  • In this community directed documentary, land concessions in Suriname's interior threaten Indigenous and Maroon people as their land and water are taken and destroyed for economic development--including toxic cyanide and mercury from gold mining. This development benefits outsiders and threatens the people who have lived there for centuries. Note, while our previous films are similar in content, this documentary also includes Maroon stories as well as additional information on the gold mining process.

It pains me to see such a beautiful country being destroyed. I am from the netherlands and I know all to well that my countryman have not been good for Suriname.
I hope in all my heart Suriname will thrive one day while maintaining a fair goverment for its own people and that of the land. So much beauty. I hope one day I can come and see it for myself
Best regards and take care !
Een hele goede jaarwisseling gewenst en hopen dat 2021 heel wat beters gaat brengen voor ons allemaal dan 2020.

i live in suriname , born and raised. i learned a lot from this video and it's crazy to think that the people running this country offered up so much of our country's land , resources and even the well being and livelihood of some of our people for money and "economic development" and yet our country has been in progressively increasing debt for more than a decade and still continuously suffering from poor economic and governmental choices , just to name a few. as a taxpaying citizen i openly call out that a large portion if not all the people with power in this country are corrupt , money hungry degenerates that only look out for themselves and constantly play our people for fools by promising better futures but delivering only increasing misery.

Yes I agree, I'm American and just finish watching this, This video shows that lack of concern for human life, These people aren't asking for nothing more then to have and keep what is already theirs, they are being treated like they are nothing, this is so very wrong, and all for what, the all mighty dollar that they aren't even benefitting from, they just want to be treated with respect and with dignity and they can't even get that...so sad and yes I am starting to see why the amount of hate.

This is a very unique version of Dutch. Harder to Understand for an English Speaker more so than traditional Dutch or Afrikaans. I know German more than Dutch, but you can still make out many of the words in this dialect when the subtitles are shown. I love how close English is to Dutch in many ways.

The government don't care about the life in the countryside, They have to do something about it and the president also (D.C Bouterse) Do You know how many peoples are dying in the countryside because of health Problems, bad circumstances etc. Although i'm not Surinamese I have a lot of families there and I will visit them very soon

You people have a right to fight against what is happening to your families. Be sure to keep a copy of all documents don't forget to include the names of your entire family members who are involved, get the documents signed by your government and health officials if you can. Dev elope laws that will protect your land this will have to be done by all indigenous people who live on the land always keep a copy of documents. You might have to relocate to save your health so you can fight them.

Only a few people out of the millions in the world have seen this and have commented on it. No wonder that the indigenous people feel that they are alone and have no voice or hope. If we cannot take charge now and change the situation what will happen to the next generation of indigenous people. Will there be a next generation. Will they have anything left of their history.Or will the pollution caused by all this be the end of their way of life? When did humanity DIE ?

Get a printer and print your rights right out and demand the government to sign it, including ownership of your land and homes.Make legislative initiative to organize a county civil obedience laws and issue an ultimatum to register your lands by voting.
Also, find a way to have a water purification plant installed by the mining industries! In the meantime grow crops eat more vegetables and make staple food from the land!
