- Well, as a reward for getting to 3K subscribers well before the end of the year, I’m covering the entirety of the Kingdom Hearts franchise, starting with the first game. It was certainly a gamble when it first released back in 2002, but it’s clearly paid off with Kingdom Hearts being as massive of an IP as it is. That said, every franchise has to start somewhere; so does the first game hold its own well? From what I can tell, the fans seem to think so, albeit due to nostalgia, but what about me as a newcomer? Well…

So how do you feel about Kingdom Hearts? The first game, not the whole franchise.
First game was alright . Not the best , but not the worst either .
I love the story, graphics, gameplay and music but I hate the fact that the game doesn’t tell you where to go, the game is so unbelievably hard even on normal difficulty, the grind is not fun at all and the end of the world is one of the worst final worlds I have ever played so it’s fine but don’t worry the series is gonna get better gameplay wise.

To be fair. Robin Williams refused to work for Disney after the first movie because they violated his contract by using his name to market the film. The only exceptions were for educational material like a math game they did and King of Thieves since that was made to be the finale of the Aladdin franchise.
I actually did not know about that.
@@tonysonic456 I will say that once you get to Re:Coded and if it's through the HD Cutscenes, you'll hear an actor who does a better impression of Williams in my opinion. Jim Meskimen gets much closer to Williams' voice then old Homer ever could.

Yeah haha the Ansem fight has checkpoints haha couldn’t be me doing that fight while doing Unchanging Armor (don’t change equipment OR KEYBLADES), Undefeated (don’t use a Continue a single time) and Speedster (Defeat World of Chaos, the final boss, in FIFTEEN hours) three times haha. Gotta say though, it’s definitely one of the best ways to play the game. Maybe y’know without Unchanging Armor more than once since y’know Riku-Ansem is annoying and a half when you aren’t using a Keyblade with high recoil which can deflect attacks easily, such as Olympia or Metal Chocobo, but it’s definitely a really cool fight, better than Maleficent at least since he has less health and as a one on one, has lots of interactions. And the Sephiroth fight is amazing, but not as cool as the KH2 fight for sure. In fact, for me the KH1 fight took me to my Limits, but the KH2 fight made me love the games, after fighting for so long and winning gave me the dopamine hit that made me addicted. In fact yeah, everything in this game is improved in 2, this game kinda is a beta test and 2 is the actual game. And for 2, Critical Mode is the definitive way to play, and Proud is the hardest difficulty ironically, so honestly I will say blind Proud is way better than Critical.

I absolutely love the Kingdom hearts series. Can’t wait for chain of memories. Idk if you’re planning to 100 percent every game, but if you are, I wish you luck. (Especially on Birth by sleep. *Shudders*)
I think the "Where did you come from" is more of a "I don't recognize you" rather than Sora finally seeing him.
If that was the case, wouldn't Sora say that other than "Where did you come from?"?

You could just let the clock reset on your proud save it happens after 99:99. That’s the cheese strat for the under 15 hours trophy.
Yeah, but I had used continues and changed my equipment dozens of times over the course of my Proud playthrough. I was saving those three achievements for the speedrun as well. Plus, I don't like to use cheese strats unless they're way too easy to pull off. I prefer to do things the way the devs intended, and I don't think leaving my game open for several days is what they had in mind for the under 15 hours achievement.

24:49 another thing you should've mentioned is that if you backtrack from that area to resupply and recover from the thrashing you, Goofy, and especially Donald received, it respawns and you gotta refight that thing all over again!
25:46 yeah, for the later phases but if you die in the third phase (solo Sora vs Ansem) you have to redo the second phase (Darkside AKA tutorial punching bag)
1) Well, it’s a good thing I didn’t backtrack then.
2) Yeah, I found that out too, but taking out the Darkside was a piece of cake so I didn’t consider it a big deal.
@@tonysonic456 I'll admit, the reason why I mentioned it was because up until that point, I was using only the Kingdom Key, which would've been fine if I was Lv 90, but I was just under 70 so I was dealing chip damage until I swapped to a more powerful keyblade (which hurt because I failed my self-imposed challenge of canon-only stuff. e.g. I'm currently playing BoTW and most of my slots are filled with Soldier's Broadswords, Traveler's Bows, and Traveler's Shields)
@@renaikit7007 I only did that during my speedrun on the lowest difficulty. Can’t imagine doing that on normal or proud mode. Also, damn, that BOTW challenge sounds rough. How are you gonna get through Eldin with that equipment?

7:09 Ariel was originally suppose to be one of the Princesses of Heart, considering that she is a princess. However because the writers didn't have a way to bring her into Castle Oblivion without first changing her from a mermaid to a human (which they did eventually do in KH2) Alice was chosen to replace her.
11:34 Jafar explicitly told Genie to "crush them", not specifically kill them. Genie can hurt or inflict some form of harm, but not KILL.
Okay, but that still doesn’t explain why Alice of all characters was chosen to replace her. And surely it wouldn’t have been that hard to have Maleficent just cast a spell on Ariel to temporarily make her human.
@@tonysonic456 it's possible that Alice is pure enough to qualify as a Princess of Heart, despite not being a princess. I do however wish Nomura implemented a way for Ariel to fit into the main story, but for that to happen, the events of Ariel's movie The Little Mermaid has to play out, Ariel signs Ursula's contract, causing her to lose her voice and become human, THEN Maleficent can kidnap her to steal her heart. Nomura didn't come up with that, so he made Alice a substitute. I wish I can explain it any other way, but I got nothing else.
As for Maleficent casting a spell on Ariel. She could have, but Maleficent still has some limits and restrictions. If she was really that overpowered and can do whatever she wanted, she wouldn't even need the rose gallery of Disney villains or Riku to steal the other Princesses of Heart. Plus considering that Nomura was given the opportunity to include as many Disney films from their Golden Era in Kingdom Hearts, he wanted to capitalize on that.

(3:02) Sora meant "From what place did he come from?" since he came out of the blue in that specific corner and suddenly disappears seconds after that. He isn't someone familiar to Destiny Islands, so he had to ask that. But that could have been worded better .
(4:36) I can understand KH1 being the first time, but what is not so fun about the Gumni Ship sections are the Reverse Y-axis controls. LIKE WHY?! IT MAKES THE CONTROLS SO JANK TO THE POINT AVOIDING STUFF IS SO HARD! (My opinion)
(8:33) The real sin here is we hear English, but Sora, Donald, and Goofy don't get any of what Tarzan said. 🤣 But yes, if only they could speak.
(8:47) The summons do get more useful in KHII. Other than not using MP, they provide a better variety of abilities (or worse depending on summon) that aids you during the fights AND can be leveled up to last longer.
(10:13) Wait, how easy did you find Deep Jungle? Many people also not know where to go from there since that place is INFAMOUS for the lengthy backtracking. Yeah, KH1 left a lot to be desired about knowing where to go, and it sucks if you did not watch a guide.
(10:59) Disney reaped what they sow for disrespecting Robin Williams. Now he won't voice anymore Genie iterations from Disney.
(11:40) This fight I have to agree is not fun. Jafar levitating and travelling to other areas is just too mobile and forces you to walk so much to provide little hits to him, or none at all. As much as I hate to bring up the not-mainline games, this fight is better in Re:Coded's iteration of the Jafar fight where he teleports to random locations and stays there until some time passes and he fights with shadow clones which is just so epic in my book.
(12:42) Jesus, even in Re:Coded the genie part cannot be saved. The fight is just 1:1 on hitting Iago and in all honesty makes the KH1 version of this fight SO MUCH WORSE!

(30:06) OH DON'T GET ME STARTED ON WHY PEOPLE DON'T BOTHER COMPLETING FINAL MIX! I know I said I never played 1.5 or KHFM, but motherfucker... They really made Ultima Weapon a fucking CHORE to collect! It takes hours or days for a casual player to grind for the materials for the Ultima Weapon in Final Mix and it's just not worth investing since Divine Rose is super buffed. They rather use "average-sized" Divine Rose for strength than the Ultima Weapon with very high strength, +2 Mana, and hard to deflect. With those stats, you'd feel like it is a reward but eh...

P.S. if you visit Deep Jungle BEFORE Wonderland, the cutscene with Alice and the villains would change to Snow White.
I noticed that while looking at footage for the scripting, and it's a nice detail. However, I still think they could've included Ariel if they had just said that Maleficent turned her human temporarily.
That's fine. I still enjoy the first game. While I agree on some aspects that did not age well, it is an ambitious and revolutionary crossover that evolved as time passed. Plus, it's nice to finally meet you; been a fan of your Sonic videos for some time. I wrote a historical article series on Sonic up till...Team Sonic Racing since Frontiers was fresh and new at the time. :) @@tonysonic456

You’ll probably vent about how he suck or that he supposedly retconned Afton and how that makes no sense (though to be fair it isn’t confirmed to be Glitchtrap, to my knowledge), or how he isn’t Glitchtrap. As for the big surprise I imagine it’s something Fnaf related, a Security Breach rewrite announcement. (Just some ideas of what you might be doing)

This might be an obscure pick, but can you do everything right and wrong with Dreams PS4/PS5? Specifically the Art's Dream campaign. If not, then I do have another suggestion, and it's Sonic Mania which doesnt seem to be done by Charriii5, but the rights would heavily outweigh the wrongs in that one.

Except Jafar said before making the wish that they wouldn’t live to see what lies beyond the door. He had full intentions of killing them and wanted Genie to assist in doing so.
@@tonysonic456 Even then, Genie won't necessarily kill you. If you happen to get hit by him, he immediately gives you HP and MP orbs to make it up to you. He's not killing you if he's healing you as well.
@@andrewpotts Still, the orders were to kill them. If he wasn't able to kill, he should've said he couldn't like he did in the movie when Jafar wished for Jasmine to fall in love with him.
@@tonysonic456 🤷♂️ Maybe Kingdom Hearts just follows a different set of rules than the Disney versions. Take Pinocchio for example. After the boss fight in Monstro, he genuinely thought he wasn't going to make it. His nose grew anyway assuring him that he's going to be alright. That shouldn't count since the nose should only grow when he's intentionally lying.
@@andrewpotts I don't know about that. Sure, his nose grows when he lies, but it was never established that it depended on intentions. It just grew when he lied, and that was that.

It was to illustrate the point. If I hadn't shown enough of the cutscene, my point might not hold enough weight.

The first game was fun. Im not sure if you will do a video on Re:Chain of Memories or not. But Re:Chain of Memories is somehow my favorite Kingdom Hearts game. Despite a lot of people do not like that game. And the Sephiroth fight in KH2 was not easy.
I said at the end that I'm gonna do Re:Chain of Memories next after a discussion video.

@@tonysonic456Final Mix was a version that was released later in Japan and is the version used in all re-releases of the game.
Vanilla Kingdom Hearts I, II, and Birth By Sleep is great, but Final Mix adds more features, and content that's better(or worse depending on experience) than the Vanilla version
Sadly, the Final Mix versions are Japan exclusive and in places other than Japan, you can only play the Final Mix versions on Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 HD ReMix. (I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE PS3 PORTS, EVEN IF 1.5 IS GOOD, 2.5 ON PS3 WILL RUIN YOU.)
