Lack of focus is totally my problem, literally everything takes away my attention, they should really make an engine that plays Subway Surfers and Family Guy funny clips on the side

I started a 3D game 3 years ago and realised after 2 years it probably would take another 2 years to finish it.
Im now going 2D and making something achievable but still challenging. I can just give the advice to don't think your a game dev superhero... I learned alot on the way but I really regret not started with 2D from the beginning. Its just wayyy more simple if you are solo.
For example my 2D Pixel Art + Animation per Character at most takes 3-4 days. On my 3D project it took around 1-2 Weeks...
Also you need to realise that 90% of the sales from indie games are 2D, from 16x16 to 128x128 everything is still something gamers love. Don't think you need a new GTA to get your game sold.

Great video, i have failed projects to:
    - too big of a scope, i tried to make Terraria while being quite new to programming back then
    - lack of focus and passion, but life sometimes gets in the way and we have to accept it
    - simplifying the game too much to the point I didnt enjoy playing it, and that made the development much harder and resulted in a burnout
I'm still dealing with the last, but now my goal is to just finish the project. It doesn't need a lot of content, i just want someone to be able to open it, play 5 minutes and go look for new entertainment.

My advice: instead of aiming at a bigger project, make multiple VERY small projects and build upon your experience and code. Also: TAKE SHORTCUTS. If there is an asset that does what you want, just use it; dont try to re-invent the wheel.
For an example: I want to make a VR FPS game and got stuck multiple times, because I wanted to make too much. What I ended up doing is just trying to make something really simple: a working gun and shooting gallery. Thats it. Then a bit more, maybe a gun course. Then maybe one with moving enemies. etc.
What I want to say is: dont just split up your idea into smaller pieces you tackle individually in a single project. Tackle those ideas in multiple projects. You are much more likely to polish these ideas that way, because you feel like you have less work ahead of you. And when you did that with all the ideas you had for your bigger project, just combine these already polished ideas and see what fits into it.

I feel this also apply to art as well, i often get side tracked when drawing n often times i draw simplistic things really cuz i have a goofy mind, n i also like to make everything i draw almost too perfect

The strange irony I've learned is that you make better games when you're not worried about time and money.
Then once you come to terms with this you find yourself spending more time doing what you love and making games that people will actually pay for.

@@revimfadli4666 similar to what I did in my "if you can't make games..." video? Used them sparingly for important takeaways and sometimes used the "one by one" thing you mentioned.

for me gamedev is engaging but the marketing is not... unfortunately unlike being a highschooler you actually require validation from others in the form of wishlists or you are going to fail financially. stressing over click through rates and wishlist metrics is making me stressed and every social media submission feels like a gauntlet of emotions with most of them flopping hard if you fail to consider enough factors (visuals, audience, medium, approach, etc) and failure is more likely than not simply because you start out with 0 people knowing about you or your game at all and there is no way you can count on going viral as a strategy
you can always buy ads later on to promote your game but the return may even be negative depending on the same factors mentioned above. marketing is way too hard. i thought i had an interesting product (a survival citybuilder) but my results from trying to market the game has been incredibly disappointing. no doubt the fault is mine own failure in executions but alas, comparison is the thief of joy.

Aye brother, all I can say is, everything has it's painful parts... I happen to enjoy making CZcams videos and I like to learn about retention and all that. Most times I fail...hard...
But through practice and studying I believe my brain can pick up the patterns and become good at this. Going viral is not 100% luck, persistence is key no matter the field.
All that to say: don't give up, it will work for you eventually.
In the mean time, try to find things you enjoy about the process of marketing! There's always something you like!
