    Also check your surroundings when you bail, don't want your board hitting someone else, good communication is key

    All good points. The only thing I will comment on is if you know a surf break really well you should always have a good idea of how shallow the reef is in the impact zone. Even if you don't know the break well, it's easy to get an idea of reef depth by looking and feeling. Some breaks you can dive deep, others you can't.

    Exactly what a youtube video should be, informative and to the point.
    Tips on surfing a Reef Break:
    1. Make sure stringer is parallel to the wave as its breaking in front of you
    2. ALWAYS bail feet first (my thought is bail feet first and pancake your body flat
    3. To save your legrope: ball up your body underwater with your feet facing the beach, as the wave hits above you and takes your board slowly extend your foot with the leg rope to give you an extra 2 feet which could save your leg rope
    4. To retrieve your board quickly: Use one of your fingers as a lever and lift up with that hand and down with your foot. it will quickly bring your board closer to you.

    Great video, very useful tips! I've been doing the 'bent legs' trick too. I'd add a +1: Look around, and if there's someone behind you, or someone riding the wave on a collision course, don't f-in bail your board! EVER.

    If the waves are challenging I find it pays to allow yourself to be washed in as far as possible - to get out of the danger zone. I used to do battle to try and hold my ground.

    I bailed my board and it was broken into two separate piece! I am pretty sure my board is facing toward to beach, can’t figure out why it was broken!

    • @fghkufzc9833
      @fghkufzc9833 Před 3 lety

      Maybe i should parallel instead?

    • @fghkufzc9833
      @fghkufzc9833 Před 3 lety

      Some suggested the board should facing towards the beach, so i am not sure? And can parallel technique can be used for unbroken big wave or just white water?

    • @wavepark
      @wavepark  Před rokem +1

      The board should always be bailed parallel to the wave.
