      The part where he said “when he dies, he doesn’t want to take his money to the grave ” really hit! I normally say when I die, I hope to have emptied myself- everything that was possible for me to do in this life, should have been done. Be it giving away money, or helping a stranger or having an empowering conversation with a friend. Anyway thanks Steve and Mo and the entire team behind the scenes this was a fantastic episode.

    No amount of guilt can change the past and no amount of anxiety can change the future.

    • @lbe
      @lbe Před 2 lety +76

      That's true 👍. But the problem with "no amount of guilt can change the past" is when there's no remorse or apology if you're actions have negatively impacted another, or worse - others. Narcissists who live by this kind of phrase totally misinterpret what it means. They think it's justification to not give a shi£. I've had many a narcisstic client who have said this or similar to me about guilt. What they don't grasp is the concept of genuine remorse and allowing others to opportunity to forgive. That's why I'm very, very careful about what it means to let go of guilt!

    • @straightedgeveganbel2453
      @straightedgeveganbel2453 Před 2 lety +26

      @@lbe this saying is not meant for them or ppl that use it as an excuse. Guilt is very very difficult to stop, impossible really. This saying is for genuine ppl that for whatever reason have guilt in their life (like breaking up with the wrong person for example),( not doing something terrible) and just cannot seem to let it go and move past it so that they may enjoy the life they are living in the moment, in the now. That is all.

    Damn, I really needed to hear this. The last 7 years has been an absolute hell scape for me. My partner left me. I lost my job. I barely get to see or talk to my child, despite my best efforts. My grand father died. All my childhood trauma from state care flooded back and destroyed my will to live. It all happened in the span of a matter of weeks. Thank you both for a very insightful and amazing video. I’ve been going through absolute hell this past 1.5 years due to being so horrendously betrayed by my long time wife of 30 years and best friend. She absolutely ripped my heart out and handed it to me on a plate. After watching this video it’s clear that I’ve been very unhappy and unfulfilled for years and that’s probably why she left me for another man. So I have decided to make a stand as of now. And Mo’s insightfulness has given me a small spark to make the change. I have no idea where my life is heading at this time, will my music career take off etc, but it all starts right here and right now in my brain. Thank you again guys. 30:44 "Happiness as per the definition of the happiness equation is events equal to or beating expectations, life is going my way."
    30:53 "Basically happiness is calm and peacefulness you feel when you're okay with life as it is. It doesn't really matter what life is. What's matter is that you can be okay with it."
    32:14 We break the happiness equation because of 6 grand illusions & 7 blindspots:
    6 grand illusions:
    1) The illusion of thought
    2) The illusion of self
    3) The illusion of knowledge
    4) The illusion of time
    5) The illusion of control
    6) The illusion of fear
    34:32 "Disrupt your entire view of what to expect from life, because you're expecting life to behave through a lens of an illusion."
    41:52 "...if you've been following a certain topic for the last two months, and has not been able to influence the decision on that topic for the last two months, you're useless. So, stop watching that topic. And start choosing topic that you can champion." It is the better use of your time than creating an illusion that you can actually influence anything about it.
    43:20 If you are angry about an event, do these 3 steps:
    1) Ask yourself if what you are thinking is true
    2) Ask yourself if there's something you can do about it
    3) Ask yourself can you accept it and is there something you do to make your life better beside or despite the presence of the event.

I just had the most profound experience, when Mo said that his daughter told him “Ali had a dream that he was everywhere and part of everything and didn’t want to go back in his body” I actually felt as though his spirit was in my room...my dog suddenly got up and started barking (he’s normally very quiet) and he jumped up and came over to me looking all over the room! It was an incredibly beautiful feeling. Thank you so much for sharing this podcast with the world 🙏🏼❤️
    Another thing my dog is teaching me that you have touched on in this was the other day (he’s my first dog and I’m in my 50’s) I was looking at him and he looked really depressed...I thought “oh no, I don’t want him to reflect my depression” as I thought that I realised that my depression really is a choice and that the only way my dog won’t end up being depressed like I’ve been is for me to cheer the F up!! It’s so wonderful to hear my realisations being spoken about and validating I am on the right path. God bless you Stephen and Mo 🤩🙏🏼

    After being faced with so much loss as a child , abuse as well in my childhood and teenhood.. being health compromised.. the wisdom I’ve gotten from all of this has been embracing life … becoming stoic and allowing myself to thrive through chaos ! Hearing podcasts like this confirm to me I’m on the right path ! I’m not indenial , I’m not overly optimistic… I’m resilient and persevering through storms that will definitely come and definitely pass . Our brains sometimes feel like our worse enemy until we understand it’s a vessel we can use to muster and journey through life . Why settle at suffering when you can decide to turn suffering into thriving and acceptance . Life’s is as beautiful as we think !! I will one day help millions with my story, none of it was in vain , these podcasts are proof of such🧘🏾‍♀️🧘🏾‍♀️

      Jordan Peterson's interview is now available for all to compare.
      Mo here is certainly flawed in some ways, as are we all. It seems like his son forced himself through some journeys that Mo himself would have benefitted from. Jordan however is often an incoherent mess of inane analogies and drifting pseudointellectual stories that only his worryingly oversized cult-like following somehow believe to be profound. Certainly the difference in level of profoundness should send most reeling that JP ever got beyond being a questionable college teacher. He is a man who likely needs help rather than one who should be attempting to give out advice.

    • @ThisisnotTwitter
      @ThisisnotTwitter Před 2 lety +3

      @@ashalz15 Honestly I was only aiming to be fair in response to a dramatically unbalanced (to the point of inversion) comment. Perhaps Peterson was much more stable in the past before the pressures of fame/infamy found him and he was maybe a great teacher, I don't know. It is potentially possible so I will withdraw that particular remark in regards of his previous lecturer/tutor abilities.
      The main thing to learn from JP videos however, is having the wherewithal to critically see his profound sounding word salad for it's limitations and marvel at all of those who overzealously obsess over him with true concern. They seemingly attach themselves to whatever baseless snippets they manage to project their own interpretation and self image on to. When you watch his interviews with objective criticism, you will hopefully see why scientists describe his comments on things he has no clue about, such as his recent assertion that " the climate does not exist" etc, as a "word salad of nonsense".
      What to learn from him would be how someone can say virtually nothing of weight, often lacking any context, yet somehow convince swathes of people that he is some kind of philosophy messiah.

    It's his conscious parenting that allowed his boy to be able to share such wisdom. Many children have this joyous innate wisdom but are not given the attentiveness and the one on one engagement, true patience and sincere attention listening, eye contact, all things parental involvement, in every day and night of a childs life. If only more parents would give their children more credit. It's not a power play. They are filled with words of wisdom but many dont bother to give them the credit or priority in how priceless the gift of a child's sprit and mind is. Ask them what they think about situations that happen in real life. Listen, really listen and write down their little quotes. It's such a gift. It's not something that lasts forever as they grow up they change.

That some people would be completely engulfed in a struggle thinking it’s all that matters, that it’s the end of the world, but to those not concerned it means nothing. ie . Basically strength come from our ability to choose to ignore troubles and focus on doing positive things. When troubles come, just let it go. Free ourselves from the pressure of it although it is painful. Perhaps like when we are doing some exercise at the gym. No pain no gain. It is all the troubles that life throw us that will result in our strengthen mind and outlook. It is the crook that made us look more humane and beautiful. Just keep going and do help other people.

      A great concept without a doubt. But ignoring to pay attention to the world around you simply because it’s negative can put you in extremely vulnerable positions.
      Nobody moves into a gang infested neighborhood and ignores their surroundings. You will get robbed and/or killed real quick.
      Another country invaded the one you live in and is evicting people from their homes for there own benefits. You probably don’t want to ignore that.
      Paying attention to the bad and negative in this world only allows you to better position yourself and react to situations with a stable mind.

      I'm about to do the same. Thanks for expressing this. 3 months ago I had to move because of a break up. She was my best friend for 14 years, we were together for 12. I won't type my auto biography but I've gone through deep bouts of depression and anxiety since I was a child. Crying myself to sleep with deep thoughts, mainly a fear of death, and the concept of time really scares me. It's definitely held me back having a career, fitting into modern day society, having friends, being financially successful. I'm 42 now, financially broke, don't have any friends really. But, all of the pain and worry has cultivated such a huge heart, understanding, care, empathy for others. Such a dichotomy. I'm trying my best dealing with the immense pain of missing my best friend by exercising everyday, journaling, Wim Hof breathing, praying--and it still overflows. I'm trying my best to rewire myself, if possible. I'm constantly doing research to try to help myself break out of this, which is becoming too much for me, it's scary at times, actually. These interviews are invaluable, and I'm so grateful for them. I want to do ayahuasca eventually, as well. Wish you nothing but the best.

    As a currently grieving/bereaved/mourning individual, living alone, suffering immensely, in debt, unwell, and afflicted by a multitude of issues, I would say that losing a family member, especially one who was close and who you loved, especially an elderly parent, unexpectedly and suddenly, with no opportunity to say goodbye, is the worst possible thing to happen to the youngest child.

    There hasn’t been a single podcast that I haven’t enjoyed and learn something from. The way you engage with your guests their interaction with you…and your minimal questions leaving it for the guest to answer at great length I think it’s so insightful!! Shows your own unselfishness and your willingness to share the wealth and the gifts that these people can bring to the rest of the world…. and I always think about each podcast usually sometimes for days after I’ve watched it sinks in it’s a wealth of information it’s entertaining and I must say thank you and God bless you for what you’re doing because you’re doing it right!! ❤️😘👍🏼

    I have heard this episode multiple times and each time something different rings out. This time I love that happiness is being in the present. Not living in the future (anxiety) or past (regret). The other was Steven stating that sometimes he feels so grateful it brings him to tears. Wow both ring true in my life this time around. I’m sure I’ll come back to it again and again with a different focus. Thank you!

      Always fascinated by people who are somehow proud of someone else's accomplishments as if they had accomplished it, themselves, all because of some completely random commonality like geographical origin. It's like football fans who think that by wearing the jersey of a famous player, people might think that they, too, are just as skilled as the player. Astonishing how delusional so many people are.
