    I have an Alien router + a TPLink RE650 range extender. Our house is like 1580 sq ft and the Alien covers the entire house. The only reason I use the range extender is because I have backyard cameras that are mounted on the shed and the pool deck so I wanted those to have a strong signal. I also saw a CZcams video where a guy goes into depth on why it is much better to have two Alien routers set up as a mesh system rather then buy the Alien/Mesh combination package. I'd have to go back & watch his video to see why he says making a mesh system with two Aliens is better though.

      In the earlier firmware version, the mesh point was permanently paired to the Alien Router, which made it useless if your original alien router died, but with a new firmware, they added ability to unpair mesh point. Still, buying another alien router is slightly more expensive compared to the kit, and gives you another screen point, with 4 LAN ports, so even though i wont say that that strategy is 'much better' now, it can still make more sense for a lot of people.

    On this mesh system if your not using the band steering that’s automatically enabled because you need to have seperete SSIDs for 2.4ghz only devices . I read the amplify Configuring SSIDs article and am confused because the router 3 SSIDs available , 1 WiFi 6 5Ghz. 1 WiFi 6 2.4ghz and 1 WiFi 5 5Ghz to be able to enable and in their setting it shows like example of SSID name AMPLIFI-Alien-Routrer-2x or 5x. However the mesh point on that page shows a completely different SSID than any on the router ? All I want is 2 SSIDS one for 2.4ghz only devices like smart plugs , cameras etc, and the 5Ghz network for computer, phone , etc . This is very confusing with Amplify ? So I guess my main big question is CAN THE MESH POINT HAVE THE SAME SSIDS AS THE ROUTER ??

    This is the best looking router on the market, it’s been out for a couple years, so I wonder if they’re going to put out one that is 6E or seven , soon.

    Sid, if you do a wired backhaul, wouldn't the 'dedicated' wireless backhaul connection between the router and the satellite remain unused/ wasted? Wi-Fi mesh seems to be the strong suit of this mesh system after all.

      Due to some weird limitations with the tri band configuration (theres a Wi Fi 5 5GHz band, and a Wi-Fi 6 5GHz band), this performs best with wired backhaul. It's also the case with most other mesh systems. Even if that says unutilized (I think there should be ways to use that bandwidth for clients), wired is more stable. Good question though.

      Just a router. Modem routers are trash. You're ALWAYS better off having 2 separate devices for modem and wireless router rather than a modem/wireless router.

  • @AmdavadiHitman

    I think this is a bit too expensive and the screen on the main unit is a gimmick. I'd rather go with TP Link's Deco XE75 pro which has got a 2.5 gig port. I purchased 5 units of XE75 (non pro) for my home which has 3 gigabit ports and any unit can be the main unit. You can mix and match any other Deco device with this network. I've got a 300Mbps plan from Jio fiber and have done ethernet wiring in all the rooms except for 1 room where wireless backhaul is being used. This system uses the latest WiFi 6e technology and is giving me superb speeds throughout my home. Got 5 units for a little under 56K. I guess the absurdly high asking price of AmpliFi is due to its brand name, and I think there are better options for this price range.

    • @TechReflex
      @TechReflex  Před rokem +1

      Yep, not saying this is the most value for money product. Though this is definitely a very interesting router, the prices are also higher in India compared to international pricing. The other similarly performing mesh systems like Netgear Orbi were priced high too.
      Also, this is an older model, but the company has just entered India.

    This is Amplifi mesh router from Ubiquiti which is not huge hit in US and any part of world being using Ubiquiti and working with them I see the price doesn’t justify for Indian market instead of going this path you should UniFi APs which are great for coverage and throughput

    • @TechReflex
      @TechReflex  Před rokem +1

      Their other stuff is also expensive at the moment in India. I think they've just entered the Indian market. I'll research more on their APs, I don't remember if there was a mesh solution which I could set up wirelessly that also supported Wi-Fi 6 on the Indian store.
