  • Hi Everyone, in this video i go over what could have caused the damage on my JL AUDIO C7-650CW speaker on the right side front passenger door. all the door speakers are being powered by a JL Audio HD600/4 using a JL AUDIO TWK88. i did get a chance to make contact with a jl audio rep named Natassja Marin and i was successful in getting my RA number for the repair today January 4, 2022 at 3:35pm while recording this video. i will be packing the speaker carefully and shipping it out to them tomorrow via FEDEX with insurance. from here i will update you guys (when and if) i get an email by jl audio letting me know that they received the speaker. i will also track it my self just in case they don't, and start the count down once FEDEX lets me know it was delivered. its going to be interesting to see what they find out about how the speaker got damage, im curious my self, anyways i hope you enjoyed the video and my experience so far of what its like to own a pricey Full Active Audio system by JL AUDIO and whether having a full active system in your vehicle is the right choice for you or should you stick to passive crossover Audio System set ups instead? comment your opinion i want to talk to all of you guys in the comment section.

I was able to snag a pair of C5 650 components this month and I can't wait to install them. I talked to a JL rep and they said they're currently working on a C5 replacement, but I heard the "current" C5s in a demo and I loved the sound signature, so I didn't want to chance not liking the new ones

That's awesome!!!!! Yeah I heard from a rep that sold me the last pair of 3 way C5s they had at Car Toys via facebook From Somewhere in Navada that said a JL Sales tep said they were making a C6 model to replace the C5s but I'm not sure how well those C6s are going to sound. The C5s sound amazing and practically work well with all types of music. 😎👊

Nice setup bro! I love my c7. I also have a the 3 way setup. I'm using the dwk-88 DSP but I'm using an Audiocontrol lc-6.1200 amp to run mine. I run my c7-650 from 60hz to 700hz 24db with no issues. I think running it past 5k could of been a bit overkill on them tho.

@St. Pete Beach Charters hi yes I have!!!!!!! They have a really nice midbass sound to them, since they come with the Crossover over you should be good with a amp that can do 100 watts rms per channel. This will work great for those. As for pricing, yes I agree 100% the pandemic definitely caused a HUGE spike in pricing on speakers, amps, MDF, Acrylic, ABS and even Vinyl fabric. 😳

Hi sean, the doors have already been fully sound deadened. However, since im not sponsored by these deadening companies like the other youtubers that are in this field are, it took me some time to save another $1K for more Sound Deadener. As someone who's been in the field for a little more than 2 decades i know sound deadener makes a world of difference, in previous videos i made while doing this project i did install two different types of sound Deadener, knu konceptz and sound shield they both have their benefits, i explained the importance of having multiple layers of it to reduce noise and vibration as much as possible vs only using 1 layer and not really hearing the difference. this SQL project was quite expensive and from what ive been hearing, my system is out of most people's reach, i understand them 100% as it took me some time to complete it since i only have one income coming in and used credit cards irresponsibly 😅, i couldn't do it all in one hit. I also felt this crazy amount of pressure to rush the installation and get it playing for everyone who was interested in this build. As for the issue with the driver, yep, after the replacement was sent, i figured out the problem and worked on resolving it. Thank you very much for watching my video of this issue, i appreciate it a lot. 🙏🙇‍♂️

70hz at 24 db was on the recommended frequency range for the speakers on their site but yeah I'm gonna change it to 80hz as the lowest frequency I want to hear and the highest will most likely be where you are suggesting. 5k is the max they recommended which I have ready dropped it down, I'm gonna have to do the frequency response possibly by ear because though I have a USB mic and some software, it just gives me a starting point and if I'm happy with those results then I can leave the system As is but if it's not, then I gotta tweak it a bit to sound good to me. Only weird thing is that only 1 driver did this and Eric Cole From JL Audio did tell me that the range I chose was fine even though their specs said otherwise. Maybe that's why they sent me a new one as a replacement. I sent them all the email trail when I shipped the speaker in for repair. 🤷‍♂️ I do plan on getting the vxi amps so when I do that I'll be able to use their TuN 4.0 software for the amps to basically match the gain level as well as frequency response and go from there.
I appreciate your feedback though my man, any info is definitely helpful.

    Design Bandwidth:
    With 48 dB/octave filters: 50 Hz - 5 kHz
    With 24 dB/octave filters: 60 Hz - 5 kHz
With 12 dB/octave filters: 70 Hz - 5 kHz seen this on jl website I was under the impression that you should set the crossover at double the fs which on the c7 is 54.5 so about 110 hz is where I would start probably playing them to low or using to flat of a slope beautiful setup do you have a video show the complete setup. Why do you run the epicenter when you have a dsp ? I'm just learning about dsps.

    • @THEAVERAGEGUY1983
      @THEAVERAGEGUY1983  Před 2 lety +2

Yeah I was thinking about changing the frequency range. I figured 70 HZ to 20kHz wouldn't hurt them but it could have. I did run this set up over with Eric Cole and I sent him a screen shot from the laptop with all the frequency settings and he said I was good. 🤷‍♂️ good thing I saved the email just incase they tell me I did it all wrong I got the OK from one of their tech support reps. As for a video on the DSP set up. I got this one czcams.com/video/SsW8zX6l-Q8/video.html as for my I use an epicenter when I have a DSP that's because a DSP can't recreate Low Frequency that are not already part of a son. It can Boost the signal to sound Punchier on the subwoofer to make that frequency sound more present using the EQ built in but the epicenter lowers higher frequencies by an Octave so as a good example a 80 HZ tone will become a 40 HZ tone when the epicenter is engaged. In the link I sent you I have a excellent demo there showing what the epicenter does. I just apologize for the long video I did for that, however I do have Time stamps for that video so please skip to the demo song part. With headphones your system sounds really good though, but your scaring the hell out of me because I have a lot of C7s going in my build. I appreciate the honest reviews and I'm curious to see what JL does. I see almost everyone using the VXi 800.8s and bridging the rear 4 channels for the 6.5s. Several people tell me they love the power but I don't see how they're putting 200 watts on each driver. Let's see a video on those ZRZ800s

That's gonna be a beast of a system and your right! I've been watching alot of videos on the C7s my self to see if maybe I did something wrong which if I did I don't mind admitting but I have seen people using the Vxi amps or the XD amps with the TWK88s, I went with the HD amps because Eric Cole recommended them for these but yeah man I don't know how some are able to push 200 watts RMS when I'm overwhere having issues pushing 85 watts rms to them hahahaha. Maybe the Vxi amps will Definitely be the better choice but I'm gonna have to save up for that. JL Audio received the Speaker on Tuesday 1/11/2022 so I have no idea when they are going to start testing it and figuring out what went wrong. The other 3 C7 6.5" speakers are doing great! But for being concerned about the other speaker I just sent in, I'm going to lower down the frequency in the EQ which has been set to flat. Maybe of I lower the strength of the Low end of 70HZ I won't have to worry about having issues anymore. About the ZR800Cw's doing an unboxing on those would be a good idea but then bad because you can't find those anywhere anymore and I got mine brand new. I wrote down the date on the boxes 😅👍

They are playing too low you fed to too much power as well at those lower frequencies. It’s sad to hear you spent this kind of money and it gave you this problem. I had a similar issue this year with my cdt audio es06 woofer. One speaker was cracking soley due to defect but my tip is you should do like a 120hz minimum crossover for the low end and typically with like a -24db where on the parametric eq I see the speaker plays down until 40hz. My speakers have a frequency range of 10hz to 5k 🤣 fuck that jl Shit sorry to say brokski it’s over hyped I hope you guys all figure it out sooner than later man

Hi, apologies for the late reply, if you go with the C7s i highly recommend the VXi line of amps this way you can give them exactly the power they can handle and have a DSP built in so you dont have to worry about adding extra equipment to your ride. As for the rear doors of the 06 escalade they use 5.25" speakers but i believe that if you were to customize your bracket and also remove some of the plastic trim from the door panel its self you should be able to fit a 6.5". Crutchfield told me all i could fit on my flex were 5x7s or 5.25s with an adapter but i was able to fit 6.5s by making my own brackets. I can actually fit up to an 8 inch midbass driver on my front doors but i do have to slightly modify my door panel a bit to get it to fit and not rub. 😎👌

@MrLowrider3 if you are going with a 2 way Component set for your front doors and perhaps the rear doors, i would get a VX800/8i to power all the speakers. If you are going to do a 3 way set up in the front doors and A pillars, door speakers on the rear doors and lets say you do 2 speakers on each D pillar like i did on mine with the 3.5" and tweeters, i would get 2 VX800/8i amps and use channels 1 and 2 for the tweeters, channels 3 and 4 foe the midrange and channels 5+6 bridged to midbass speaker on the left amd channels 7+8 bridged to the midbass speaker on the right and do the same foe the rear, this way you will have some strong midbass on your doors and good clean sound coming out of your A pillr and D pillar speakers as dose dont require too much power to work well. In fact, my amps are too strong for my A-pillar and D-pillar speakers, and I wish i would have listened to myself instead of going with jl telling me to get the more expensive amps at the time lol. 150 watts rms is way too much headroom for those little tweeters and midrange speakers, lol. The doors can handle 85 watts rms with custom EQ settings to increase the bass. The less bass the door speakers have, the higher you can turn them up. Just make sure not to overpower then, or they will start making pop sounds.

Both two way and 3 way sound awesome! However please consider going with the VXi amps. Since it's a single cab truck, you can go with a VX1000/5i and use the 4 channels for a C7-650CW and C7-100CT and the 5th 600 watts rms channel for your subwoofer and that would be a kick ass sounding system for a truck like yours with Plenty of output. As for the TWK88s i Dont recommend them as they have some serious reliability problems that can cause problems to the drivers if ran exactly how jl audio wants you to run their DSP hardware, i do however want to swap these TWK88s eventually for the VXi amps as they use the same software which im very familiar with but from what Steve told me, the VXi amps have updated DSP hardware inside compared to the older TWK88s and D8 models. Like the subwoofer chart JL has with the green, yellow, orange, red and black zone where green is minimum power yellow and orange are Optimal power (recommended) power and red is pushing it to its continuous power rating and then the black zone being Peak RMS which equals warranty voided. At least that's how I'm starting to see this whole deal with their speakers hahahaha.

@mactaegooden4688 yep. It definitely had a manufacturing defect but a lot of people in the comments section gave their "professional advice" and said it was 100% my fault even though the other 3 speakers had the same frequency range and power output as thos speaker here. 😅 the system has been working well with the occasional DSP malfunctioning here and there.
