    • @ZetoTarken
      @ZetoTarken Před 2 měsíci

@@kichiroumitsurugi4363 Also, Obi-Wan does several feints, just light movements to see if Vader would react because he knows the only way he wins is if Vader overreacts to something and he can punish that. He also backs off whenever Vader seems to be in a position to overwhelm him, which leads to the awkward lunging sequence because Vader is trying to push him into a corner where Vader would be able to just crush him against a wall with his raw power and the Force.
And Vader knows Obi-Wan is trying to get him to overreact and swing too powerfully, which would leave him vulnerable. While he knows Obi-Wan isn't the Jedi he used to be, he's still more than skilled enough to kill Vader if Vader messes up. So Vader is carefully trying to move him around, get him in a place where Obi-Wan can no longer escape or use his comparative quickness to his advantage. Again the chain of lunges to try and back Obi-Wan into a wall.
When we see Vader fighting Luke on Bespin, it's mostly powerful but awkward swings that he can get away with because Luke is an amateur. Luke even managed to punish Vader's usual fighting style on Cloud City, nicking his arm. Obi-Wan would have 100% punished those since they've fought multiple times and Vader knows that Obi-Wan is still skilled despite his age.
It's one of those things where yes the choreography was awkward but it also kinda makes sense.

A note to make is that the poor choreography in Sidious vs. Windu was _not_ due to poor writing, nor was the quick triple kill. They had a great deal more planned, prepped, and ready to go for that scene, and then George Lucas decided, at the last second, that Ian McDiarmid, who had never practiced any saber choreography and was way too old to be doing it realistically, had to be the one to do it instead of his stunt double.
I love Lucas, and the man has many strengths and talents that many do not give him credit for (including the dialog, which was _intentionally_ wooden for artistic preference). Making snap decisions about lightsaber fights 10 minutes before they film after all the stuntmen had spent weeks training and getting everything right was _not_ one of them.

@@ernestyunardi7454 Most of the Jedi council hadn't faced Sith or had the necessary combat experience. Going off of memory here, but I'm pretty sure this is all still correct.
Obi-wan fought and defeated a Sith as an Apprentice. Fought and killed general Grievous. Fought Count Dooku twice. Battled Savage and Ventress.
Anakin also fought and killed Count Dooku. Fought with Ventress.
Mace Windu fought Grievous, and specialized in tapping into the Dark Side of the Force for his Vaapad form.
      Yoda is Yoda.
Besides these four, most Jedi were folded by light saber wielding enemies much less force wielding enemies. The greatest feats other council members had were surviving Grievous (barely) by running away. They had neither the experience or the skill to survive such a battle between force users.
Now enter Sidious, the greatest of the Sith in his time. Its not surprising to see these council members fail miserably. Only four Jedi could have stood against Sidious and had an "even" fight. Yoda, Mace, Obi-wan, and Anakin.
Mace won. I believe Yoda would have eventually. Obi-wan would have as well. Anakin is a complete wild card, but as he keeps his emotion in check he would have as well. Yoda and Mace were the Old Guard of the Jedi while Obi-wan and Anakin would have been the leaders of the next generation. They kind of mirror each other in this way.
Why did Windu bring them along? I doubt he realized how powerful Sidious was. Mace went from we will arrest Palpatine too "he's too dangerous to be kept alive!" Mace did not realize what he was walking into.

Nope, Obi-Wan couldn't even dream to challange Sidious. Windu could challange him only on a lightsaber duel and Yoda was the only Jedi besides focused Anakin that could defeat him.
Obi-Wan would be closer to die by first blow then to beat Sidious. He couldn't even challenge Count Dooku on equal terms. And while Dooku was indeed a powerhouse, Mace's caliber fighter, he was not Palpatine.

tbh, I don't even dislike the duel between Luke and Kylo, in a movie which I generally dislike. The idea of Luke influencing the fate of a battle from across the galaxy (if we pretend he couldn't fly there in time or something) is a huge feat of power and is, conceptually, a really cool idea. Luke projecting himself onto Crait to buy time to save Leia and the Resistance when he himself can't make it is also a cool idea.

Obi Wan could have atoned for his first mistake in letting Vader live by finishing the job, obviously that can't happen, but the show didn't come up with a good reason for that. Apparently I'm not the only one who's enjoyment of these films depends greatly on the choreography. First off, much of the quality of movement is dependant upon the actual physical dexterity of the actors (or stunt doubles) themselves. As it turns out, Count Dooku played by Christopher Lee (whose sword skills can be seen in The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers) was " His whole adult life he had been a classic fencer and, like Basil Rathbone, more accomplished at it than the heroes who would defeat him onscreen." Then Ray Park (Darth Maul) was adept at WuShu and was the main choreographer for The Phantom Menace. Your number one pick is as it should be given the incredible number of hours both actors put in preparation for the duel. The main point about these lightsaber duels is that they are performance skills requiring many hours to perfect....so the quality of the choreography is a directorial choice based on his willingness to allow so much time and effort for these scenes. That is why Hong Kong action films have such a niche following...for example, Jackie Chan took three months to film the final fight scene for Drunken Master 2 (or Legend of the Drunken Master), which has a screen time of less than nine minutes. Most American films just do not have the needed lead time necessary for imaginative martial arts choreography and the practice required....however, the terrible quality of the light saber duels in the Star Wars sequel trilogy is just one of many reasons I do not enjoy any of those three films.

However George Lucas decided that Ian had to be the one to do the fight, not a stunt double because he wanted close ups on the face and Ian was old and not great at fighting. That's why him killing those 3 Jedi Masters is so slow and akward.
Later they made the excuse that he used "Force Scream" to paralyze the Jedi Masters which is why they look so dumb and slow but it's a flimsy excuse overall.

I actually like the stopping the lightsaber with the force.
The first duel in the Kenobi series was different. Obi-Wan and Vader haven't fought regularly for years, especially Kenobi. Both are rustier than a car in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. Both that duel and the duel in ANH I'd rank slightly higher just because of the context surrounding them, but they're still nowhere near the top for me. 2nd duel in the Kenobi show blows away both of the.
The glowing green sword is the Blade of Talzin, used by Mother Talzin in The Clone Wars in the duel vs Mace Windu. Yes, Star Wars nerd here. 🤣🤣
The Anakin vs Ahsoka duel was as good as you think it is. No nostalgia. It's just nice to see Hayden as Anakin going nuts with the lightsaber again, and as you said, he definitely had to hold back, because everyone else didn't have Nick Gillard training them in the lightsaber choreography we all know and love. I'd personally rank that duel higher though.
I loved the honor both Maul and Pre Vizla had, even though both characters are evil. Made the fight so much better imo. I almost forgot Maul didn't use the force at all.
I don't think the Mace Windu vs Palpatine duel was lazy.

For the record, I don't know the Disney trilogy at all, from what I'm picking from seeing him fight and what little I can assume about how the galaxy is is that they went for a full "brute force" style for him, rather consistant on the different extracts shown here, I was guessing if most people he had fought were not people with lightsaber it might've made sense he ended up being used to just overpower people with his superior weapon, yet in which case I still find it weird he didn't take the cue after the first few times.

the reason why inquisitors were given lightsabers that spun was because it gave them a advantage against jedi masters who were trained in the in 7 forms (if i remember rightly mace windu was able to use form seven) and inquisitors were ex padawan who had conflicting ideals of the jedi (like barris) and grand inquisitor (who was a jedi temple guard) who went heavily adapted into the force and weren't to huge in the lightsaber forms and the emperor and vader didn't want the inquisitors to surpass them so the spinning lightsabers became their main weapon cause it did put jedi at a disadvantage with how it can rotate the blades quickly to block attacks aswell as hit on a different angle
ALSO the grand inquisitors line that was said before he died has been said to reference when vader and palpatine trapped him in something like the skyrims soul cairn and it basically felt worse than death

10:40 I think the whole reason why Palpatine killed the other Jedi so quickly is that the Jedi haven't had to fight anyone in lightsaber combat in centuries. Palpatine had been training in genuine lightsaber training and honing his skills for like fifty years and the raw power of the dark side coming from this old man probably threw them off guard too. Also, Grevious was around, but he usually killed anyone he engaged combat with.

The duels in the sequels are so underrated. They are not as elegant as in the ot or as acrobatic as in the prequels. Instead, they actually feel real and raw. There are no jedi nor sith, so makes total sense that rookies like rey and finn would find a lightsaber kinda heavy and therefore just swing them around. Then we have kylo who was more experienced, but even so he didn't fight in an unrealistic way like the jedi of the republic (or like luke in this trilogy as well). He shows tecnique but mantains that raw style. Remember he is still young and basically didn't finish his jedi training. I really loved how they manage to differentiate these fights from the ones in the originals and prequels.

The Sequels had cool moments also. It’s was just the inconsistencies in the story line that took away from the movies. The acting, stage design, and directing were top notch. The CGI also fit in well.
But, the years that past between Episodes 6 & 7 were barely accounted for. I thought Ben and Ray’s character’s were going to be members of Luke’s Jedi order and we would follow their stories as they go on missions. (Self explanatory) Luke and Lea are Jedi masters and the New Temple is in Nebu where Lea also has been helping the survivor Colony of Alderon citizens.

It wasn’t supposed to be a good choreographed fight. Obi-Wan had cut himself off from the force, out of feelings of guilt, and also just to hide himself after the purge. When he confronts, Vader here, he’s not trying to best him. He’s genuinely afraid for his life and he’s trying to flee. He’s not supposed to be a skilled master; he’s supposed to be Terrified. Vader is going one-handed and it’s just simply toying with Obi-Wan.

I've been thinking a lot about Palpatine v the 4 Jedi lately. It's definitely the bottom of my list. The Jedi Windu brought with him were not just masters, they were supposed to be masters of lightsaber combat specifically. I get that there are lots of reasons it could make sense. Sidious was supposed to be a badass and didn't get many chances to show it. Choreographing the first 4v1 lightsaber battle would have been a pain, and probably expensive. A prolonged battle would have extended the runtime, and again weighed on the budget. Just from watching the movies no one would even know the names of the other Jedi, nevermind why they were the ones chosen, so who cares? But damnit, if no-name characters automatically die in three seconds why even include them? "Oh, did you see how fast he killed those red-shirts? He's so strong!"

Vader has now been beaten twice by Obi-Wan, the first time on Mustafar, Obi-wan destroyed Anikin's body, the 2nd time Obi-wan shreds Vader's Armor. So maybe Vader is still afraid of Obi-wan on the Death Star. The real story of why the fight was so tame is that David Prowse was a very big man and a few times nearly killed Alec Guinness, so they had to tone the fight down. Plus that is the first light saber duel in Star Wars movies, so I am not sure if they knew what to do with it. So it looks like a Sword fight with Errol Flynn.

18:14 I think we can ALL agree that ROTS Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Anakin Skywalker was EPIC & that part where they show their lightsabers don't hit & follows their technique until it finally collides 🤯🙀 & then both use Force evenly matched, but got pushed away with that EPIC score music going 📴🤯🙀
Overall in the list, it's a pretty good tier & can't argue with that I tell you what 🤠. Yup, ee yup, yup, Mmmhm.😹😸😎👍👏💯
