My Kubota B2601 compact tractor's third function controls stopped working. I found that the main power switch had broken and fallen apart. Cheap fix, right? Not so fast! Kubota sells this part for $186. I couldn't justify paying that much and didn't want to wait to order parts. So I fixed it myself. It may be temporary or it may just be permanent.

$ 186 does seem excessive for sure Ed. You have to be able to do little fixes like this, to keep working in some cases or save money. Thanks for sharing.
Right on!
Good work getting it done. The factory 3rd function on my L 2501 doesn’t have an on/off switch, it’s in all the time. So your fine
I had the same issue on my BX. The switch is mounted in the fender, so it took about 2 hours to replace it. No way was I going to pay for the entire harness. Had to do some tight solder work as well that was not fun. Next time I will follow your lead for sure. Thanks for sharing!!
Way to go Ed. I ALWAYS try and fix stuff FIRST too.
Most of the time it works out. 😊
Thanks for the videos Ed! I’ve finally joined the Kubota owners club. Yesterday I signed on an L4060LE and a host of implements. You and a few other CZcams creators that I watch have helped tremendously during my period of research preparing to make this purchase as a first time tractor buyer with no previous equipment experience. Now begins the longest two weeks of my life, waiting for the most expensive item I have ever (or probably will ever) purchased to be delivered.
Awesome! Congratulations! Two weeks is actually not bad at all, but I know it will feel like an eternity. Keep us posted!
Congrats on your new purchase, Bobby! A friend has the same tractor and he loves it. (And I'm jealous of it! 😉😄)
Good Afternoon Ed . That was a good Temp Fix. Solenoid valves don't like to be on all the time. I would go to Harbor freight and find a new switch and wire it in. Too bad Radio Shack is not longer around they would have something to make an inexpensive repair.
Prices for parts on small tractors tend to be very high. Knipex make great pliers, we have a few. It would be worth looking at parts of the switch closely looking for a part number as I expect you will find that the switch itself is made by someone else and cheaply available
Hi Joseph. I did actually find the switch online for $20. Not sure if I’d replace it with the same one or try something different. Thanks!
Good quick fix. Totally concur on Knipex. No tool box is complete without at least one piece.
You Are The Best Ed ( Full Watch !!! ) CHeers !!!
Thank you, David!
Same happened to mine. Luckily it was still under warranty. I found the same switch without the wiring harness online for less than $15. I was going to just replace the switch but out of stock everywhere. Poor design and ridiculous price for that. Take a look at what the u-bolt costs for the tool box bracket. C’mon Kubota. Only disadvantage without a switch is accidentally pressing buttons when not using a third function attachment. It will stop your primary function. Great quick video!
Thank you. I found the switch online too. I don’t think I would replace it with the same one. If I do replace it, it will probably be with something more robust.
Wow Ed, very nice save. I have to agree, some of the Kubota parts pricing is outrageous and they do not make any sense. Your switch is a prime example of their pricing issues. It is basically a $15 switch with a wiring harness and a connector.
Put some Scotch 33+ tape over the yellow tape I you will not even notice it has been repaired. Dan 😊
Haha! Thanks Dan. That may happen!
Nothing like a tractor to teach us how to fix things. Brilliant Stuff!
Right?!
That's good savings! Well done. Nothing wrong with an in-field repair.
Thank you, Ross!
I have never turned my 3rd function switch OFF since installed by the dealer a year ago.
Ed I don't think the fix shouldn't be a problem, My LX2620 doesn't have a switch, it is always on.
Oddly enough, the 3rd function on my b2301 (dealer installed) has no switch. I do find I blow the inline fuse (mine is wired from battery) when not using the grapple. I think that helps prevent any damage when dead heading the 3rd function. That is what I tell myself anyways when i have to replace a fuse. 😂
I know there’s a Kubota brand 3rd function and a Land Pride brand that’s different. Oddly, Kubota owns Land Pride. There are also other third-party manufacturers, so who knows what you have? 😄
My third function valve is on all the time Ed. Thinking you are golden.
Saweet!
Thanks for the video. Nice work around. It looked like the switch was pretty much intact, could you have just shoved it back in the housing and glued it into place?
Possibly!?
I wanted to replace the rubber boot around the axle joint on the front end and they said it wasn't a "user servicable part" and I would have to buy the whole assembly - at 75$ ( a couple years ago). Not paying that much for a piece of rubber.....
Ouch!
Good yankee engineering! I would have done exactly the same thing. Knipex tools are awesome, I have a pair in my tractor that I use to tighten the top link and side links. The smooth jaws don't scratch or chew up the screws either.
Thanks! 😄👍
Being on for a long period of time will burn that solenoid up and they aren't cheap. Don't ask me hod I know (My lesson learned the hard way) God bless take care
True, but the solenoid is not actually engaged until you press one of the two activation buttons. This switch is more of a power cut-off. Thanks!
Hello Ed. Thank you for this info. I am about a year or two behind you with our B2601, so I am guessing this issue is in my future. I will come back to this video when this issue finds me. I'm a big Kinpex fan too. Take care, Ben
Thanks Ben. According to the interwebs, you’ll likely have to deal with this issue. 😐
How's she goin'? Now that's how ya save $200!! Well done Ed! Take 'er easy!!
Thanks Mike! Imagine what the dealer would charge to install it too?!
@@MyClutteredGarage It would be scary!!
Good fix Ed . 👍
Thanks 👍
🎉🎉🎉🎉 I call that a WIN!!🎉🎉🎉🎉 nice work Ed!!👊🏻
Yes! Thank you!
Great Fix and beating the Man !
Nice detail in the making of the video 👍
Thanks Phil!
“Maybe I’ll come back and put an actual switch in there” ….. If you’re like me and you have it working, you’ll leave it until it stops working! Too many other things to do and worry about!
Yeah “temporary” can be pretty open ended 🤣
Good save Ed...nicely done!
Thanks Chris!
My front third function never had an off/on switch from new.
I just have open/closed buttons.
Iv only seen the power button on a 2680.
I've not had a moments trouble with mine being 'live' in over 250 hours.
Excellent!
Nice video. I leave my 3rd function on at all times.
Thanks for sharing!
Consider some type of switch Ed. Solenoids can sometimes dislike being powered all the time, particularly if they are not designed for continuous power. I’m sure a new solenoid coil will be pretty expensive too.
Thanks. But I don’t think the solenoid is actually engaged until you press one of the activation buttons to open or close the grapple. Personally, I think the switch is more of a safety feature so you can turn off the third function and not activate one of the operational switches. However, I may still replace the switch. 😄
Nice one brother! 😊
Thanks man!
I agree with you. I would never pay $200 for that dinky switch.
Don't you need to be able to turn off the switch so you can release the pressure in the lines for disconnection purposes.
No because you used the open and close functions for that. And for that, the switch would be on. Thanks for asking!
