It was said on another video, but for the love of God please don't get under a car supported by only a jack! They can collapse in a second and pin you under. The car should be resting on jack stands before you put any body part under it. Using a jack works... right up until the second it doesn't, then you're lucky to escape with your life. Please be safe Ernest 🙏

Imagine if AutoZone were to create a new program, and hired
Mechanics like Ernest, in an AZ uniform/ID badge, decaled van, tools, chemicals, etc.
and mostly use AZ parts- and AZ dispatches them out.
You know Ernest would be UT first hire! Young, decent person, educated, bilingual,
    already good Mechanic.

      Aw now, c'mon man!
      Hey- are you Native American?
I'm second gen Irish/German, I'm an American, but my Family wasn't; they were Immigrants. I know what you mean, though. Nobody catered to Immigrants back then. You learned English, worked at what you could find, and the Government gave you zero.
Nowadays- every product has a English/Spanish label. Subsidized Government programs, incentives to come here. Jobs handed out.
But remember- most are good, decent people, just looking for a better life, just like our Families once did. Sure, there are bad mixed in- same everywhere.

The reason you don't touch , halogen light bulbs, on the glass part is because the oils on your skin could cause the glass to break/shatter/explode with the high heat the bulb produces. Just make sure to wipe them with a cloth if you happen to touch it. Great videos, glad I found you.

a 6-8 in fuel pipe fit tightly over the spark plug is a must removing and installing spark plus general you can screw in 3-4 full turns at any angle knowing your plugs ant cross threaded saves dropping a plug down the plug whole and bending the tip removal great as its just a matter of slipping on the plug an undoing and lifting especially if you were not going to replace

Next time you get a "dirty" battery like that one- before
cleaning, use your DVM, set to millivolts, and poke one terminal,
then the other probe in the "dirt". You will see a "surface voltage".
That is boiled away electrolyte, hydrogen sulfide gas deposits,
from an overly charging alternator. "Maintenance Free" caps battery caps tend to get clogged with electrolyte; the normal production of hydrogen sulfide gas percolates this trapped liquid through the vents, spilling it on the batterie's surface. If this is happening, carefully pry off caps & rinse out electrolyte, then replace.
*CAUTION: ELECTROLYTE IS CORROSIVE AND WILL BURN*
If you defeat a label or crack something- the warranty may be voided. Correct additives are found at Amazon, just search "battery fluid".
That's why you see older cars, around the battery the metal is
all rotted- hydrogen sulfide is highly corrosive.
    AGM is all I use.

    • @robbybuzen2155
      @robbybuzen2155 Před 3 lety

I wouldn't recommend opening and adding fluid to a battery. It will void the warranty. Working 4 years w/ advance auto parts, generally when someone has tried to add distilled water, the battery comes back bad.

Earnest, I saw you using needle nose pliers for those spark plugs. My dad has a tool which looks like a screwdriver handle, with a flexible shaft, and the end looks like a spark plug boot. It's meant from grabbing deep in those coil-on-plug holes. Next time I'm at his house I'll comment the brand and number of the tool so you can get one- I think they are a necessity for odd sized spark plugs

You won't experience any resistance using dielectric grease. It gets squeezed out where and there is metal on metal contact. Where there isn't contact it fills the gaps and inhibits corrosion that will turn into a problem if not inhibited. It does that without risk of inadvertently completing a circuit if it were to ooze into the wrong place.

For technical functioning it does not matter in which order you connect them.
However for safety reasons it does matter.
The whole body of the car is usually connected to the minus pole. And you can accidentally hit that body with the positive lead. So connecting the lead first is safer.
    Recap:
    Negative pole first:
Whole car (except a few parts like the positive pole) are connected. Any mistake with the other lead will lead to a short. And car batteries are very good* at shorts. You really do not want this.
    Positive pole first:
Only a small part of the car is now connected to power. If you mess up by touching the car with the other lead nothing will happen.
Lastly: This might also be a habits for people who deal with electronics. Ground goes first. Always.

I wish you were in California. I’m having problems with my 2011 camaro. Battery is good, and as well as the alternator. Battery dies only when running for a while, I think there’s a short. It would take so much stress off since you’re and awesome and Honest mechanic (rare nowadays). Everyone who has checked it says something else that doesn’t fix it

Idk why you never warm the car before draining oil. You can let it drip for a month and your still not getting most of the oil.

  • @ppeterson9359

Have you ever thought about using pigmats, or getting a big drip pan? If I were an apartment manager I'd be pretty unhappy with the oil spots left behind. Better to not make a mess in the first place than to try to clean up afterwards.

I imagine you do a lot off-camera, but I wonder if you checked the coolant level, transmission fluid level, topped off the washer fluid, and checked the lights. It seems the things I mentioned would be essential checks before making a road trip. Additionally, why did you not check the battery fluid level after determining it had been leaking? It was not a sealed battery and may have been low or empty. Thanks for the amazing content! I enjoy your videos and have been binge-watching them.

    • @RoadsideRescue
      @RoadsideRescue  Před 2 lety

Yeah good question. I don’t mess with battery’s. (Just the fluid/water)?as for the rest I did check them. Your right sometimes I just don’t realize I did stuff without sharing.

@@RoadsideRescue Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, I believe battery fluid/water level is essential in preventing dead battery cells. Thanks again for keeping your interested viewers entertained during the pandemic.

Noticed you disconnected the battery , did you have to input the radio code afterwards? Also I work at a parts store & the headlamp situation that you encountered today happens everyday
Customer comes in asks forow beams we sell them the low beam , comes back HH later & claims they are wrong !
We go out to check & find out the customer was pulling out the high beams beacuse those are the easiest to get too lol

I had great pleasure helping people with mechanical issues in their cars but also felt guilty when I couldn't help , I used to tell people If I have the knowledge there's is no reason to charge for mechanic work since I had a different profession where I made my living. I would tell them get a quote and if you want to do it your self I can help you. It is hard to explain but I had to stop because I started to feel guilty and sad about hearing people even having to pay for parts. Last one was a car on limp mode due to bad selenoid pack in the transmission , transmission shop quoted $1200 we replaced the selenoid pack but it will have to take it to dealer to flash the pcm and relearned the shifting for $150 I felt so bad the lady had to pay for that and that I could not do it all even though the savings where great by us doing it, that's when I realized it was affecting me. Hard to understand but that's how I felt.
