      Awesome! I actually swapped the chicken wire out for lattice because a neighbor complained about the appearance, but I think either would look nice.

    Awesome idea! You can also use screen and if you go all the way up it helps keep the mosquitoes out too. :). I have males and added a "pee fire hydrant" for them to aim at, lol.

      Fire hydrant! What a cute idea!!! I'm gonna go find one for my male dog. (He's currently using my plants.) Also, using screen is smart. I'm already starting to see mosquitoes and it's only February. 😒 Thanks for the tips!

      Thanks! One of my neighbors actually complained about it (after she saw me struggling to complete this project), so my landlord had lattice installed. I'm going to decorate my balcony next week, so I'll have a video up that will show the lattice in case you wanted to see how it turned out. I like it way more than the chicken wire, but I think the wire looked fine as well.

    Heya, super helpful video. I have a Chihuahua and I'm thinking of getting an apartment soon with my BF but never lived in an apt before so I've been worried about my little guy on the balcony! I did have a question about the potty patch, how often have you had to clean it or replace the grass and how is the odor? Thanks!

    • @MaxxsMom
      @MaxxsMom  Před 4 lety +2

      Thanks! I clean it everyday as far as picking up poop and watering it. I think watering it helps it to last longer but climate will probably also play a part. Mine usually lasts a month or so.

    Does the grass accumulate odor as time goes? How do you clean and drain it?

    • @MaxxsMom
      @MaxxsMom  Před 3 lety +4

      I live in a hot climate so there's no need to drain it. Cleaning is simply picking up waste and watering it. I do that daily. There's no odor because I clean it daily and switch out the grass when necessary. Depending on the weather that's every 2-5 weeks.

    • @MaxxsMom
      @MaxxsMom  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi! My dog Maxx is a boy and he pees on the grass. I've also put up some plants that don't respond negatively to him peeing on them. I believe shrubs are resistant to urine. Check to see what plants are nontoxic to dogs and will withstand potty time.

    • @devanste50
      @devanste50 Před 3 lety +1

      @MaxxsMom  Před 3 lety +2

      @@devanste50 He pees into the grass. I guess it's the way he stands. He doesn't step into the grass unless he's sniffing it. 🤷 It's on my to-do list to find more plants for the balcony though. I have a few that were gifted to me and I haven't a clue what they're called but he pees on those as well and they haven't died. (It's an everyday cleanup to keep the balcony clean. Can't wait to have a yard!!) If I find any balcony plants that are great for male dogs to potty on I will more than likely do a video about it.

      Karyn Camille how often do you change out the real grass? That’s what I can’t seem to find an answer to 😭😭😭 I have a Lab / Great Pyrenees mix puppy trying to potty train. She doesn’t use the puppy pads well. Want to switch to grass indoor potty since she goes outside on the grass. While I’m away for work, I need a better solution for indoors until she is house broken.

      I change the grass regularly so it does not have a smell. The grass needs to be changed every few weeks and it's good to also pick up the poop and water the grass so that it stays fresh for your dog.

    What state do you live in? And what store do you go to specifically, I can’t find any near me. I’m in Texas and just moved to a new apartment complex and SURPRISE they don’t treat their grass so my dog has fleas and brought fleas into the house. It not fair to any of us so I’m going to try out the patio potty you made AND cover the railing because I have a chiweenie who can also fit through and she’s nosey. So thank you!!!

    • @MaxxsMom
      @MaxxsMom  Před 3 lety +2

      I get the grass from my local plant nursery. Lowe's and Home Depot have sod sometimes. Also, vacuuming daily helps to prevent fleas from laying eggs in your carpet. That along with your dog's heartworm/flea preventative should do the job!

    • @karacancer

      @@MaxxsMom does the sod absorb the urine well or is there a pool of urine/water sitting in the plastic crate tray? I’m trying to decide if I want to just buy a plastic crate tray like you or one of those “draining” patio potties that fill a little bucket off Amazon and put sod on that instead of the fake thin grass mat.
