Same thing with the plasma rifle
Even just short of molten Tungsten isn't going to penetrate armor at 76 mps. Gravitic weaponry is interesting nonetheless. You would think if they can a gravity wave emitter small enough and powerful for an infantry weapon that gravity grenades would follow. A grenade causing a low G wave followed rapidly by an explosive, while un-necessary you could add shrapnel if wanted.

About the same fps from a compound bow assuming the spikes are pretty heavy it's likely imparting more kinetic energy than a 44 magnum round less speed and more weight from a projectile

@@AKlover going off how big the spikes are in game and the live action film scenes I would say that's a good possibility also considering the size of the brutes and that the weapon was designed for them to kill each other with why wouldnt the rounds weigh a lot?
Tungsten is pretty damn dense. Just doing a quick calculation, a .5" (12.7mm) diameter and 12" long piece of tungsten is 1.44lbs.
Now basing off of the Landfall videos those appear to be close to an inch diameter and about a foot long so, if say its 7/8" (.875) diameter and a foot long, one spike could weigh about 4.431lbs.
However the magazine doesn't appear to be much longer than say 8", so figure its elongated by ~3" and keeps the same .875" diameter, it still weighs in at just a shade under 3lbs or 2.954lbs. But if that were the case, each magazine that holds say 40 rounds would weigh 120lbs each. That's about a standard load out for a combat troop maybe a but more.
I'd wager each round is probably closer to .250" and 8" long which is .241 per round and 9lbs per 40 round magazine. That still doesn't make much sense. If overall weight with a loaded magazine is 19 or so lbs, each round would have to be .125" or 1/8" diameter at 8" in length to at least get to be 2.4lbs per 40 round magazine.
Should be easy to calculate the muzzle energy and penetration potential based the velocity and assumed projectile weight (loaded vs unloaded weight). I'm guessing based on a mv of less than 300fps, this thing would bounce off any armor, but be pretty good against unarmored targets.

The Spiker kinda reminds me of the rifles issued to civilian conscripts during the fall of Nazi Germany, or even the AK-47 in how it’s ugly, crudely-made/looks like it was made from scrap metal being bent and welded together by someone who doesn’t have a clue what they’re doing, but somehow it’s still functional.

Part of Halo 3’s live action ad campaign, featuring interviews with numerous veterans who fought alongside Chief.
That particular clip took place in the “museum of humanity”, which memorialized the weaponry of the human-covenant war.
Imagine dual wielding these and swinging them as melee weapons in CQC.

One of my favorite guns, just shoot and bash, rugged and simple... I always like to think my spartan always carries one!
I think to archive the armor penetration and power seen in the games, the projectiles would have to move much faster. I'd say at least 250 m/s, but probably more. Heat is only useful in penetration at very high temperatures, where all materials either liquify or combust.

The Banished Spikers look more like Cross Bows than what the Jirilhanne in the Covenant were using.
I wouldn't bother with the sound proofing. Just rig up something to block sound from the windows with old towels and shove something under the door if you have hardwood floors.

They had always used them. It wasn't til 2552, Brutes were more in mass from shock troopers to frontline troops. Thus seeing thier weaponry more in use from our perspective.

Considering what this weapon uses as ammunition I felt like it should have down more damage in multiplayer to the point of it being classified as as power/heavy weapon. Giant metal spiked like projectiles can do alot damage to power armor let alone bare flesh.
