      @@Aaron-zu3xn Then you need to know where exactly the tank crosses a breach. This would only be a kill point. The PARM makes a kill line between houses, groups of trees,...
      And you don't need to dig in open sight, make a hole where you can spot something strange looking on the path of your tank... This is set up much quicker.

    • @dankovac1609
      @dankovac1609 Před 2 lety

      @@Aaron-zu3xn i mean, the bottom of a tank is vulnerable enough that using regular AT mines like so might as well be enough, right?
      However i do see the advantage of actually penetrating the bottom hull instead of relying on a concussive blast and possibly spalling.
      I think that a design of a conventional mine with a shaped charge could have a much smaller cone and thus be more convenient for burying it. Plus I'd put a slight delay on the detonation so that you aren't putting a hole only through the tracks, transmission or drive sprocket but under the actual fighting compartment.
      Maybe it could be just a big spike looking long shaped charge, that you can put in the ground by simply making a deep narrow hole with a hand drill, like one of those made for gardening.

    You simply string a fiber optic tripwire over a roadway/path where you expect enemy tanks and aim the mine to strike the vehicle which triggered the mine.

      Much of the promised superior cannon did not make it to the front.
      The Ukrainians are forced to eat losses until the Russians advance then pop up and kill a few. Not sustainable. Even a small amount of mid range rockets would push back the Russians. Ukraine needs to reduce the number of launchers in Russian hands and needs an AA defense against supersonic inbound missiles. I notice Iron Dome never made it despite promises. Camouflage netting is cheap. I would like to see them connected to a wireless network. You could bury them with a simple 'pop- up' mechanism as part of the trigger mechanism. You also create lots of dummy mechanisms, so the enemy doesn't know which ones are real and which are dummies. There was a video of a mine placed on the road, and the vehicle driving off-road to go around it and blowing up on the real mine. You hide the dummy mines poorly and the real mines well.

      Traditional mines also have more explosives material inside.
      I have seen several videos of russian MBTs cooking off after hitting a mine.
      But pressure wave and spalling caused by the mine under the hull, can still kill the crew inside if the tank isnt already destroyed.
      Sharp charges work with less explosives, but need hit at a specific angle to penetrate the armor.

    I seriously doubt that warhead would only defeat 100mm of RHA. BL755 bomblets are only a couple of inches in diameter and will do a lot more than that. The rough rule of thumb I was given by the designers of the BL755 warhead was that a well designed shaped charge will do about 9 diameters of RHA. So BL would have done something like 18" in ideal conditions. LAW80, also designed by that team, was a 94mm round, so ideally it should have done around 800mm of RHA and the claimed penetration is 700mm. This mine had similar diameter, so should have similar performance.

      @WozWozEre Před 2 lety +4

      It appears to actually fire the warhead at the target, so the stand off rod works just like a shoulder launched warhead would, detonating the warhead. I believe some off-route mines do no do this and are simply a flat faced EFP that relies on being placed at the correct distance from the target. This model has a lot more lee-way in placement as it's more of a remote launcher than a mine.

    • @TheMoldyMenace
      @TheMoldyMenace Před 2 lety +1

      Basically shaped charge warheads don't produce the deepest penetration when they go off at point blank range to the armor plate, but need some distance to form the superplastic penetrator jet. As such a lot of HEAT weapons have a stand off detonator, even if it is not always obvious like on the RPG-7 as @Maave pointed out. The Wikipedia article on slat armor even claims that most stand off detonators on HEAT warheads are actually shorter than would be needed for optimal penetration for reasons of compactness and diminishing returns on stand off distance. As such slat armor sometimes gets referred to as "probability armor": In cases where the missile hits the bars with the body of it’s warhead it gets deformed, disrupting the Munroe effect of the shaped charge and thus decreasing penetration greatly. But in cases where the missile hits the bar straight on with its detonator, the stand of range to the actual armor plate is increased and the penetration capability is unaffected or may even increase.
