I've been making props for a high school theatre department for 24 years, and my go-to recipe for fake blood is a mixture of red food coloring and chocolate syrup. Nice viscosity, non-toxic, cost-effective. Great for Shakespearean murder scenes (and there's LOTS of those), gorey cosplay, and Halloween!
The only downside to this, as taken from personal experience, is that you shouldn't let this mixture get into anyone's eye because it burns. I know since during a play where my classmate was in a scene where his eyes would be gouged out, our other colleagues accidentally poured the mixture on his eye. He was red eyed and teary after the play. It being chocolate probably made him less mad about it, lol.
My high school was an arts high school with a well-known drama department but I definitely don't remember a prop master like you there! Maybe because I wasn't in the drama program but nonetheless I wish you worked at my high school! From a former visual art student
I like how one of the prop blood companies is named Fleet St. bloodworks, I simply couldn't B Negative about one of my favorite plays being referenced here.
Another reason to use premade fake blood puddles? Because fake blood from SFX can effectively glue an actor to a floor. Someone I knew in school had been doing a super low budget, student horror film and they accidentally glued someone to the floor because one shot was taking so long to complete. I was shown the pictures, so I know they weren't joking, and I even did a test with stand in material and yes, certain kinds CAN dry down and act as adhesive.
I just found your channel and I love it so much! My prop brain is exploding with new ideas, Dad jokes are a bonus! Lol So at the end You said one of the bloods wasnt edible and that makeup does that, so is makeup in charge of making the edible blood when needed?
I used to work in a hospital laboratory running blood tests so I thought I knew what blood looked like. Most movies get blood wrong by making it look too bright red and making it clear red.
In the 1960's, color process made the colors green/red/yellow/blue _ultra_ saturated. Extremely challenging for blood to look like anything but bright ketchup. (Probably why psycho was b/w.) I love the look of the 60's movies now, but any blood scene was comical! These days, there's no excuse. Pretty disappointing Hollywood hasn't gotten it yet. Blood turns brown fast! And it's not the color of a maraschino cherry! :D
It wasn’t me. Someone was using my videos without my permission and using my profile picture. I’m trying get my channel going but I’m new to CZcams. Still trying to figure it all out.
Hi, I wanted to ask, how is edible blood made? Thanks for your videos are very interesting. He hoped that one day he would make video of props from other parts of the world.
Homemade recipes are, for example, chocolate syrup with dye (Hitchcock used it), you can also use cocoa, transparent corn syrup or potato flour (this one won't be very tasty). There are different recipes, fake blood is used for different purposes. The blood itself also looks different, it can be bright red or almost black. You have to read the recipes yourself, or buy ready-made fake blood. Most of them are intended for makeup, but edible versions are also available (Idk what they contain).
One trick I remember from an old black and white movie was where a guy was to be punched in the face and then spit blood, and their approach was to have him sip some black coffee and then spit it out for that shot.
I commented this on the fake CZcams channel but the one thing about real blood none of these can replicate is the deep colored staining around the puddle and how it gets crusty after a while then chips off into flakes I used to have really bad bloody noses that would spring open like a faucet if I bumped my nose wrong so I spent a lot of time cleaning blood splatter after I rushed to the bathroom for toilet paper And the one thing I’d always notice is once I do the first wipe there was always a thicker outline where the splatter ended that you had to go over a bunch of times because it was already drying and getting crusty Also blood stains NEVER come out of clothes or fabric 100%
A blood fluke was living in the vein of a horse and wasn't feeling too well. One day he saw an artery with it's oxygen rich blood. He decided to move over to it as it appeared a healthier place to live. Big mistake, too much oxygen for his sickly body. Moral? Don't change streams in the middle of a horse.

I think for chairs and tables in WWE, they have old and damaged ones where the connecting points are worn and loose, so that they don't even stay in place by friction. With a bit of glue, the legs stay in place and it looks solid, but when you put a grown man on that table, or you smash that chair over a guy's back, the fragile glue bond breaks and the furniture comes apart in pieces, and you can make it look really cool and dramatic. Note though that you gotta know how to properly receive such strikes and how to properly fall, as well as how to strike or throw someone else without seriously hurting them. WWE and similar wrestlers are all trained and co-ordinated stuntmen who gotta know how to carry out and properly receive all kinds of moves to look good without getting themselves or others paralyzed or killed, and usually they gotta do it live, in front of a crowd, no reshoots.
This video is bloody good.
Thats a PROPer pun
These jokes are making me laugh till I bleed out my ears 😂
I see what you did there.
Bloody hell was that a dad joke well I was having A positive day but now not so much so thank you marrow much

That’s honestly pretty good
I assume it causes more gore like violence compared to rubber like surface blood
@@iamjadon8075 AND it's edible, so no worries for the "vampires"!

Came for the props, stayed for the puns!
Fantastic! Thank you

This would be an amazing Halloween party prop
Great and interesting info on props that is followed by a banger of a dad joke. You are 5/5 on the funny. Keep up the good work.
Excellent punning!
I've been saying for years that those puddles were molded. So good to finally see I was right. :)
Love watching you explain stuff… the puns tho! 😂
Overall, you have another subscription.
Keep it up!
love the puns
That was a bloody good time.
well done
Thanks!!!!
These wordplay jokes are gold
making a dad joke with a drawing of dad. the real inception.
Great idea. Do they have other puddle colors too?
It is the pun for me🤣

It looks so real
I don't see blood puddles listed on the hawgfly website. How did you get them?
It absolutely kills me when movies have blood with pink undertones instead of yellow undertones. Does nobody actually notice in production?
My sister made fake blood using red paint and dish soap.
Hey what happened to the other channel

was on the set once and I was bored so I started drawing stars on the blood (I was young 5-8) my dad was not too happy lol
The puns make it. What do they use for the edible blood
Chocolate syrup and some red dye is a common one.
I commented this on the fake CZcams channel but the one thing about real blood none of these can replicate is the deep colored staining around the puddle and how it gets crusty after a while then chips off into flakes

If you use cold water and use a toothbrush it helps. If you can get into cold water immediately it definitely helps!

Bro what about breakable tables or guitars like in wwe😂

I watch a lot of movies from the 70" what was the blood they used back then , because it looks so unrealistic.
So... many... puns... *expires*
Bloody hell
0:28 "We still use REAL fake blood"... or do you use FAKE real blood? Lol Jk
