      Donna King My people? Lmao I'm Asian, son, now you sound just ignorant; passing the buck to a different skin tone? And although I do agree that racism exists to an extent in form of systematic institutionalization, I don't think every black person should be released and compensated. Whose to say that half of those people are actual bums and will relapse into their old habits again when they're out on the streets? It's ridiculous that more black people are arrested than whites, but you have to take into consideration that those black "convicts" are from poor areas where crime is rampant; a majority of white dealers don't deal in those type of neighborhoods and avoid detection from cops altogether. Yeah, our country is a bit fucked up, but it's a bit lazy to blame whites for everything when you should be blaming the government. There are POC in the government too, you know.

    It makes me mad that they said "This isn't supposed to happen to you, you have money and a nice house" Just because you have money and a big house doesn't mean your life will be perfect and it doesn't mean that just because someone doesn't have money or a nice house that its "acceptable" to be a drug addict

    I'm a recovering heroin addict and been sober for a little over 3 years. Getting and staying sober was THE hardest thing I have ever done in my life. It was harder than Basic Training and even my two deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. I destroyed friendships and family relations, though I am slowly getting everyones trust back. The thing that helped me the most was moving away. I was raised and lived in Portland, Oregon all my life. I left EVERYTHING behind and moved down to LA. It was the best decision I have ever made. You can attend all the meetings, work the steps, go to rehab, work with sponsors, etc. but if you go back to your using grounds you're going to relapse. PERIOD. There's no way you can stay sober when you're close by to your "friends", dealers, hang out spots, etc. If there's anyone reading this who is going through heroin addiction or any addiction, MOVE RIGHT AWAY. I know it sucks to move away from family and friends but this is your life we're talking about. YOUR LIFE.

      I have watched my 16 year old son start "just" smoking weed, then he was smoking weed from the time he got up until he went to bed, then he said the weed gave him anxiety so he started taking xanax, then he went to percocets. Once on the percocets it was ALL OVER!! Now, he does heroin, percocet, norco, morphine, pretty much whatever he can get. I used to be a HUGE defender of marijuana, NOT any more. The people today don't smoke "recreationaly", they are fucking weed head ZOMBIES. I am a person that believes in freedom of liberty, meaning if you want to do heroin or smoke weed or drink beer, it is your body and you can do as you please. We all make our own choices, BUT only an ignorant fool would not see that weed is NOT this harmless drug that has NO repercussions. It is absolutely addictive in nature, it is absolutely a gateway to harder drugs, and it makes the users into stoned out lazy ass unmotivated lying zombies.

    "I dont look like a heroin addict".....that is the most ridiculous statement ive ever heard in my life. Heroin dosent discriminate when it comes to looks. I would know...I am a recovering heroin addict. I used heroin for six years straight. Ppl used to say to me...."you dont look like a heroin addict"....and then I would take my jacket off or pull my sleeves up and say...."ok, how about now"....ive been clean for 12 years and looks wise...I still look the same as I did while using. Not every drug addict has rotting teeth and lesions all over their face.

      I was put on an MMT program. (Alot of ppl really wouldnt consider me "clean" but, I do bc im not using heroin any more, I dont live the same risky lifestyle as I did back then. I am just your normal stay at home mom, not a street walking junkie like I was 12 years ago)

    • @ajimenez1719ify
      @ajimenez1719ify Před 9 lety +9

      Let me just add that, I really dont recommend methadone programs (MMT) as a good rehab. Its only supposed to be used as a last resort. I had already been to rehab seven times before I was put on the program by a judge. Heroin is one of the hardest things to kick, and so many ppl never get the chance. Most overdose and die before they get a really good shot at recovery. No matter what program path is chosen, it is still going to be a very long and hard process. It takes will power that ppl dont even realize they were capable of having. In the beginning of my recovery, I would just sit there and grit my teeth bc I was having such a hard time. I never really thought I would amount to anything other than a heroin junkie. But, it got easier and easier as the time passed that I wasnt using it. My tracks started to heal up, and the cravings got less and less. I very rarely think about using heroin now, and the few times that I do think about it, I just get pissed off bc I let something so stupid ruin my life.

      @MediaLies2012 Před 9 lety +1

      Andrea Jimenez Andrea why do you think people that can notice and admit to heroin turning their life and health for the worse lack any willpower to try to change. Some wont even make the effort when given multiple chances as you stated. Addiction of any kind is not welcome. I am happy for your recovery and I am glad you have come back to the side of the living. For those who are still heroin addicts and are reading this ..there is no future in heroin only misery and death..You must rise above your addiction or die a slow death. There is no other outcome

    • @ajimenez1719ify
      @ajimenez1719ify Před 9 lety +6

      MediaLies2012 you are right, heroin will bring nothing but misery. Some just havent hit rock bottom yet, and still feel that they can use heroin while maintaining a normal life. I can, with 100% certainty, say that it is not possible. It takes some ppl longer than others to wake up and realize that they have destroyed themselves. Some will never realize it at all, and they will die using. Its a shame.

      The majority of heroin and fentanyl addicts are white. I am not saying that any other race cannot succumb to this drug, but it sure seems to be predominantly white. Now, they have narcan, and these addicts know that they can get as high as they want. In fact, the more dangerous the drug; the more they chase it. I personally think after saving them 3 times and offering help to get them off the drug, they should just let them kill themselves. I know this is harsh, but that is honestly how I feel, and I know many many people feel the same. Oh, and I am white, by the way.

    I hate people that have never suffered addiction talk about addiction. The whole, "With just one hit, you could be hooked". Thats such an untrue statement. That is the equivalent to saying, "With just one bite into a donut, you could be hooked" since sugar is as addicting as cocaine. Being a former addict, you can't just do something once and get addicted. Thats not how it works. I've never done heroin, but I've known many people that have tried heroin, and surprisingly, none of them got hooked. Of course there are some people that do. But thats more because of Mental illness. I went to rehab, and EVERYONE there, including myself, has a certain mental disorder. These are diagnosis that are given to them before drugs became a part of their life. Its not a coincidence. Most people that are addicted to drugs have, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, constant depression, extreme anxiety, delusions. Making it harder for these people to part with drugs because their mental illness has intensified. Instead of the bullshit, "War on Drugs" maybe America should wage a war against Mental illness since time and time again it has constantly ignored its existence. Fuck this ABC guy, he doesn't know shit.

      Completely agreed. We can't truly address these issues because then we'd have to actually look at our government, society, economy, media etc etc. Mental illness is the least of people's worries because it keeps people spending or consuming... anything from prescription pills, food, clothes or property. Mental illness kills but not before it profits sadly.

      Ur not chemically hooked but u get an overwhelming sense of euphoria that's pretty addicting. Like sex addicts. Sex itself isn't addicting. It's the endorphins u get when u orgasm that makes u want to keep doing it.
      Same with gambling addiction, the euphoria or rush u get is the same as actually the same when u orgasm or take a hit of heroin. While heroin has chemicals that bind to the mu receptor and cross the blood brain barrier which make it a little different.
      It's the euphoria that's addicting at first. After about 7-14 days of straight and consistent use does it become potentially physically addicting. Making ur body go thru withdrawal (withdrawal is from ur body not producing the natural chemicals that opiates enhance and ur body doesn't know how to make those endorphins without the opiates anymore).
      To say u can get hooked after one hit is misleading. Just after 1 welfare check, u could get hooked. Their will always be that middle upper class picture perfect teen that trys drugs and doesnt want to stop. Epidemic... I think not. There are more ppl on this earth than ever before. Hell we grew like 4 billion in about 100 years so statistically, yeah there will be more numbers of teens using drugs.
      I love national television BS about drugs tho. Fear mongering words of fire and brimstone and how fucked up the world is. I guarantee u they ended the news with some feel good "fireman saves kitten from fire" story to trick the audience they watched some positive news when 99% of it was filled with "is ur neighbor a murderer?" Or "ur teens are all drug addicts" or "cats are causing squirrel genocide and becoming the next Nazi's!" stories.

When black and brown ppl's neighborhoods were IMPLANTED with drugs by the white government, the white public response lacked empathy and they felt we should be locked away. +Eden Grey Addiction is not a CHOICE. It is not a moral issue, many people see it as such, & that is the PROBLEM, not the solution, or it would be solved! ADDICTION IS A DISEASE AS DEFINED BY BOTH THE MEDICAL AND PSYCHIATRIC COMMUNITIES. It is not debatable, so continue with your ignorant beliefs & feeling superior to a sick person, that makes you just as sick as a junkie, IGNORANCE KILLS.

    • @gymnast2890
      @gymnast2890 Před 8 lety

      +Brad Younger Actually, drug use initially went down due to scare tactics/propaganda like "one time & you're hooked" (which is just stupid) with young people, then they figured out it was 90% lies, & drug use among young people rose to much higher than it was prior to the "war on drugs". How do you have a war on a inanimate object? They should call it what it is, a war on addicts, a war on sick people who need help. In countries where they've taken a harm reduction approach (such as Switzerland), the rate of addiction plummeted. They have one of the lowest drug use rates in the World. As well as the lowest blood born disease rate, such as AIDS. Why can't we learn from them? It's illegal in my State to HAVE a harm reduction program! The thinking is it will allow/encourage/endorse drugs. This goes back to the antiquated thinking that addiction is a CHOICE, in the face of all medical & psychiatric definitions that it's a DISEASE. The ignorance on this matter drives me crazy, it's so persistent!! Good point about it morally (& legally as well), your body & not a matter of law, unless some other law is broken.

    • @gymnast2890
      @gymnast2890 Před 8 lety

      +Eden Grey If you were at educated, you would know the answer to that. The propaganda/lies/scare tactics worked for a very short time, then backfired big time. More young people tried/have done drugs since the '60's following the "war on drugs". If you had half a brain, you would realize you can't have a war on an inanimate object, & a war against people with a disease is the ultimate stupidity. Since 2/3 of addicts were abused in childhood, having a war against people that are already traumatized is inhumane as well as IGNORANT. So don't comment any more, I don't have time to keep trying to educate the ignorant, although that is my job. Questions like "How do you know things are worse since the war on drugs?" prove you have no business arguing this matter, I strongly suggest you educate yourself before making an even bigger ass of yourself than you already have (if possible).

    I've lost a cousin to this drug years ago , and from that day I pledged to never experiment with drugs , as I saw what it did to him and everything he and my family went through with heroin . A 13 year addiction ended with a battle that can't be won .
    I myself am 19 now , and when I was in highschool (Average middle class public school) opioids became a huge option of high for many of the people I went to school with . First it was weed , then it was xanies or Bars and after that for the few unlucky few it was heroin . I had a close friend of mine as well get hooked on the drug for about years time . He is clean now and I pray everyday he can stay clean throughout the rest of my life . This is the worst thing on this earth and wouldn't wish this addiction on anyone . Rest in peace Jamie you are now at peace with your life long battle

    We need to start questioning everything about drugs and addiction. Most of what we claim to know is not based scientific research but rather we are guessing at it. It is based on revelation of people who claim themselves to be authorities on the subject.
    If we knew what we are doing the solution would be obvious. The outcome in rehab are horrendously poor. More than 90% relapse. And what is worst the patients are blamed. No other field of medicine does that. Most rehab do the opposite of what is expected in science.

    I just think that most people do know how addictive it is, heroin that is...so...why even try it? I actually have, however, I researched enough to know that if you do it for more than 3 days in a row, you then become addicted physically and you THINK you need it, but you really DO NOT. It is beatable. I know people who were hell bent on it and they managed to beat that addiction. I say now..the hell with them if they choose to be addicted because most of us know that there is a way out, there is ALWAYS a WAY OUT! First of all, don't be stupid enough to keep doing it. Everyone experiments perhaps with certain things but some take it beyond the experimentation stage and embrace it wholly. I have little sympathy, truly. It doesn't much matter if someone chooses to do this drug and wreak their havoc on those around them then they deserve to OD and go away. Sorry if this opinion might upset someone, but like I said...I have no sympathy.

    Family plays a big roll in every decision a kid makes, when your family gives you support (not economical support) I am talking about Love, the fact that they care, be present in your kids life, always talk to them about how bad drugs are and how life can turn into nothing if you go there.
