  • The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 2 continues! Remember that Nether Fortress we turned into a big box of angry stuff?
    This tutorial will show you how to make an easy Wither Skeleton Farm by using a Piglin to separate Wither Skeletons from other Nether Fortress mobs. We'll expand this farm in future to take full advantage of the nether fortress spawning area - but for now, we focus on splitting the Wither Skeletons and Zombie Piglins into two separate areas, allowing us to farm Wither Skeleton Skulls, coal, and bones.

    To everyone suggesting wither roses: HE KNOWS. That would be a whole separate video and it would be silly to jump straight to the most technical method without showing this intermediate version first. Not everyone wants to deal with trapping a wither.

    Thanks for considering my request pix! I was really waiting for this video to get released! Very useful guide!
    Also,
    1) you can add walls on the platform every 3 blocks to prevent magma cube spawns, and turtle eggs on the corners to lure the pigmen away to a kill chamber to maximise the spawning rates. This can also turn this farm into a small gold farm.
    2) You can add dogs in minecarts near the kill chamber, because dogs can kill wither skeletons on their own will, thus this farm can be afk-able.
    3) Another thing you can do is to use portals to channel the wither skeletons to an added afk spot with precise y-coordinate measures, to maximise the rates even further!
    4) Also, tho not necessary but you can keep armorer and shepherd villagers near the farm to trade the excess coal and white dye (from bone meal crafted from bones) to get some extra emeralds.

    Couple of fixes/additions:
    -for huge extra comfort I’d lower the chest by one block and make it a double chest, fill the new gap with a central hopper where the chest used to be and remove the 3-4 blocks above the center hopper to make eye contact possible with witherskeletons in the back to attract them, once they move closer into reach of you sword they’ll have, if player positioned himself right, lost visuals on the player again so they won’t be able to attack back. The benefit is double storage size and no running around to get withers in the back…farm should work with an auto clicker (auto strike) then
    -ceiling trapdoors around the turtle egg will prevent wither skeketons from accidentally falling down the wrong chute
    -iron golems on the outside can attract the slimes. If placed correctly and walled with slabs/trapdoors/daylight sensors, only slimes can make eye contact (during their jumps)and therefor aggro to them. Blazes are to small, so are wither wither-/skeketons. Non aggro blazes shouldn’t go high enough to establish eye contact with the golems
    (haven’t tested this theory yet)
    -a one block gap on ground level around the farm should let smallest magma cubes pass, where a bunch of toads could be waiting to deal with them. Ceiling spikes around the inside wall could potentially break the cubes down (if jumping against ceiling spikes apply damage, which idk)
    Overall a great trap which I’ll copy with above ideas added, great work @pixl

  • @norbucso
    @norbucso Před 2 lety +9

    Those netherrack blocks can spawn mobs if they inside the inner bounding box. Officially any spawnable block inside the inner box can spawn any fortress mobs. The outer layer only if it's made of netherbrick.
    One of the most fun farms although need a lot of spawn proofing but it's satisfying for sure.

  • @IanSlothieRolfe
    @IanSlothieRolfe Před 2 lety +5

    I recall Dataless822 used blaze AI mechanics to get them to pathfind to a hole where were killed, in the way that some double spawner blaze farms use the blazes tentdency to path find towards large solid blocks, so thats one way. Also you can put a pattern of buttons or walls across the spawning floor to prevent magma spawning, although this reduces the number of spawning spaces, but the lack of magma blocks and blazes will compensate for the loss. However, i suspect you;re likely to make a wither rose farm now you have a source of wither skeleton heads, and they will take care of all the problems!

  • @Mikeyjoehalo

      @Pixlriffs  Před 2 lety +1

      You can't cover the nether bricks in wither roses, because they can only be planted on netherrack or dirt variants.
      You need to build the platform out of one of those blocks, which requires a better understanding of the nether fortress structure bounding boxes.
      You also need a way to farm about 10 stacks of wither roses, which I haven't set up yet because I've only fought the wither once.

      Nope, it’s one of the only crops that don’t need light to grow, but I’d recommend adding light anyway because mobs can spawn on blocks that have sugarcane on them.

      Mods. There is no way to in true vanilla Minecraft, but most people just accept them as a quality of life feature just like things like optifine. And that's the joy of Minecraft isn't it? It's a sandbox game, where anything you want, you can probably get in the marketplace. And who cares what it does, because there is no "right" way to play a sandbox game.

    • @Pixlriffs
      @Pixlriffs  Před 2 lety +1

      Bundles have not been added to the survival game yet. They’re available through commands, and you can add a recipe using datapacks, but I don’t plan to do either with this series.
      Bundles obey the same rules about stacking items as your normal inventory does, so a bundle can only hold one potion, because potions are unstackable items.

      I considered it, but the skeletons are a minor concern, it would also affect the Wither Skeleton AI, and getting dogs to follow me all the way out here would be pretty tough. They teleport to you, but I'm used to flying through the Nether at this point 😅

    • @Pixlriffs
      @Pixlriffs  Před 2 lety +1

      And since zombie Piglins are immune to fire damage, it’s actually worse to drop them in the lava, because they’ll be closer to the player standing at the wither skeleton killing platform, and the game won’t let them despawn. 😅

    Wither Roses?

    • @Pixlriffs
      @Pixlriffs  Před 2 lety +1

      Requires us to get more wither skeleton skulls so we can even summon a wither in the first place... hence this farm.
      Would also require a deeper discussion of nether fortress structure bounding boxes, considering you can't place wither roses on nether bricks, so you have to make sure the spawning blocks are within the bounding box of the crossroads.
      Basically it's a lot more work and this farm is a good balance of effort vs reward for a single player world.
