  • Hello and welcome to my first NIGHT DRIVE of the 2019 Volvo XC60 T6! A great little SUV, with the usual pros and cons. Here are my thoughts:
    Pros
    - Turbocharged and supercharged 2.0 liter, 4-cylinder engine provides great power and acceleration at any speed and rpm. 0-60 in the 6.2 to 6.4 second range is more than adequate, and midrange passing power is even more impressive.
    - Gas mileage: I averaged 26 mpg in mixed driving, which is excellent and at the upper end of the 22/28 city/highway fuel economy ratings.
    - Exterior and interior: A handsome-looking vehicle inside and out. Interior is spacious, well designed and materials are high quality. Gauges and infotainment system are well executed. Seats are comfortable and well bolstered. Headroom with the panoramic sunroof is excellent. Rear seats are perfect for large adults as well as baby and toddler seats; hatchback has good room for a vehicle this size.
    - Transmission: The 8-speed Aisin shifts smoothly, though it is sometimes lazy to downshift. But at least reliability won't be a concern given the transmission is Japanese and Aisin has a great reliability record.
    Cons
    - Handling: Steering feel is accurate and precise, though a bit too light. Grip is fine with the 20" wheels and 255 width tires, but the XC60 exhibits too much body roll in turns, you can really feel the weight transfer
    - Noise: The 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine is a technological wonder, but this boosted engine is quite noisy, especially compared to the class-leading 2.0 engine in the BMW 330i. Road noise is also very pronounced, no doubt the 20" wheels and tires contribute to this.
    - Ride: Pretty stiff, you can hear and feel road imperfections
    - Brakes: They stop OK, but pedal feel is hard and they don't stop as quickly as I'd like.
    - Cost: A decently equipped T6 model lands in the $50K range new, and a 2019 model (two years old as of this writing) with 30K miles sells for about $40,000. Not inexpensive by any means, though about on par with competitors such as the Acura RDX, Audio Q5, etc.
