    Here are some basics. #1. When hooking up, line your truck tires with the trailer tires and youll be spot on. 2. When backing under as soon as the front of the trailer is just past the trucks 1st drive axles stop get out and look. "Youll never have to raise that fifth wheel again". I got 17yrs out here if anyone has questions feel free to ask i love helping those that want to learn.

    Nobody was born a super trucker. That’s why it pisses me off to see drivers making fun of drivers driving for training companies like swift instead of maybe doing some teaching and advise giving. Rather than heckling them on the CB! Everyone was new once and nobody was ever instantly a great trucker. I also feel that those who think they’re super truckers tend to be the shittiest drivers on the road because they’ve become so complacent thinking their shit no longer stinks!

    When ur dropping a trailer..lower ur landing gear at least 2 inches from the ground..then lower ur air bags..then pull out...EVERYONE NEEDS TO DO THIS..

    It’s funny watching these videos that u post😅😅😅 I’ve been trucking since May 1998 and although haven’t had too many costly mistakes it would’ve been nice to be able to listen to some of this!!
    Here’s a tip for U when your at the dock live loading once finish if you set the tandems under the last pallet in your trailer you won’t have a weight issue!! An ole trucker taught me that n I’ve used it ever since never had a problem with weight!! Godspeed and have a blessed one🤟🏾🤟🏾

    Mistake #1 made that mistake more than 5 times lol. I manually pushed 5th wheel down with broom or stick while dumping airbags. Then pulled out. I avoid this by never backing all the way without getting out first and lowering trailer if need be.
    Mistake #2 never made this mistake, can be deadly and I prey nobody does this.
    Mistake #3 mines are broke off. I fd them up with issue #1 and most of my company trucks already be missing them.
    Mistake #4 I learned not to do this while with my trainer.
    Mistake #5 naver made this mistake but this is a must i check mine 3 times when adjusting tandems, yet I rarely scale loads and I've never been over weight.
    Thanks for pointing all these out. Trucking schools don't go over this you helped many new drivers.

  • @mcholas
    @mcholas Před 3 lety +19

    Awesome trucking tips, loved it. I want to add to your 1st tip regarding 5th wheel missing the kingpin. You can release the air from drive tires airbag which will cause the back of your tractor to be lowered towards the ground and the kingpin should be high up enough where the 5th wheel would clear it. I saw a driver had that issue at a shipper. He level the 5th wheel but still could not clear the kingpin. He started to crank the trailer landing gear up which would take some time to raised up. I told him, just lower the back of your tractor by releasing the air from airbags and that quickly solved his issue.

    Good Video Neisha.. as a trucker and driving just as long as you have.. We are still newbies to the game as well... I made just as many mistakes as you listed...
    it a good idea when backing under a trailer to KNOW how much space you have between your tires and trailer..
    These tractors are not 4 wheelers.. You will get stuck in mud...snow.. Ice.. 👍..tandums your right they don't teach much in training schools.. that's something you will learn on the road. or with your trainer on the road..Keep them coming Neisha..

  • @yoshiy.7901
    @yoshiy.7901 Před 3 lety +7

    For the king pin you can dump the air bags and drive out. Adjusting your weight I like to count the holes depending on how heavy I am. I know with my trailer 45,000lb I need hole 6 etc.

    If your trailer to high and you get stuck just drop you airbags and get out the truck straight the filth wheel it’s that easy

  • @garenvaughn3087
    @garenvaughn3087 Před 3 lety +2

    Lol, Sis you STRAIGHT CRACK ME UP 😂, YES YES YES, you hit the nail on the head and drove it through the floor.
    Bent flaring‘s the back of your truck on each side that makes your truck more aero dynamic, PoPo 👮‍♀️ see this and they think you make mistakes and want to pull you over to pin a revenue making ticket on you. City counties and states make money off of tickets on trucks. Trucks are a cash cow 🐄, especially one’s that make mistakes. It is a dead giveaway. Avoid this at all cost.
    Fifth wheel, king pin, issue you always always always, get your tail out and look once before hooking up and two check that your fifth wheel jaws are secure around the king pin. I been driving for 30 years and I would never ever hook with out checking three times. When you couple up a tractor to a trailer you are connecting two separate vehicles into one. FYI MISS YOUR HOOK AND YOU CAN RIP OFF YOUR FIFTHS WHEEL HANDLE now you can’t detach truck from trailer unless you cut them apart.
    So why would one do such a thing and not check the connection is probably lined up and attached. REALLY REALLY WHO DOES THAT.
    If one is that lazy just imagine looking in your rear view mirror 🪞 at 65 mph and see your trailer rolling over behind you because you had a high hook. Ya Ya that thought will get ones behind out the driver seat and check the coupling is correct. A HIGH HOOK is when your ( king pin sitting on top of the fifth wheel jaws instead of the fifth wheel jaws locked around the king pin groove, the king pin has a special groove for the fifth wheel jaws to latch around ) You need a flash light to check this even in the day time and you are under the trailer shining a light on king pin groove to make sure it is connected. Do this check each and every hook to avoid this tragedy.
    This video tells me you are truly a real driver. O and Def fluid we put it in our new Amtrak locomotives called Chargers, by the way they regin, they run up to a screaming pitch thus the name chargers. Yes trains run on DEF too the new ones that is. But Def fluid will Crystallize when exposure to air. It turns to a white salt looking residue. I can’t imagine salt like product in a diesel fuel system with diesel a oil based product. Unbelievable what damage would it do. Salt in your fuel system, OMG Nightmare scenario.
    Only drivers can speak on such topics. So proud of you Sis. God Bless you in your travels.

    Mistake #1 happen to me plenty of times 😂. Level out usually works and maybe raise the trailer some and suspension dump if you have it on your truck. Mistake #2 has never happened hope if never does. Mistake #3 has never happened always wondered how that happened but you right jack knife is correct. Mistake #4 Soft ground could not say if I have it not but I know for sure I usually make sure it's not way to soften to when I get stuck but will make sure not to do that. Mistake #5 I have always set my tandems so not overweight. Very informative video. Once again and always you are very beautiful and gorgeous 🌹

    sometimes you can lower your airbags and pull from under the trailer if it still didn't clear keep your airbags lowered and raise your trailer enough so the kingpin will miss the fifth wheel this will also work if the trailer is too low if the trailer is sitting on your tractor tires raise the trailer enough to clear your tires while your airbags are lowered then back under the trailer enough so that the noise of the trailer is just covering the fifth wheel then raise your airbags it will raise the trailer landing gears off the ground then you can back under the trailer

    Forgetting to lock tandems is a serious safety to everyone cause I’ve seen tandems breakaway from trailers and completely destroying vehicles in its path resulting in a shutdown interstate etc... however, pertaining to bridge law.. I think Florida is the only state that allows you to go up to 44k pounds on the tandems

    Amazing video. You are like a super star in a grande hotel with servants to peel you a grape, very often truckers are covered in grease but you look like you're on vacation in Malabu 🌴
    Another rookie tip: From a rookie to rookies. If, after leaving CDL school you got to a company who don't bother with some of the checks or procedures you have learned at CDL school, then change companies and go with a firm who practice the checks and procedures.
    Rather than get mentored in a negligent way where they leave out or don't use your learned checks and procedures.
    For example: Just say you learned to unhook by Applying the Trailer Brake, cranking your gear down, disconnecting the airlines, undoing the safety clip and releasing the King Pin. Now, if you go with a mentor who says don't bother putting the trailer brake on first then that is a change in procedure, that is deleting a check.
