  • 🍜 Trying 5 Unique Chinese Foods for the First Time! 🍚
    I love learning about my boyfriend's culture and trying food he grew up eating. Although I'm someone who isn't typically adventurous with food, I'm glad I pushed my limits for this one became I found a new all-time favourite among them! hehe
    Anyway, I hope you enjoy this video and if you want to see more, drop your suggestions in the comments - what should I try next ?

    Glad to see an Arab-Asian couple doing well. Arab culture is great and as an Asian American, I eat Arab cuisine any chance I can get, it's healthy and delicious. Just had baba ganoush and dolma with grape leaves today, eating middle eastern cuisine is a refreshing feeling

    You don't usually just eat preserved (or century) eggs alone like that because the taste and smell alone can be very overpowering. Eat them with congee.

      This! ive never seen anyone eat it by itself

    • @justgado2772
      @justgado2772 Před 9 měsíci +1

      I do that actually with soy sauce and vinegar or with marinated jellyfish. But I can eat it directly sometimes. But you are right, for first timer, it’s better to eat that with congee

    • @redrooster626
      @redrooster626 Před 9 měsíci +1

      That's true, most folks don't eat duck eggs alone, it's usually served with congee among Southern Chinese, or Taiwanese folks will serve them with tofu. I have eaten them alone myself but that's because I grew up eating them and am more used to the flavor.

    A lot of the Chinese preserved food was created by families that didn’t have much money and they liked to create something with a strong taste and you could mix a little bit of it with things like rice or congee so it could last for many meals. I’ve never eaten the preserved egg by itself but I just really love it with congee ever since I was a kid.

    Durian... You and your bf should come to Penang, Malaysia and try the real durian. Musang King, D24, XO, Black Thorn, Red Prawn, etc. Besides durian, you can try nasi kandar, laksa, wan tan mee, curry mee, char Koay teow, duck noodles, loh bak, lor mee, mee goreng, chapati, roti canai and many more. We are known as Food Paradise of the east for a reason. 😉👍

    Raw ingredients are not foods. The bamboo shots should be cooked first. Moreover you're not supposed to eat the century-old egg like that. Cut it into dices and mix them with rice soup. It's like toppings to oatmeal. Or you can cut it into slices and spread sesame oil on the top.

    Durian is not a Chinese Food. It is a recent trend that the Chinese in China are buying it up. It has been natively from Indonesia/Malaysia/Singapore region, and has been for centuries.

    A few notes!
    1. I think every cantonese person died a little on the inside when you rated chicken feet only 4/10 lol
    2. The century egg (pi dan) is actually not cooked by default. The chemical process used to preserve it causes the egg to gel up, which "cooks" the egg
    3. Bamboo shoots are usually eaten stir fried, as a salad, or preserved. They're not usually eaten raw in that manner
    4. Glad you enjoyed the stinky tofu! The one you had is packaged and isn't as stinky as the ones they typically sell at street vendors. How stinky tofu is cooked varies by region and some can get very, very foul
    5. Glad you liked the durian too! What Edward said about Chinese people loving durian and it being expensive is very true. In China during the summer durian is literally everywhere. Durian flavored desserts are especially popular. In singapore, a lot of hotels ban you from bringing in durian because the smell would linger in the rooms
    Overall, I'm super glad you were open minded and gave honest, unbiased feedback on the food! We need more people like you
