Florida has ~ 26k, Texas at 24k, and Washington State at 25k, with a population less than half that of Florida or Texas. California has over 170,000 out of 40 million people, far and away from the rest.

      @@THEREALVITO Sure, but a person visiting Florida, like me for example who goes around different sites there for work on occasion, experiences visually the same level of homelessness I see in California. I see tent villages under-freeways, beggars outside of 7-11s, and random people knocked out infront of office buildings. But, then I see something similar in DC and Baltimore, and at a much smaller group Northern Virginia where I'm based out of but it's growing. The only thing I don't see in Florida are refuge camps in border areas, which are unique to the south western states.
      It's a problem around the country, and I get the politics and use of hyperbolics in competition, but it's a disingenuous argument over "my state is better than yours" especially when you have no plan to even address it at home. It's genuinely stupid.

    No one ever brings up the climate of California when talking about homelessness. If there's anywhere you want to be homeless in the US, it's probably California just from a climate perspective. Hi, I've been a Californian my entire life and have been homeless a couple of times including 10 months in downtown LA....there is no evidence to back this claim up, tho it's a common myth. I lived in the biggest homeless population in the COUNTRY. people are NOT coming here to be homeless bc of the weather, at least not in any significant amount. The vast majority of homeless people here are FROM HERE, often within walking distance of where they lived before they were priced out. This myth is extremely harmful bc it contributes to the way the public sees homeless as outsiders just coming here to use up working Californians taxes. Then people use this lie to justify oppressing homeless people further.

    • @mischr13
      @mischr13 Před 5 měsíci

      Out of curiosity....Do people ever stop and wonder about the logistics of this? Homeless people in colder states are gonna leave what little support system/family they have, then move across country (with what money?), to the first or second most expensive state in the country (even if you're not paying rent, EVERYTHING is expensive...so again, with WHAT money?), just so you can go be corralled in a ghetto and get hunted by cops, serial killers, and rapists, just cuz it's warmer?? A lot of good it does us cuz people die in California after cold nights ALL. THE. TIME. I saw it with my own eyes. Sure, it doesn't usually freeze here, but it doesn't need to freeze to kill sick and elderly. I'm surprised you're saying "no one ever brings up the climate", cuz I have to fight against this myth EVERY time people talk about how many homeless are in California. Even Californians say it, which is ridiculous cuz we can literally go outside and ask our homeless neighbors. But no, cuz "ew gross, the poors"
