    I hate to keep leaving basically the same comment, but yep. I agree with all of this. I still can't comprehend how they went into a new Star Wars trilogy without the plan to have Luke, Leia, and Han on screen together. I don't see how that's something you choose to *not* do. It literally makes no sense. Such wasted potential. As far as TROS is concerned, it barely even feels like a movie to me. It just feels like a mess of random, terribly executed, scenes. That's all it is to me.

    I will never forgive Disney, KK, Bob Iger, RJ and JJ for not having a single scene of Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca and Lando; even Admiral Ackbar death was consequential and wasted.

      It’s no different than if they made Back to the Future 4 and Doc and Marty did not have one scene together either. Mind boggling.

    Great breakdown series. There really is something wrong in almost every scene, never mind the overall series problems you detailed. The Last Jedi was a mess but Rise of Skywalker felt like it just gave up on making the Star Wars universe interesting. Also, I did write a screenplay for an alternate episode 9. So if you have the time or interest, the video is uploaded on my CZcams, a text version pdf is in the video description.

    Yeah with Palpatine not stopping the lightning, Count Dooku was far more intelligent. He shot a bit at Obi won but he deflected it easily, so Dooku just up and beats his ass

    19:18 I can forgive the similarities between the Lando ship-reveal scene and the portal scene in Endgame because the whole trope of the battle seeing lost but help arriving is a common thing in storytelling.
    That said, "I am all the Sith...and I am all the Jedi" is one of the worst moments in any film I have ever seen.

    Ey. Do not compare the ending of VI with this movie. It is not fare. Even having still to face the rest of the empire, destroying the superweapon again, with the Emperor, Vader and a portion of their fleet is something worldly of celebration in an universe with some logic where actions mattered.
    Not like this. Here they celebrate their forced victory over a copy/paste fleet that came from the ass of a Palpatine that shouldn't be there, while the First Order, already hiperpowerful for no reason, fall prey for a sudden, script induced, rebellion, that remembers the death of Poochie in The Simpson.

    What do you mean no buildup? Didn't you watch the Fortnite special event where Palps tells everyone his galaxy takeover plan?
    In all seriousness, I haven't seen the film I've just watched the takedowns. I had no respect left for the sequel series just by watching IX's opening crawl alone.

    31:12 aparently the visual dictionary says that Lando's daughter was abducted by the first order, so had they put that in the movie, the interaction between him and Jana would have made sense...lol

    • @jayhartRIC
      @jayhartRIC Před 2 lety

      It still wouldn't have made sense cause there are thousands of First Order troops. Why would he assume she was his daughter? It came across more like he was flirting the first time I saw it lol.

    • @MetalSandman999
      @MetalSandman999 Před 2 lety

      @@jayhartRIC I think because I heard the daughter rumors I already had that in mind, since it didn't sound flirty to me 🤷‍♂️
      My guess is, since he knew Luke and Leia well, he probably just figured that's how it worked. Runs into random black woman who would be in the general age of his daughter, so it's like "I must have randomly run into my long-lost daughter" lol

  • @pfeilspitze
    @pfeilspitze Před 2 lety

    53:40 It's a cool idea, but I think they wrote themselves into a corner trying to put it in the main trilogy. They want to be able to treat the stormtroopers as faceless mooks so that we can cheer about killing them, but that's fundamentally at odds with trying to make them captured children. Even as early as TFA this started causing story friction, like Finn cheerfully shooting his fellow abductees in the escape.
    I think the right way to handle it would be to give it to someone as a side story. Like I hated TLJ, but imagine if Rian was given the "former stormtrooper perspective" movie. Then all the more subversive stuff would fit far better. It would be an appropriate place to mention the arms dealers selling to both sides. Or it could mention things like all the people they killed by blowing up the death star. Maybe they could even say like the rebels "caused" some of it, because the remnants of the empire needed to replace all the manpower somehow.
    And as a bonus, that would leave the main trilogy free to be proper hero's journey for Rey, instead of making the worst middle-of-a-trilogy movie ever. (Hopefully even the TLJ apologists can see that, even if they like the movie on its own, it's unambiguously bad *as a middle*.)

    At least Palpatine's return in the EU was handled well, and it served to explore and expand on Luke's character and powers. I've heard that Lucas decided to let the writers use him instead, when he refused to allow them to bring back Vader.
    Here, though, it was nothing but a lazy plot contrivance and nostalgia bait, very clumsily handled.
    P.S. How the F do you "jam a speeder"?

    30:09 I wouldn't say the celebrations and implication that the empire is defeated at the end of Return of the Jedi is a flaw. They didn't just destroy the Death Star. They destroyed the Death Star AND the emperor (or so we all thought...) AND Darth Vader AND probably many other imperial leaders. The empire formed with Palpatine; it's not like he was a king with kids and relatives to suceed him.
    And in the OT, there was only one empire, not two empires (Palpatine's secret regime and also the First Order).
    Communist regimes in real life have been overthrown with less destruction than what happened to the empire. Given that there had been a Republic within the lifetimes of most living adults at the time, and the Senate had even still existed until shortly before the events of Star Wars, setting up a Republic again would have been very feasible.

    You believe that crap lie by Abrams? Sinking in sand about to die so you decide then to tell someone that is sinking in the sand & about to die with you, that you are force sensitive? I don't think so. Get your head out of your ass. JJ Abrams lied to you all. He was going to tell Rey he loves her. Why do you think Finn was always screaming her name and running after her?
