    The Def Leppard album cover is a variation of "All Is Vanity" by Charles Allan Gilbert. My late Grand Mother had that picture hanging in her bedroom. As a kid I remember the day I realized that the mirror was a skull, it freaked me out.

    • @jenx5870
      @jenx5870 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@paisleybabeeI was born in '72, so I was a child/teen when Loverboy was popular. I never owned the Get Lucky album, so I never really looked at the cover that closely, but I liked quite a few of their songs off of a few different albums. Now that I look at the cover, I don't see that the male model is groping her. He is resting his hand on her lower back, and it is the back side of his arm - not like he is grabbing her ass. I think it's far more appalling that the father thought it was appropriate to use his 13 yr old daughter as the butt model to begin with. Surely, there was a male model he could have used? Or a different, older female model? I just don't see any groping involved. I do feel a bit bad for any young girls or women who looked at the cover longingly and thought about how cute the guy's butt looked, though, now that the truth is out. They must feel really creeped out now, knowing they were gawking at a 13 yr old girl's backside. Ewww.

    Above my laptop screen as I type this is a pair of Somewhere In Time records placed spine to spine to show the front and back at the same time, framed and hung on my wall. I love looking at this as I have marveled at this cover since it came out. One funny bit is in the store behind the band members and Eddie, where a banner reads in reverse: "This is a very boring painting." Derek Riggs noted that this painting just about drove him nuts when he was making it, and how subsequent commissions were much simpler by design.

    This is a classic example of why streaming, while convenient, sucks. With the introduction of the CD the time and effort on album art has pretty much been forgotten. If you get a chance, check out the documentary "Squaring the Circle (Story of Hipgnosis)".

      Bravo! Wish You Were Here, in my opinion, is the "King" of secret Easter eggs in the sleeve art albums. Total respect to you for mentioning it here. Although, (again, just my opinion), I don't think it's a scarf, but rather a small balloon, which was "rigged" to "burst" when you pull the inner sleeve out. You have to look long and hard at everything in that photo, AND keep the lyrics to "Wish You Were HERE" in mind. You're right about the woman standing in the tall grass, and there's much more than that. But as you said, only the earliest issues of the album featured ALL of the "eggs," so it's hard to search them out now, unless you can find online images from those, in high enough detail.

    There is one thing on the Maiden album I think most folk miss and that is the writting down the side of the building to the left of the "aces high" bar which is the tetragrammaton, basically the 4 letters of God's name. I guess the joke was that the band got so much flack for "Number Of The Beast" that they would have the Hebrew name of God on an album and see if the religious zealots who gave them a hard time before would notice and praise them for having "God" on their album instead.

    The North American cover of Judas Priest's "Point of Entry' - it looks pretty silly with unravelling piece of computer paper, however, look closely and you'll see that it's actually the space between somebody's legs (the black items either side are the legs) and the pointy bit at the top just below the words "Point of Entry" is actually the risqué point of entry.
