Definitely not in the plans, the brakes work very well. I have driven at 65 mph and had to come to stops fairly quick with no problems. The only other brake upgrade I plan on would be converting to a Duel Reservoir Master Cylinder.
@@benbencorvair9071 If you ever get a chance to get a set of FC rear brakes that would be a good upgrade. Since most of the weight is in the rear those bigger brakes would add the most to your stopping power. The disc brakes dont add much. The benefit is no more pull to the left on quick stops and perform better in wet conditions. Drum brakes are better stopping force but once they heat up they degrade in effectiveness. Also pads are easier to change and can be got at your local parts store. I upgraded to the dodge colt hubs so kept the stock 13" rims. They do sell a 14" plus set up. The dual MC is good but its more as a back up to the main reservoir in case of failure. A proportioning valve would help evening out the pressure from front to rear.
whoa. great job! great video. great work with th brakes. great patience and calm! im crazy for those cars. hadda red 2dr 110 4spd, in th 70s. just to listen to th motor purring thru th gears was music such that i quite seldom used th radio. thank you! my first peek of your corvair story. may you endeavor to persevere
nice to see a new video. i have wheel cylinders and shoes sitting in the drivers seat right now so this video is very timely. and dude, get new tires. mine had funky funks on it when i bought it and blew one out. and heads up, if you're rockin the 13s, tires are hard to find. i ended up getting some on amazon for like 27 bucks a piece. westlake i think? they got bad reviews but ive had em on since 2018 and never had an issue.
@@benbencorvair9071 tried sending a link but looks like it got blocked. price is up a lil bit to about 40 bucks per tire. This is the info for the tires I ended up getting: Westlake RP18 All- Season Radial Tire-175/70R13 82T
The thumbnail reminded me of decades ago we had a massive snowstorm (central Washington State) and our 64 Corvair convertible was one of the few vehicles that could get around so we ended up being the grocery getter for our neighborhood. I presume you told him about the "Spyder" (turbo / 150hp) and "Corsa" (140hp & turbo / 180 hp), but did he believe they exist? ;-) Save some money, those wheel cylinders may only need a cleaning and lite honing (crosshatch).
Hey glad to see You have another video out , To bad about NAPA know how! Nothing worse than loosing time on something through no fault of your own. & I remember when you had a good choice of different vendors for parts. hey Ben, great channel. I just got a corvair and your channel is really helpful. Looking at your engine, its so clean! Im wondering how deep money wise you are in the car? Just want to keep myself realistic and your feedback would be helpful. thanks.
I appreciate the support and am glad the channel is helpful! I haven't added it all up yet but I think I'm at about or less than 2.5k into it. Mind you that me doing all the labor. I can tell you that I spend more on new tires than getting the engine running.
@@benbencorvair9071 killer looking car. Good videos👍🏻 very encouraging. I just bought a 63 and it died right after I bought it so I'm starting my dive into it now. I'll be watching your videos as I go.
Totally forgot about that washer, I didn't have an extra one so I decided to leave it like that for the time being, then forgot. Hasn't giving me any trouble yet, next time I service the brakes I'll check it.

Any plans to upgrade the front brakes to Disc?

I recommend Clark’s disc brakes because upon repeated stops less brake fade.
Doing my first brake job and hub repack on my '63 Monza Spyder. I knew it'd pay off to check your channel first. 🙂
Thanx for your video. I will be doing a brake job on my '64 Monza here in about a week. This was very helpful.

WOW! I'm glad I watched your video. Riveted brake shoes are starting to look a lot better to me than adhesive brake shoes. 😳😲👎
Unfortunately at the time I couldn't find riveted ones so I went with glued. Haven't had a problem with them. More than 500 miles on them.
brake linings were bonded to the shoes in the past, not riveted. The vendors used to tout this feature bonded brake linings.

Thanks for the vid - I plan to do the brakes on my 64 later this spring. This makes it seem way less complicated than I thought it would be.
Love these cars I different car that a lot of people don’t like great job on your video.👍

Funny thing is, the website said the parts fit, I have not ordered from them before.
It’ll look better without the pinstripe!
On drums I think you have brake shoes right?
your awesome
He's my cousin I'm so prod to be his cousin as well he's the best
Does Clark’s make a disc brake conversion kit for your vintage CORVAIR?
Yeah I believe they do!

Thank you, that really means alot to me!

@@benbencorvair9071 were you a mechanic before this car?
Just got a 64 corvair, I noticed you said for parts always use Clark’s, what the website for that?
👍
Were you able to find riveted shoes? All I can find is bonded (glued).
I couldn't find any riveted ones, they sounded safer to me but I could only find bonded.
Looks like the ones you got are at least bonded properly. Clark’s?
At 15:00; you noted the "Washer Installed Wrong", but I didn't see any reference to it being fixed?

Obviously you remembered when editing the video. ;-)
CAUTION: I believe those pads may have asbestos in them. :-(
How long have you had it ?
Couple years, just started really getting to work on it about a year or so ago.
