We use Ubiquiti products for all of our APs and routers at work and we love them. I currently use their EdgeRouter X and older green AP at home and it's great. Tried using just their AmpliFi HD router standalone since my apartment isn't that big and had issues. I'd love to try the Alien at some point.

Have you considered a wired backhaul to the Mesh Point? That way you shouldn't have a drop in throughput when you're next to the Mesh Point.

I totally understand what you are talking about internet speed. I had a 10mbit speed until about a year ago. Now I have 400/200 Mbit(50/25mb) and it's just incredible.

Does the sheer raw speed of the Alien outweigh the potential disadvantage of no dedicated backhaul between the router and the Mesh node? Just wondering how this compares to both the Netgear Orbi 6 and the new BT Premium Home Wifi which have a dedicated backhaul channel?

Good video. Seems like almost as good as the Orbi WiFi 6 I bought. I am getting speeds on a non WiFi 6 phone of 630 mbps and on my Galaxy S10 WiFi 6 phone I have topped out at 808 mbps. Only thing is the Alien has only a gig wan. Orbi 6 has a 2.5 wan gig capabilities. Alien still seems like a solid choice though.
if i get a sky deal with 56mbps, and i buy this router will it still work correctly. or do i need a deal that allows those bigger numbers?

Amplifi will give the same wifi speed which your isp is providing. However, i can cover a large area giving good results.
For example, if you have 200 speeds from the ISP, then the Amplifi router should give the same speed on wireless and wired on the client devices. It will not boost the speed above 200 as the ISP is only providing that much speed on your connection.
What internet provider does this work with? This download speeds are insane
How are u even getting 300mbs on the old amplifi hd? Did u have it in bridge mode? I am only getting like 100mbs even right next to router. I have 1gb internet as well

I’ll be frank with you buddy there is no plans at all for amplifi to bring the alien to the uk ... the market is to small for them for make a large enough profit, I’m guessing he purchased it from eBay for probs £400 not including import tax from some guy in the USA. Wi-fi 6 is not the standard very few devices support it. I have a 1GB line and using the google nest router over Wi-fi and on a iPhone 11 getting just over 500mb. Unless you are trying to add a few hundred devices to your network save your money

I work for the largest Ubiquiti supplier in the UK and they are definitely bringing the Alien to the UK - a little late, sure, but it is coming and is already on their EU store. Please can you keep your unsubstantiated "advice" to yourself. SMH.

I'm surprised how much people in the comments don't have these kinds of speeds yet. This is not new and most plans are very affordable.. Anyhow, the device you bought yourself is very nice. Might be treating myself to one of these in the near future!

I have 1gb download and upload, but when you have a family of 6 and multiple devices on the network, it can be a pain especially when on zoom; it consumes so much bandwith!
we have in australia NBN 40 MB/s. Looking at your speed is like 20 times faster its enough man. and 40 is more than enough for me here.

It depends; if the speed your are paying for is 5mb/s then no. This won’t improve the signal from your ISP. However if you pay for a much higher speed and you are only getting 5mb/s then you will greatly benefit from a higher end Wi-fi router. If you have a vast area to cover like you mentioned, try looking at a mesh internet setup there’s plenty on systems out there that will do what you are looking for.

what model iPhone are you using? I'm confused why you would get such low speeds on the previous system. You shouldn't be getting that low unless you've skewed with some settings to make it perform lower.

Idk if you’ll see this but what the range of this router? I live in a 5 bed 2 story house, if the range and match the house id be interested.

Did you use the same server to test both Routers? If not then these tests prove nothing.

I think it really depends on what you're using the internet for. As for me, since I download and upload big project files, I kinda at least need to have 300mbps with me 🤣
And here’s me with my 5mbps upload speed and he’s here for its 305 saying yep not quick enough
I went from having 1000/1000 connection to sharing a 10mb while staying with family before moving into a new house, you can be certain I got the fastest I could with 300 when we eventually moved in! 😂

eddyo1993 it has basic settings for this but for a more advanced level of QoS control you’ll be better off looking at the Ubiquiti dream machine.

I can only dream of getting those kinds of speeds, just checked my wifi 4.99 Mbps (download) and 14.9 Mbps (upload). Clearly, my Virgin fibre broadband isn't all that.
