    After forcing the queen’s trade and Hikaru basically resigned, Artemiev in an act of chivalry offered a draw and put both kings on e4 and e5! He knew that Hikaru was fighting for the top spots. However, Hikaru very politely declined the offer, as he knew that objectively speaking with two pawns down he was lost against a player of the class of Artemiev. He said: « No it’s fine you won the game ». That is also very classy on Hikaru’s part. Many other GMs would have accepted the draw.
    Congrats to both player for their excellent spirit.

    What did Artemiev console Hikaru about? Is it because of Hikaru's loss or something else

      @hamletfisherman5740 Před rokem +13

      Yeah, some high rated players are salty sometimes about losing. Hikaru looked a bit salty, the way he resigned, and Artemiev tried to defuse the tension. It seemed to work as Hikaru shook his hand respectfully after that.

      @@hamletfisherman5740 Nah. Artemiev thought Naka was apologising for knocking the pieces over and pressing the clock anyway - you're not supposed to do that. Needless to say, Naka wasn't, just bitching about losing.

      @@hamletfisherman5740 if you watch hikaru closely, you'll see that he makes apologetic gestures after knocking his pieces over. I'm sure he was salty about the loss, but I'm pretty sure that's what Artemiev was referring to.

    Obviously its easier to see these things when im not staring down a time clock, but it appears as if Hikaru makes a terrible miss at 10:09 by not taking the opposing queen with his castle but instead moving his King. Im no chess expert so can anyone tell me if this was the right move?

    • @TristanWeijermars
      @TristanWeijermars Před rokem +1

      The rook (castle) was pinned by the rook on e8. Taking the queen would have put himself in check, so that would have been illegal.

      Last move was queen trade, leaving rooks behind but artemiev had a lot of pawns especially he had them on both side. He was gonna win after a few moves. so nakamura forfeit.

    Mr. Nakamura is emotional. He wanted to finish this quickly and swiftly. He was too sure to win. Nakurama played too fast to passionately. To play chess with reckless abandonment.
