But your family name will easily determine your origin/native.
As an Arab i never expected that to come, what an accent! If he spoke to me with Arabic and told me that he is an Indian i would not believe him. Once he spoke arabic i felt like he is one of us , one of the bros , language can make mircles in uniting people.

We have Egyptian doctors in hospitals and we deal with them. They are good people, and we understand them and are used to their dialect.

As a person who speaks Arabic fluently, its by far the most difficult to learn and i understand why , yet all the foreigners get along with Arabs despite this barrier, if one can learn the language it opens up so many doors and people of that country really becomes much closer to you
As an arab I can say : they didn’t get shocked cuz he speaks arabic , cuz alot of Indian people here in gulf area speaks arabic , but broken arabic , and it’s hard to understand, but he got the perfect language and accent as well .

If you have contact with locals, its much easier . I can read arabic. Learnt only 1 year in school. Was in kuwait 6 years. But contact with arabs was very less. Just the tv and shop fellows. lived in Bengaluru 6 years and i speak kannada ..learnt by talking with locals.

For those who dont know what makes arabic so hard is that every arab country has their own arabic dialect and these dialects are VERY different to each other and if a arab from morocco met another arab from qatar they wont be able to understand each other.
They are not very different, and we do understand each other. Moroccan-Algerian dialects were previously deemed hard because they were heavily influenced by french, but nowadays most people in both countries are stopping to use french words and are cleansing their dialects of them, and even gradually removing french itself from documents and media. Besides the fact that previously the connection between western Arabs and eastern Arabs was cut due to the colonial era, but nowadays the communication is well open and available, and Arabs hear different dialects on the shared internet and shared media every single day. But for a foreigner who is learning Arabic, yes it would be hard for them to comprehend dialects, but that's simply because they aren't familiar with Arabic, while native Arabs or the none Arabs who love in Arab countries and speak Arabic as the mother tongue, comprehending dialects is easy, only hard when foreign words are used by any specific population while speaking their local dialect with other Arabs.
