@Ger Vang Yep, that's right... That plus a lot of other things, vax felt like a secondary character on the show, i guess that's what happens when a rogue roll so high on stealth, he almost dissapear from the story completely.
Honestly, props to Liam for being the one to break the ice for in-game romance. Nowadays they all flirt with each other constantly, but you can see from everyone's reactions how much harder it was for them at the time. No matter how good of an actor you are, looking into your friend's eyes and saying "I love you," then turning to her husband and saying "I kiss her," is gonna feel a little weird. ESPECIALLY when there are thousands of people watching. If it wasn't for Liam being so deeply in love with roleplaying, we might never have seen some of the most beautiful love stories on the internet.
Oh my gosh you're right...I think it's also partly because they are extremely close friends to where they're almost like siblings, but yeah, that took some major stones
They weren't married at the time, but yeah... super awkward anyway.
@@happyslapsgiving5421 I believe they were dating already so it still stands that it is a bit awkward, in game romance in tabletop RPG on a table full of close friends is one of the hardest things to pull off and feel comfortable about while playing.

@@leilaniz5909 story purposes. There’s no inherent *need* to, but it is possible to make some fun interactions surrounding romance. Not everyone will be comfortable with it, but given how nowadays everyone at the table is trying to romance something they clearly found it to be a really fun experience.
Makes it more emotional when you realize Vax is bringing it up now because he thinks it might be his last chance.

I believe she did something similar during the Slayer's Take when someone else stole a kiss too, lol. Marisha is very expressive in her embodiment of Keyleth.
She tends to hide all the time even when she played Beauregard! One of my favorite moments was when Yasha and Jester were writing the poem about her.

I don't know if you've seen campaign 1, but every time Vax brought it up to Keyleth after everyone would get so embarrassed. Heads would turtle into tshirts and Taliesen full on wrapped a scarf around his face. 🤣
It's so funny to see Marisha hiding behind her notebook after that, knowing full well how blatantly Beau flirts with Yasha in the first episode of Campaign 2.

@@TimpanistMoth_AyKayEll Definitely not. When you do something like that you only warn the DM, because it's way too much fun to watch the genuine reactions of your fellow players.
@@Mediados In that case I would hope the session zero included general discussion about that kind of stuff being on the table, and some kind of general consent all around. A lot of people would not necessarily be okay with being suddenly told their character was kissed.
(Speaking in general terms, since CR clearly worked through this very nicely - and we got to enjoy the results! I do note that Matt chose to take a break right there, very likely so there could be some BTS and without on-camera pressure about how to proceed going forward...)

@@FeatherlessWings I was pretty let down. But I suppose it's because we haven't had much build up like we did in the campaign.
Laura's face is hilarious, but you can see when everyone actually processes what Vax says and it's perfect.
Laura's right away with 'oh hell no', Sam is right there with it as he's about to giggle like a mad man (aka Sam), Marisha has to do a doubletake and has that moment of 'processing' as the eyes just widen and the whole thing of 'he wait what', Taliesin's just kinda goes 'excuse me' and starts coughing... and Travis is the only one who I'm not certain on, as he doesn't react at all... very Grog of him.
Oh Travis did react, he just didn’t want to break character until the break I believe. If you pay attention, as Vax makes his confession, Travis has a confused gaze looking left and right for a moment and has a smirk (which is somewhat hidden by his hand) in a sort of gobsmacked expression as if saying “oh, he did not”. When the break begins he lets go a whooaa as Laura is having a WTF. But in general, it’s like you said, very Grog of him.
I honestly thought Marisha had that reaction during the live episode.

I think it really helps that they're all actors (voice and more) so they understand a character is a character and not a reflection of reality. So they can commit to the role without freaking out their friends.
For obvious reasons this approach won't always work with every group

i feel like most people might not like the edits done by the LOVM writes but i actually appreciate them. the way i see it, the live broad cast is the rough draft and the animation is the final draft of an amazing story
exactly! i know if my campaigns were adapted into anything, there's PLENTY that I'd want moved around or rewritten

The only Minecraft creator I watch is Ph1LzA. If you're unfamiliar, he really blew up when his character, who'd survived for over 5 years in the same Hardcore world, died on stream due to some straight-up bullshit. (in hardcore, you lose the ability to respawn after death and the world dies when you do, essentially.)
He is a really entertaining person and does these awesome builds in Hardcore mode on Twitch, but then posts really nicely edited CZcams videos with nice montages and cool music. The videos usually just focus on the important moments and big events. He calls the Twitch stream "The manga" and the CZcams "the anime adaptation".
I think this is similar.
TL;DR: The CR streams are the manga and TLVM is the anime.

People are saying they're disappointed in the way it was used in TLOVM and while I understand that, I also disagree. It makes sense how the confession came about in the show! In the game, they've had all that build-up, bonding, and history -- which makes this small, quiet confession after a big battle so effective. It's intimate and unhurried. Meanwhile in the show, these two don't have that history with each other or even with the audience! Vax's confession during a moment when he thinks and accepts that they are all going to die makes so much more sense. He's impulsive. Whether or not you could argue that this version of Vax really meant/thought about it as much, it was a "now or never" thing for him. It speaks to both of their characters.
Also picks up on the thread that he thought of keyleth as he was about to die to the briarwoods. Near death realizations are on brand for vax

i always love Laura's reaction when Vax says he loves Keyleth, that jaw drop is adorable.
I'm a little upset they changed when this happened and the anders fight but I think it works well. As long as I get a vaxleth kiss soon I think I'll be fine, or at least the "if you'll have me I'm yours if not I understand"
If you watch the watch party where the cast comments on whats going on in the show you find that they wanted to 'fix' or 'change' a lot of the impromto moments from the livestream. Thing's that you think after that fact 'I wish I had done this instead' or bits that felt 'out of character or didn't fit in with what was going on' so that's where a lot of these changes came from. The cast had the final say in everything and even came up with how if they could 'do it again' how they would have wanted it. So ya. It works nice. :3
I mean, doing the show exactly like how they did in the game just wouldn't work. A lot of stuff requires change; it's no longer improvised, you need proper pacing, some drama, stuff like that! Like, take the Scanlan's Solo Mission for example: In the game, things went a lot smoother than how it went in the show for Scanlan! Just teleport to the roof, drink the fire-breathing potion, put the house on fire, push the Duke off the building in a single roll! That was a pretty sweet moment, but not really drama-heavy! The Duke catching him on the roof and nearly winning in a fight creates more tension for the show! Same with a lot of stuff!
Honestly I just like that they can keep doing a bunch of inside jokes and easter eggs while still keep a great pacing to just tell the story!

I'm pretty sentimental but I don't mind some timing changes here and there, as long as the cast was cool with them. But the Anders fight was dumb. That's not a good change regardless of who approved.
Thank you, Arsequeef! I love that they tweaked that beautiful moment in LoVM because, clearly, Marisha was caught totally off guard during the stream and the others were weighing in with their awkwardness! It makes my Vaxleth shipper heart happy to see this exchange finally animated!

It's probably because they don't actually get together until mid-late game because she has to really think about what she wants even if they're fighting for a bigger future. She was also always going to outlive him as a arch-druid. (Or at least, her goal would make her one)
It gives me some comfort that she always knew that she would outlive him, even though all of us wish they had more time together.
well if you really think about it, in the span of things they'd been streaming this for 8 months when he did. (assuming they kept up the regular weekly schedule). It makes sense for the players, IMO
@@ultimomos5918 oh completely, and not to mention they had 2 more years where they weren't streaming the game yet. Granted, I think they had once a month sessions back then. Streaming it was what made them able to do it every week (and now almost every week as they take the last week of the month off, thank god, Matt really needed that break)

Credit to Liam for putting romance into the roleplaying aspect of the game and making us all care. And in the show, it might have come up sooner than expected but I think it fit in with the timing and how the show has it's light and heavy moments.
Started watching CR with Aabrya's guest DM:ing and IMMEDIATLY fell in love with Liam's play style. Been watching Campaing 3 and the cartoon and...wow. This scene.
I just gonna admit it; I would NOT be able to NOT fall for that guy IRL if he was playing at my table. Damn!

ok but they really need to do that scene at the tree, where all the rest of the players try to hide, and taliesin wraps his head in his colorful scarf, yea that scene but animated with vox macina all trying to hide in plain sight as kiki and vax confess their love for eachother, too shocked to actually walk away to give them the moment
If you're comparing this moment in the relationship to the lore, sure it's missing the foundation and buildup of hours of gaming. But there will be so much more of this relationship laid down, just look at the cover art on Amazon where they are looking at each other. Plus we have another romance to get into and the juxtaposition of this young impulsive energy type of love to the other's more refined-type characters to play with.

I know some ppl aren’t really happy with Vax’s confession but from what I’ve seen....he’s kind of a “go for it” person he figured he was going to die might as well say it and Keyleth’s reply was perfect to me you don’t say something when we’re about to die😂
honestly being someone who new nothing of critical role up until this moment, the joy I am having watching Vox unfold again from a different place is quite awesome!

The early stream days had a charm that a big production value (as nice as it is) kinda washes over for me
I kind of want to see the ending of the series be grog or pike or even Scanlan telling vex and Percy's kids about their crazy sheningans as vox machina.
I just had this moment in our Curse of Strahd campaign. I'm playing a human Oath of the Ancients paladin, and I'm teaching our dusk elf cleric-turned-warlock how to use a magic sword that she received (and can use). It's a swordsmanship lesson and it moves off into worrying about the pasts we've left behind and how the future holds no guarantees... We had been leading up to this for MONTHS with little things and finally I told her the same thing. "You know I'm in love with you, right?" And it was the sweetest, most awkward moment but it was such a great payoff.

Well Percys coughing wasn't normal either. He was taking points of corruption from being in Whitestone and the corruption was making him have a persistent cough. So his coughing...was also NOT good(and noticed by the characters as strange) even back then. Lmao.
