    243 PW is 2 degrees stronger in loft at 44 degrees. The 223 has a more traditional PW loft of 46 degrees, that would explain a portion of the distance/spin gap. But the 243 and 223 have the same lofts in 7 iron and 5 iron so that would just be the new "tech".

    • @talonclark1236
      @talonclark1236 Před 4 měsíci +4

      Exactly this. So I bent my PW to 44 and 9i to 40 and it fixed the gapping problems that mizuno has with the low irons.

    Excellent Video. Always enjoy watching your content. Today I had an iron fitting. I primarily hit the Mizuno 243, Titleist T100/150's, and Srixon zx7s. The 243's were by far the best. They felt amazing and the dispersion was tight. The Srixon zx7's were a close second, but the thinner top-line aesthetic and the feel of the 243's were fantastic: buttery soft. The t150's were also great, however, they felt and sounded 'Clicky' in comparison with the 243's. I only have one concern and it's related to fitting. I'm 6'2" with a wrist to floor measurement of 37" (with shoes on). Mizuno irons standard lie angle is flatter by a couple degrees than the other manufactures. Therefore, I'm concerned that even if I get them 2 degrees upright they will still be too flat. Other than the lie angle concern, I'm sold. In the fitting I was hitting the Stiff flex $ taper shaft in only 1/4" longer with the club head 2 degrees upright. to my surprise, I was still hitting baby draws. I need to do one more fitting before I pull the trigger on ordering the 243's to decide the proper shaft length and address my lie angle concerns. Cheers!

    I’m gaming the new 245s and absolutely loving it. See my scores come down and have placed in 2 competitions. They are very forgiving of a thinned shot.
    You don’t really need to blend the set as the set is already a blend of blades and hollow body.
    The 5 iron is my new favorite club.

    • @elitethacker
      @elitethacker Před 4 měsíci +2

      I can confirm that the 245's are amazing! I have higher swing speeds and good enough ball striking to be able to play the 241's, but I find that having a club as forgiving and "care free" as the 245 makes playing the game of golf much more enjoyable. I think the 245's are the best "all-around" irons on the market right now with their ability to combine performance, looks, forgiveness, availablity, and fitting options.

    • @jayfangRSA
      @jayfangRSA Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks for info. as I'm making swing change from way too steep, I'm now hitting plenty thin. Better than fat, but my old cavity back Mizuno JPX 800 Pro irons are quite punishing of that miss.

    • @myopenmind527
      @myopenmind527 Před 3 měsíci

      @@jayfangRSA my Mizuno journey started with the JPX850. Moved on to the JPX TOURS.
      I’m trying to hit more down on the ball but during a round and during fitting the 945 we’re very forgiving of a thinned shot which is my miss. Must be the extra tungsten.
      Would recommend them and they go further. A win win for me.
      Best of luck. Give them a try. I’d say you’ll be very satisfied with the performance.

    Great vid as usual boys. I have a suggestion when it comes to iron testing, and these new Mizzy's are a great example.
    When testing different irons, I think you should test all 3 of the same clubs together. By that I mean test the PW of the 241's, 243's and 245's back to back. Then test all the 7 irons back to back, then the 4 irons, etc...
    I think this would be better for direct comparisons. When you go from the 241 4 iron to the 243 PW, you have to remember what the 241 PW felt like 3 clubs and 20 swings ago.
    It would be more like a driver vs driver comparison, and you get direct back to back feedback between clubs
    Just a thought, keep it up boys! 🙌🏼

    I recently swapped from a set of T100’s to a full set of 221’s. When i played the T100 I honestly thought i was striking the ball well. After I switched to the 221, I couldn’t hit the face for the life of me. I changed the shafts and the grips thinking it was a swing weight issue. Turns out it was just shit swing. I got a lesson and spent the next 2 months grinding on the range with the 221’s.
    Now i know what it feels like to flush the ball and I don’t think i would have progressed to where im at now, had i kept playing the T100’s. Just my opinion but i think a lot of golfers would benefit from at least practicing with a blade so they know what a flusher should feel like. No band aids

    I’ve dabbled with Mizuno irons the last few years. Played a short stint with the 225 and eventually moved into the JPX923 HMP. Great iron but didn’t have that same level of refinement and too hot for what I needed.
    I’m now in the 245 and I have to say Mizuno absolutely nailed this iron. Plenty of forgiveness with amazing looks and performance. I would almost slot this iron in between a Titleist T200 and T150 in terms of performance with better looks and feel.

    Got the 243s back in Feb playing off 9. Unreal feeling club and very forgiving. I just need to learn to compress my longer irons more to get the distance. Hot Metal Pros just gave you distance. These need you to compress properly on the 5 and 6.
    What a club though!

    243 is the best golf club this side of a blade. Thin top line, forgiving sole, big sweet spot, impeccable sound and feel, clean design and very precise details. I'm anywhere between 9.8 and 14 because of an injury and have no fear looking down at this beauty. I play Steelfiber i95s, ball flight is high and easy with a Pro V1.

    Nice recap video. I had the same experience as Ian with the 223's - though I play with significantly slower swing speed. I found that the low irons/wedges could not keep up with the mid and long irons. I even tried bending the lofts stronger to compensate but not happy with the results. I replaced the PW and 9 iron with the 243's and have been very happy so far.

    Just got fitted for the 245 and should arrive in a few week. I was very impressed. I started my golf journey about a year in my 37 yrs old. Made the mistake of buying a complete set from Callaway (XR series) with graphite shafts. I definitively learned. But the C7 swing weight and the reg flex, is not helping. I hit my current 7 iron about 145-150 yrds, and in the fitting I smoked the 245 7 iron to 168 yrds with no effort. Looking forward to lower my HCP from 31 to closest to 18 I can! Thanks for the content, love to watch Mr. Frys tunneling the ball all the time and Mike fancy way of describing all you share! Would be very nice to play some golf with you all!🏌️‍♂️

    Can’t discount that the PW for the 243s is 2 degrees stronger than the 223s. I think the lofts across the board are stronger for the 243s. That should account for the majority of the speed gain.

    I got an odd combo set of 241 in PW-7 and 245 in 7-5. Yep, that's two 7 irons! But the gapping works out. The 241s did surprise me with their distance - about 5-7 yards longer than other blades I've played at the same lofts. They still spin plenty, but it doesn't surprise me to see that you guys found the spin rates down a bit with 241. They just go!

    The 223 and 243 performed identical for me. My distance gaps were consistent with the 223 and the Modus 115 shaft. I did hit the 243 since it is the latest version but there wasn’t anything between them to buy the new version. I ended up saving $500 going with a new set of 223 with my local shop running a sale and the irons being marked down as it is. The 223s were designed as a combo set for people who wanted to play that style but were losing speed. So for fast speed players yes the 46 PW doesn’t keep up with the 32 7i. But for people like me losing speed they gap fine.
    For fast swingers then yes some may experience too big a gap between 7i and PW. With the 243s you’re just getting a 2 degree stronger PW at 44 so it’s going to be longer.

I live in Thailand and they will not combo a set here (except Titleist) or I would have picked up Srixon 7 and 5 combo set. You can custom order Titleist so next set will be T150 -T200 split set. I get his comments but I don’t he’s a better ball striker then I am and I’m very similar hit smaller soles and spin blades in a better window. Went to z forged ii and my strokes gained approach improved vastly. I would love to see Ian do a video on course comparing a blade to a non blade and compare strokes gained over like 5 rounds. @@ArmyGolfBC I have owned both and there's very little difference. The feel of the 245s is slightly duller (not really "softer" just a touch quieter, really) but I didn't seen any distance difference on the course. The 225s are fantastic irons, and the 245s are just a small evolution. 👍

    Stop making such a big deal about blades. If you like hitting them and they feel nice , just play them. Most people surprise themselves by how well the can hit blades because they buy into the fear mongering.

      @@stuboy13 absolutely agree, thick soles are terrible for me, had a set of jpx 900s several yrs ago and currently playing better w/243s. Had other game improvement type irons too, HMBs, Rogue STs, but as long as you have the speed to elevate the ball play what you like. Better to miss short than long anyways!

      It’s funny how much hate they get, are they unforgiving yes but so are all golf clubs…. If you’re missing the grooves or chunking 5 inches behind the ball no iron is going to be forgiving enough. What it really comes down to is swing speed and turf interaction. I’m average on a good day and I play considerably better with slimmer irons than big chunky ones.

      @@TRIKushbeachsidegolfers with +110mph swing speeds and near perfect turf interaction shouldn't be playing blades if they aren't great ball strikers. Inconsistent ego swinging. Nothing to do with swing speed or turf interaction.

    Can you share more details on what you experienced with gapping issues in the higher lofted irons in the Pro 223? My swing speed is about 10 mph slower than yours and I'm curious if you can quantify the distance gap problem you had between the PW, 9, 8, 7 irons. I've heard rumblings about this problem but can't find anything quantitative that helps me understand how big of a problem this could be for me. Pro 223 sets are pretty attractive on the used market these days.

    • @CheezMaster333
      @CheezMaster333 Před 4 měsíci

      Ian mentioned 223 PW going 130, and 7i 180 for him - which would leave over 15 yards per club gapping.
      I’m a bit slower than Ian and game 223’s bent 1* strong - I’d say I see the biggest gap PW>9i, being 128>144 roughly for me. Then 156 8i, and 168 7i.
      I clear 130 easily with the new 243 PW, although I still prefer my 223’s from 8i and longer

      @@CheezMaster333 Thanks for the additional detail. My swing speed is slower than yours so those distance gaps get even smaller for me. I think the 5 degree gaps should be fine for me, and perhaps ideal, in the higher lofted irons. I can de-loft and add some oomph to get my 8 iron 150 but it's really and easy 135 or 140 yard club for me. 115 PW and 125 9 iron fit in just fine. I don't think I want my gap wedge to be any stronger than 50 degrees since I play only a single specialty wedge at 56 degrees. Seems like the gapping problem that Ian found for him isn't going to be an issue for me.

    My ideal lie angle is 64.25 upright, Mizuno start at 61.5. I've heard Chris (Mizuno) say they can be special ordered at 2 degrees upright and then bent a further 2 from there. I emailed Mizuno Europe Customer service and they just copy pasted the web site back to me saying a max of 2 degrees up to 63.5. Do/can you guys (CC) bend them further.
