- For some coffee lovers, a coffee cup should be covered with brown marks to signify your dedication to the bean. For others, it just means that you’re gross and incapable of doing the easy chore of washing a mug.
We have all seen that stained mug at our office or at our relative's house, but what if we told you that having a stained coffee mug is actually not as bad as you might assume?
We'll concede that an unwashed cup is definitely not pleasing to the eye, but here’s why some say you should never wash your coffee cup.

How often do you wash your coffee cup?
Mashed Every hour on the hour.
Mashed I don't drink Coffee-
I dont drink coffee why am i watching?
After I use it
+Mashed Every time I finish drinking coffee
Seems like having your own sponge might be the solution to this
max_agr I just wash by hand with a dribble of soap. Hate hate sponges that I can't sanitize.
max_agr I used paper towels and dish soap that was supplied in our office. I didn't want to take dirty dishes home, but I'd rewash them at home before taking them back to work.
Use the dish soap to wash the sponge. It is then as clean as the cup will be. The others in your office most likely have the same germs as you. Do you wear gloves and a mask, never touch your face bite you nails or shake hands?
If no one is carrying germs that make people sick then it does not matter if they get into your cup or your body.
At some point I expected a do-gooder "It'll save precious water" message. Good on you for not shaming us.
I don't drink coffee, I just came here to read the comments.
I don't either. Increases my risk of having GERD.
Isn't it absolutely amazing how stupid everybody else is! lol
don't shower too. its bad for you. listen to everything people say in the internet.
Wow how did you get in to the internet? Didn’t know that was possible
How about people start washing their hands after they take a crap. Where the hell else do they think it's coming from?
I wash my mug with dish soap and use a clean paper towel to scrub it.
And super hot water
Um no I will always wash my mug no thanks ...
vwsaiphone That's fine. You just do an unneeded step, lol.
People where do you think up these things!!! smh
Yeah I’m just going to continue to wash my coffee mugs thank you.
I didn't see one reason. Not everyone works in an office.
I work in the woods logging and use a stanley thermos. I wash it with soap every few weeks or so. I rinse it out with water daily. Myself I had never heard of this "seasoning" a coffee cup before, this is all new to me.
Might I add how clean is the coffee maker?
If coffee makers are not cleaned regularly the oils from the coffee becomes rancid and the coffee tastes sour
Definition of rancid
1: having an unpleasant smell or taste usually from chemical change or decomposition
rancid butter
rancid breath
I explained this to the owner of a local fast food joint. He explained it to the manager, No more sour coffee.
i guess its best to have a dark colored Mug if we go this route
nobody is going down this route, its another retarded video from Mashed
Yeah I’ll still wash mine thank you
Oh no no... I will always clean all my stuff.
Germs are good! exposure to many germs builds the immune system. A child brought up in a 99.99% germ free environment will tend to be harmful in the long run. You are not allowing the immune system to develop. I ate dirt & many other things as a child & gained the bad habit of chewing my nails, however I am very rarely sick. I'm 39 & can count on 1 hand the number of times I have been sick from a virus.
I'm retired now, but when I worked I always used hot water, dish soap, and paper towels to wash and dry my cup, glass, or any good containers I'd brought from home. If I left any dishes at the office I always locked them up in my desk drawer.
I never wash my coffee cup or the spoon in it, the spoon turns gold after about 8 months then brown after a year but stays gold when you clean the brown off.
That color is dried coffee. Food for bacteria. The same thing happens to teeth and dentures if you don't clean them. This coffee left on your spoon rots over time, yummy.
I used one of those metal travel mugs and didn't wash the inside for 5 months of use. It was so stained from coffee, it was black as coffee itself.
I clean it every 5-6 months. Pour in baking soda and vinegar and scrub hard and it looks as good as new. Sometimes people freak out when they see your mug looking as black as space. However you get the taste of metal in the coffee again.
There’s fecal matter on your phone, remote control, steering wheel, etc. what’s the big deal? Enhance your immune system lol
Yea, we might as well just poop into our hands and rub it all over ourselves. Oh wait, that's what they do on the other side of the interweb.
It is in the air you breath so is fecal matter from every animal that craps outside. Fecal matter harmful unless it enters the blood stream or mucus membranes. The fecal matter isn't harmful but some germs that live there can be.
More good news for all the germaphobes out there. Every time you flush your toilet some of the water and anything in ends up on the floor and in the air. Most of the germs found on or in your body don't cause disease or you would already be sick. The greater the variety of germs you are exposed to the greater the strength of your immune system.
Your body has antibodies for basically everything. It just depends on how fast your body reacts. There is literally no benefit to having more germs in or around you. And if you don't wash yourself or possessions that you touch with your hands, you *will* get a yeast or other kind of infection in your armpits, eyes, nose or something else. You really don't want to get something like epydidimitis or epydidim-orchitis. Just wash stuff, it's good for you. Biggest thing you'll have to worry about then, is pretty much just cleaning supplies.
Speak for yourself.
I just quick rinse my cup with water after use I don't mind a little stain look
A really good reason not to thoroughly wash your mug is that soap residue (and, yes, you cannot _fully_ wash suds off) actually gives drinks like coffee or tea a really horrid taste; if you drink either of these plain, rinsing the cup vigorously (making sure the exterior and top parts are as clean as you can get them with just water and rubbing by hand) is actually a pretty good solution, as long as you follow the rest of these pieces of advice.
So it doesn't matter. You have soap residue on the rest of your dishes anyway. Prove this, (and, yes, you cannot fully wash suds off) Sounds like something you made up. Give links to clinical studies please.
“As shown in Fig. 7, the peak height at 330.30 nm was correlated with the soaking time of the detergent. The peak intensity decreased with the increasing of the rinsing time. When rinsing for 16 minutes, the amount of water used for flushing was about 21.6 L, at this time the spectral peak
at 330.30 nm was very weak whose intensity was about 194.48, which indicated that there was still a small amount of detergent on the porcelain dish. Therefore, when using detergent to clean tableware, adequate amount of water should be ensured in order to reduce detergent residues.”
Fig. 6 and 7 showcase that it takes _16 minutes_ of rinsing to reduce the amount of detergent residue down to 35.4 μg/cm² from the original 70.8×10³ μg/cm², which means it took that long to reduce the film of detergent on the plateware a two-thousandfold, yes, but not eliminate it. Moreover, it took 7 minutes from the start to reduce the reside to 70.8 μg/cm², i.e. by 3 orders of magnitude, but still leaving residue. Note that it took 9 more minutes to reduce just by half!
@@zdcyclops1lickley190 P.S.: By the way, _why on earth did you ask for clinical studies!?_ Those are called for only in specific kinds of subjects, such as testing new drugs, not on every scientific subject...
Ask the US Navy. Sailors famously never washed their cups and we lived on caffeine.
I got extra duty for washing a CPO’s coffee mug in the USN. Never wash a personal coffee mug if you join the Navy!
Yeah I found this out in the Marines as well. Washed out my Gunny’s mug when I cleaned his office and he lost his mind
Yeah i used to not wash my mug and I thought the office coffee was bad. Then I started washing my mug and the coffee tasted much better after that. And I’ve always drank it black so it wasn’t bc of any creamer or sugar. At the very least I rinse it with scalding hot warter everyday.
Yeah... I'm "guilty" of never washing my coffee mug... I just hose it out w/ hot water in the morning and fill it up. Only got sick from it twice that I can remember... it suxx when you're projectile vomiting coffee through your nose, though!
I'm that dude who brings his own sponge
This video has lowered the overall happiness of the world
As a Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy....I can attest to "The Navy Excuse"!!!
Paper Cups... NO DISCUSSION!

I like to use soapy water and bleach to clean my coffee mug...
Why would you not want to wash your mug after watching this video??? I cannot stand it when I don't wash my stuff.
"BOVINE FECES BUDDY!"

Michele Theriault LMAO... would you like a poem? 😁😉
or just microwave your cup
Research has found mixed results on whether a microwave can effectively kill germs on a sponge, or even in food.
This is stupid. By that logic, I don't have to wash my dishes at home, since they're all my germs anyway.
No, the food you eat isn't germ free. Some germs are air born as are many vectors such as insects or dust.
The germs are low in concentration and your immune system handles them. If your dishes are never washed you eat decaying food that has a higher amount of bacteria and more types which have evolved into new strains.
My wife doesn't wash hers. NASTY smell NASTY taste. Completely ruins a good cup of coffee.
You 're talking about her cup, right?
Not a problem if you use disposable paper or plastic cups !
COFFEVE
Gross!
Please tell everyone not have a bath and not to wash anything for a life time please suggest everyone so that we can save water

Why even shower...it’s so dumb!
pacman drone To be fair, you're accurate. We kind of went a long time as a species without needing to shower.
