  • Hi all, it's been a while again, I have uploaded this video I took on my phone (hence poor quality, sorry!) of last Sunday night's walk from Glossop to Cown Edge and back just so you know I haven't forgotten about you all!

Awesome views of Glossop and Manchester....it looks magical at night...shame they're not as nice up close in the daytime 🤣 you can't beat a night walk, it's been a while since I've done one. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻

I rented a house on Queen Street in Glossop years ago ( the steep one opposite Tesco ) and I used to do this walk most weeks.

Thanks for commenting, so you know first hand what a great walk this is. It never gets old for me.

I don't know if you already know but that prayer mound is a Bronze Age burial cairn. In-fact the all around there is a cairn field
It's also said that in around 79AD a battle took place with Brigantes and Cornovii tribes against the Romans, and if you head a bit further south there is Robin Hood's Picking Rods where the base of the Saxon pillars is said where the druids sacrificed victims on the eve of battle
I don't know how much of it is true though

Fascinating information there, many thanks for that. I wouldn't be surprised if it were a burial mound as there's quite a lot of them in this area.

Impressive night hike. You walked around the Edge at night, it's a scary enough drop in the day.
Did it not feel at all creepy walking next to the woods on the ridge in the pitch dark

Thanks for commenting, do you know the area then? I have walked it in the dark so many times that I feel no fear at all, I must admit it was a bit scary the first couple of times though.

That looks like a good torch! May I ask what it is? You mentioned you pray, and meditate! The wilderness is good for that, I do also!

The torch is actually my bike light, it's a Ravemen PR1200. Its 1200 lumens on full brightness but I have it on about a quarter power most of the time. Yes, prayer is a natural response for me in the beauty of the outdoors, I feel the Lord's presence much more out there :-)
