Having lived in the 1960s and 70s, I recall that India was opposed to the militarisation of This atoll. India was supported by the usual cluster of nonaligned movement member countries. But then, who cares for a toothless group.
Once Stalin famously asked when told about the importance of the Pope: “ Pope? How many divisions does he command?”.
There will come a time when the axis of evil will get to see their almighty. That day will be the day they get to understand their work.
Yet a Pope was the reason behind the scenes for the fall USSR. Same way India and other non-aligned nations will play great role in future same as they are reshaping the world now.

Diego Garcia was stolen from Mauritius by the British who then lease it to the US. The UN court recently reject UK claim to Chagos Islands (Diego Garcia) in favour of Mauritius. But there is no chance of UK and US returning the atoll back to Mauritius.

That's very true. The US and the UK are hell bent on keeping these CHAGOS ISLANDS for military purposes primarily and waste disposal as a secondary objective. There's really no need to be partners with the US because, you won't be treated any better than their enemies except for their younger brother[the UK].

The UK is currently talking to Mauritius, about the return of the entire Chagos Archipelago, including Diego Garcia, back to Mauritius' Sovereignty.

Diego Garcia serves more than just to monitor India. That's a UK island I believe rented/occupied by a highly classified US military base, to monitor Middle East and those oil rich countries. There's a well covered up theory that the Malaysian airline that disappeared and has not been found had a pilot that had practiced landing approach at Diego Garcia (the simulation software is a specialty software that ordinary people can't buy) and was thought he was going to crash the airplane on that island. The theory continued to say that the airplane was intentionally shot down by the US or the UK based on the perceived threat and the US had the Australian volunteered to steer the search party away from Diego Garcia to give time for the US and UK navy to sweep and clean up any potential evidence from the fallen debris in the Diego Garcia vicinity. There’s sporadic findings of that exact airplane’s components washed ashore onto islands in the ocean currents from that island. There were also eyewitness account from islanders saying they saw fireball-like objects crashing into the ocean, implying an airplane on fire.

Hey Amit, this is far from a "Secret US Military" base. In January 1971, U.S. Navy Seabees were transported to the island by landing ship to begin building the U.S. military presence on Diego Garcia. Today Diego Garcia is home to 15 separate commands, including the U.S. Navy Support Facility, which functions as the host command.

I was a Navy Seabee who served three deployments to Diego Garcia (1976-1979). Built the runway extension, parking aprons and taxiways. Quite a project since everything material was imported.

I have been familiar with Diego Garcia now for some 10 or more years; there's a video done by Christianne Amanpour about Diego Garcia when she was much younger and she highlighted much of what you said here in addition to the case taken out by the Chogossian people in the British High Court to have this island repatriated to their people. There is also a more comprehensive video done by the Australian investigative journalist John Pilger and both those videos are here on YT.
The Chogossians won the case but the US bluntly refused to hand back over the island; talk about downright criminal abuse. The US and the UK have to be punished severely for the crimes they have perpetrated against humanity. There is no other country on planet earth that comes close to US and UK war crimes and crimes against humanity.

@@vivienmartin9661 UK owed the US huge amounts post WW2 and they were struggling JUST with interest payments.... Part of US debt forgiveness program was the US to 'inherit' UK territories, colonial networks and to help integrate US institutions in their colonies/former colonies.
The UK basically sold their empire for example CIA then had ownership of preexisting British established intelligence networks and assets in Egypt, US companies got access to global mining operations from companies like British australian company Rio tinto and they got access to British military networks like Pakistan, Turkey as well as being able to FULLY establish their Monroe doctrine by taking oversight for the Carribbean.
France was the only country not to sell their overseas empire they were lucky because their most significant and lucrative holdings were in Africa where the US didn't have an interest and they were crucial for the US as mainland European power that could be responsible and capable for the post war rebuild of Europe.
This meant France held onto to their lucrative African holdings which was and is the backbone of the French economy. They held onto their s.american holding (french Guiana) which DOUBLED the size of the EU's fishing territory. Their Asian holdings which made them essential in global commerce but which eventually caused the Vietnam war and not to mention their littany of islands across the Pacific which were crucial for nuclear testing and naval exercises.

I know that the UK did not finish paying their lend lease loans until ~ 2006 and that George Soros broke the UK pound stirling in 1992 or thereabouts. I am fully cognizant of the activities of the World Bank/IMF wrt SAPs (Structural Adjustment Programs) in "third world countries" but did not realize how complicit the UK was. Merci

Forward basing for the US Navy is good for everyone in that region except the Chinese and, notionally, the Russians. (I say "notionally" because at this point there will not be a Russian navy worth a damn to worry about). Hostile intentions towards India on behalf of the US is something I see Indians online speak about pretty frequently. I don't know why. We have no reason to quarrel that I know of except trade stuff.

Why
I have known this island (atoll) since 2014 due to one of the theories on the missing MH370. The theory mentioned that the aeroplane maker (Boeing) self flew the plane from its intended location in China all the way to this atoll hence why the radar scanned the plane went through the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and lost from the radar forever after that. The debris found in the Indian Ocean towards Australia is why I think the plane actually landed at the atoll and all passengers have been erased forever.

There was a theory that a black market trade involving China and a Middle East country on certain data / parts which they have acquired during the US military occupation in the Middle East region. The seller went through a far than normal route to send the package to the buyer in China through Malaysia. They found out about this and thwarted the trade. The US Navy base at Diego Garcia is well known and has been present for decades. It is a base for intermediate repair and maintenance of submarines. The presence of an Ohio class submarine there isn’t all that unusual.

Currently, for example Albania entered NATO, while Kosova gained independence, while the USA built a big military base in it - Bondsteel - and at the same time to the albanian population in Albania it was sold a lie, of the "route of the nation" the big highway from Durres to Kukës that was build soon after to "connect the 2 albanian nations" while in reality the highway was build for US strategic interests, to have a fast route from Mediterranean sea (Durrës) to Kukës and then Kosova, so that they could get fast access to their base. This interpretation of facts only came to my mind recently, because as An Albanian myself, I always thought of these events in patriotic terms... but reality it seems is more cynical.
