    This cane is especially useful for making dolls eyes and dragon eye pendants

      Merci beaucoup!

    The inner section created some interesting eye-like texture to go with the i-kat. However the middle section that transitions between the two kind of ruins the effect in my opinion (for a realistic eye at least). The transition between light an dark is too drastic, which doesn’t resemble most natural eyes, and creates the jagged lines where the piece was assembled. The texture of the middle part seems more fruit-like than eye-like as well.
    I would recommend skipping the middle section and that would allow a more natural transition of tone and color from the i-Kay block to the other one. But a edge layering of the two blocks would be even better, to blend more.
    Just some thoughts to try out to make it more realistic.

      I recommend doing an extensive search on Google images for "eye iris" to see what you call the "middle layer". It exists in all irises, and it's the segment where the sphincter pupillae muscles meet the dilator pupillae muscles. It may be less visible in dark color eyes but more noticeable in light colored eyes as well as hazel or eyes with central heterochromia.

      I am familiar with the parts of the iris and eye, both from my research for sculpting, anatomy class from art college and unfortunately recently from my Optomologist (I have chronic scleritis in my left eye). There are a ton of great macro photos of eyes available nowadays for reference. I was just saying the middle part of the cane for a human eye could use some workshopping as the finished product has a drastic line from dark to light which gives an unnatural look. Even people with heterochromia the colors blend into each other.
      The video asked for suggestions, so I suggested to try some different things with the middle section of the cane.

      I beg to differ, in the examples I have given the colors do NOT blend into each other, actually they are very different due to the different amount of collagen and the level they are on. Also, did you take into consideration that these canes are for making OOAK art dolls eyes and they end up being about 2-3 mm in diameter? What do you think happens if you don't make that line colorful enough to stand out?

      @kx160 Před 5 lety +1

      The video specifically said at around 0:55 that this was for eyes larger than 2mm (so that is why more detail is required than just the regular ikat cane).
      But I have gotten the point, despite the note at 18:55, suggestions are not welcome regarding this project. So I will leave it at that.
      Thanks for the tutorial, it gave me some ideas to try.

      Yes, I have gotten too the nit-picking issue disguised as "constructive criticism", no worries. I mean, seriously, "for eyes larger than 2 mm" means that the EYE is larger than 2 mm, not the iris of the eye. The size of the iris of the eye for dolls goes from 1/2 the diameter of the eye to 1/3 of the diameter of the eye. That is, that round white sphere that the iris is in the middle of. See, that's the issue with obstinate nitpicking. It doesn't make you appear as having full information processing capabilities.
