The sabersmith has nothing to do with changing the lore, but adapting to the times they live in. Jedi are being hunted, they don't live in peace like they use to where they can train for a decade then go out freely and find their crystal. During this period for the jedi they either have to go into hiding or get their hands on a lightsaber as soon as possible. So having a sabersmith is perfect for the times they live in.

      @jinxie712 Před 2 lety

I think there might have been a sabersmith in the movies, also. In Ep2, a Jedi tosses Obi Wan and Anakin extra lightsabers in the arena battle (also, why did he randomly have extra lightsabers?). So it’s not like if they lose their lightsaber they have to wait to go make another. They probably have to go and make another personal one though.

This is honestly one of the best episodes in all of Star Wars TV PERIOD!
I absolutely loved the look of the colorless lightsaber. And I loved how they took the meaning of the colors back to what they meant back in the old Knights of the Old Republic, how the colors represent the personality of that person.

In regards to Ethan being completely useless during combat, you have to remember that Ethan stated it was his first time ever seeing/holding a lightsaber (as they were already lost from the Galaxy by the time he was born). While he may have been trained in the ways of the force, that doesn't neccessary make you proficient at wielding a lightsaber right away. I forgot where in the lore, but remember someone (I think Star Wars Theory) mentioning that not just anyone can wield a lightsaber. For someone who isn't connected to the force/someone who never had saber practice or training, wielding a saber would be akin to holding a heavy bar with the weight constantly shifting throughout it.
His saber was blue probably because that's the colour of the crystal from the previous owner. The overall appearance of the hilt would suggest it was from a different time, compared to the ones Kara's father forged, which had tempered crystals that would adapt to the user's connection.
The way I interpreted Ethan not jumping in and helping as much (until the end or unless Kara was being completely overpowered by the Sith acolytes), was the fact that was the first time he had to use a saber, and seen that many Sith (boy was likely shitting his pants).
Ethan was also probably aware of his lack of skills, and trying to jump in or randomly start swinging would have gotten himself or Kara killed.

I believe the intention of this episode’s creator is that It’s the alignment towards either the light or dark side that changes the color of the lightsaber. Kara’s color wasn’t clear because her alignment wasn’t set yet before, until she whole heartedly chose a side during the final fight. Same for the Sith that changed back from red to purple because his alignment is shifting slightly back towards the light side.

That was the case in Legends. Disney changed it in canon to where your lightsaber color reflects how good/evil you are, with a strong connection to the lights ide making your lightsaber green, then the less good you are it turns blue, then purple, and if the crystal is exposed to too much dark side energy it permanently "bleeds" red and can only be "healed" to a white color. Yeah it's stupid, like most things in Disney Star Wars, but that's the current canon we got.

The color changing is a part of starwars lore (but it is very complicated).
Red is a sign of the dark side
Green is a sign that the user focuses on the spiritual aspect of the force.
Blue is a sign that the user focuses on the combat aspect of the force.
Purple is a sign that the user is in between the light side and the dark.
I think yellow lightsabers are for those that seek and spread, knowledge and wisdom.
Orange lightsabers are for people who have money (IE DLC content. This is a bit of a joke.)
White lightsabers are for lightside users who are not jedi (Can also be described as independent lightside users).
Color-less lightsabers are for those who have not settled.

I had your same reaction about Ethan (and still do to an extent). The story made it clear enough that Kara had grown as a fighter from her father's teachings(?) and the escape, whereas Ethan was a novice who finally got to hold a lightsaber for the first time. I think the duel should have been like this, with Kara being very alert and wary and Ethan confused and barely managed to hold his own.
Where I have issue comes from the storytelling. Ethan was the first one to be introduced and served as a guide to the audience, connecting many of the story plot points. Yet as soon as the twist happens, he has no relevant lines and his character is motionless in many scenes, pushed into a side character because his main role was to help set up the twist. But we as the audience are still focused on Ethan and notice his lack of scenes because the change in camera angles turn to the POV of the acolytes is very sudden (although understandable since they're all going to die with little screentime). He should have have at least one cut from his POV (like reversing the POV against Homen) where he's prompts an acolyte to explain themselves, to reflect how we as the audience are shocked as well, and is overwhelmed at their strength.

If Im not mistaken some saber colors have meaning like the most commons.
Blue means you are more focused on lightsaber combat, green means you are more focused on training and strengthening the force, yellow is balance of both the force and lightsaber combat and purple is having a connection with both the light and the dark side.
To get red you must use the dark side of the force to make a kyber crystal bleed, orange is a rare kyber crystal found in a planet I dont remember, black is a unique kyber crystal of the darksaber and to get white you must purify a red kyber crystal that had went through the process of bleeding.
I probably got something wrong but tis is what I remember from what I saw in Star Wars.

I think that the Jedi historically sought out the crystals, and in the tradition, they were chosen by the crystals from the qualities of their heart and become one. These crystals probably work on the same principle, reflecting their users. The stronger the connection, the brighter and more true they resonate with the one that wields it. I am sort of half-baking this idea, but I am sure someone can figure out how the two overlap in a more fundamentally true way.

    • @voctur
      @voctur Před 2 lety

Yep, the crystal choose the user, and they get their definitive color based on that person's personality. And the lenght of a lightsaber could be manually ajusted to fit the wielder's needs.
The sabersmith instead modified the crystal by tempering them, so now they automatically adapt to whoever wields it, automatically getting a color based on the person's personality and alignment, but also automatically ajusting the length of the blade

Whilst the lightsabers changing colour isn't in the existing lore (although I think it was an early concept when writing Episode 4 although limited to Blue = Good; Red = Bad) the idea of a Saber-Smith isn't. In the old canon a specialist called Jedi Artisans exists who used the force to draw on inspiration for crafting although this could be, say, a sculptor most of them went into lightsaber crafting.

Sith have red sabers because they corrupt their crystals. There is not naturally red colored kyber crystal.

The price of not watching it in english is to ask questions that were already answered a few moments before... watch it in a language you understand if watching and reading is too hard, seriously.

This episode is a reference to old concepts from the OG trilogy where George Lucas wanted the lightsabers to change color depending on who was holding it. That concept was later scrapped.
Now, lightsabers Kyber crystal colors are unique to the user and does change. Padawans/Younglings get their first lightsaber before or right after they are assigned a master. A light side user's kyber crystal can be pretty natural be any color, but white or red, just don't see it in the movies . Red comes from "bleeding" a kyber crystal, pouring dark side energy into it, this a Sith's final step to become a sith. White is the opposite a light side user purifying a sith kyber crystal, Ahsoka's lightsabers are purified sith crystal I believe. All color used to have meanings, but was scrapped as well.

@@gabrielp9646 No, not always. Old canon (Legends) lightsaber colors were all over the place for multiple reasons. When crystals were used the color was just a naturally occurring property or in the case of the Sith, because they were synthetic. But then other materials besides crystals could be used to produce a blade, which could have an influence on the color and lastly, lenses, filters, construction materials, etc. could be used to change the color of the blade regardless of what's used to create it. In the now existing canon, only kyber crystals are used and they start out clear. For the light side, color is influenced by the personality of the crystal's chosen user when they bond with it through the Force upon the user finding it and the color then becomes permanent.*
Blades changing hue the moment a lightsaber changes hands is confined to this story only.
*In the case of a Sith/dark side acolyte, they take an already bonded crystal and use the dark side to dominate it into bonding with them. A process called "bleeding" the crystal because it's what causes the crystal to become red. The only known instance of rebonding a crystal not through bleeding is Ahsoka purifying two red crystals, making them clear again and thus producing white blades.

@@gabrielp9646 I'm not trying to pick a fight, but you literally contradicted yourself with your first sentence after you quoted yourself. I'm just guessing but I think you meant to include the word "concept" in your original statement that you yourself quoted. Regardless, my comment was a direct response to what you actually stated, not what looks like you meant to state. That being said, I get what you are saying about the concept of it being around since the beginning, but as a part of established canon, as I said, that's not true.

11:40 no he wasnt. he is a sith but from what ppl speculate its one of those he joined the sith order because he was told the sith is in the right and how to govern/maintain the galaxy. eveything the sith do is for the sake of "peace" and for a better future. homen saber color changed when he saw kara saber changed from clear to green so something changed on what he saw and compare it to what the sith do.
kidna like dnd alignment sides for say lawful. you got lawful good, neutral and evil. lawful good would be you a hardcore paladin. every action and view is for sake of peace and help others with nothing in return and your fine with that. lawful evil is you will help ppl out in a problem they have BUT you want to squeeze something in return or benefit you. if they cant give it then basically you tell them to @#!# off and die.
or easier on that is DC lex luthor is mostly lawful evil. the joker is chaotic evil. in marvel lawful evil can relate closer to say agent venom. a anti-hero with early on he works for the american government. go on missions to take out high profile threats and this includes anyone tied to them like family members if they didnt know or didnt take action in it. or back to dc amanda waller for suicide squad can be sorta viewed as lawful evil.
