    As a recovered narcotic painkiller addict I really feel deeply for anyone still on pills or heroin. The withdrawal is absolute torture and goes on for as much as 2 weeks. Most "rehab" centers simply keep you for maybe a week, give you BP meds and other stuff that really doesn't help, and then put you back out on the street. Sadly, it took 6 months in prison to get me clean, and if we had a more effective rehab system maybe I could have quit. 1/1

When I came off 80mg methadone a day, it took 3 months just to eat more than a tin of soup a month and get more than maybe 24 hours of nightmares a month, whilst filling bowl after bowl with stomach bial. 2 weeks would’ve been easy AF. Thank God I had the willpower to get through it. Especially given I was under 21 years of age.

If you want to quit desperately enough, you will. I proved this to myself without doing any rehab. Just the hard grind of being unwell, not sleeping or eating, etc. It was worth it. Missing a vein and going intramuscular can BOTH cause abscesses. I’ve treated patients with them many times...think about it...either way you’re not in the vein. Also I’ve treated patients that have hit arteries that create massive abscesses...it’s awful when the abscesses are so big that we have to cut them open to drain them into a 5 gallon biohazard bin...the infection smells and look disgusting. Also, most people who shoot clean pharmaceutical opiates usually don’t get an abscess if they miss a vein. You get abscesses from street heroin usually only because of the junk it’s been cut with, not from the actual heroin portion of it. It’s the cut that dealers put in it that makes it so prone to abscesses.

    • @mr.anonymous5501
      @mr.anonymous5501 Před 3 lety

      @@mandyjuelz The difference between going into the muscle purposely, and missing a vein, is that the missed shot can end up in the subcutaneous layer, which causes problems. Yes, injecting junk into a muscle can cause an absess, but it carries less risk than a missed shot. Particularly, as you say, if a missed shot ends up in an artery, which can lead to heart attacks, strokes, tissue necrosis, gangrene, ect, which results in amputation.

    I was forced into recovery, and as of today have relapsed a number of times, without (through GODS grace) any real withdrawl symptoms yet. That is the driving force behind most heroin addicts. The refusal to be sick from this distgusting drug. I wish alot more people would recognize this as a disease, and show people how to get the proper help they need.

    You're right, I used marijuana once or twice in high school and it wasn't my thing. I would say the majority of people who use heroin don't smoke cannabis.
    My addiction started after my wisdom teeth came out, I loved the pain killers they put me on and I continued to buy them after I didn't need them. I eventually started using oxycodone, became addicted and went to heroin.

    1) The liver damage you're talking about isn't induced by the pharmaceutical grade diamorphine, but in part from dirty street heroin, the participants had used before entering the programme and which some keep using as well as alcohol. And to make matters more complicated, many of them are polytoxes.
    2) Liver damage associated with other medical opiates do rather stem from paracetamol and other secondary painkillers that are sometimes mixed into the formulations.

    Heroin must be really hard to quit cause it's an opiate so the withdrawal must be an extremely unpleasant thing to go through. I really keep my fingers crossed for people who happen to find themselves in this situation and decide to stop using.

And its really a life or death matter for you well guess what its probably just as if not more expensive to get these people treatment which is actual life or death for them and not all addicts are bad people in fact most have been hobbled by addiction making them some of the most empathetic least judgemental and understanding people in our society once they get clean
