- How to Install a Differential Breather kit on a Nissan Xterra. This is a great way to keep your breather vent out of the vulnerable spot it lives from the factory if you expose your truck to wet and muddy environments.
It is very common for dirt and mud to clog the fitting, allowing excess pressure to build inside the differential case. As pressure increases, it damages axle seals resulting in fluid leaks and expensive repairs.
With this complete kit, you can conveniently relocate the breather to a higher position beneath your truck, effectively preventing contaminants from reaching the vent. The kit comes complete with detailed instructions and all the necessary hardware, eliminating the need for special tools or expertise.

Installed one of these on my 2019 D40 Pro-4X and it worked like a charm! Ran a very flooded Imogene Pass after without issue! Now I just need to get around to installing your UCAs I've got sitting in my garage.
Thanks for this vid! Gonna be doing the first 2 sections of the WABDR at the end of the month and I picked one of these kits up.
Sweet! Enjoy the trails!
I'd use a plastic bristle brush to clean around the old breather before removal. No sealant or tape on the new threads ? Does the orientation of the new breather valve behind the taillight matter ? Thanks.
Yes, you will want to make sure that it is clean as not to get any dirt in your rear axle. You can use some tape or sealant for some added protection. As long as the end of the hose is above the "water" line you will be able to route it anywhere, but you will want to make sure it stays clean and away from moving parts.
only 1 question..... why the hose has to travel all the way till rear tail light?
We route it there to keep it up and out of the dirty areas under the truck and above the "water line". You can run it anywhere as long as it is free and clear of any moving parts.
