- In March of 1976, a neighbor called for a welfare check on the Bishops because she hadn't seen them in a while. When authorities entered the house, it was clear a horrific event had taken place, but there was nobody there. That would kick off the hunt for a man with a mysterious background.

It always blows my mind when people say " Hes innocent..they wouldnt hurt a fly.... Ive known them my whole life...." Blah blah blah... That's the point. Most murders/rapists, ect dont "LOOK" Like a Monster...

How does a father massacre his family with a hammer. How does a human get THAT messed up?!!
They can do it for a few reasons. They have convinced themselves that they would all be better off dead than to have to live the rest of their lives in shame because of his failures.
They're also able to remove themselves from the violent act since they've become masters of disguising who they are. None of them likely knew much about the person they called father and husband. They've perfected departmentalizing every aspect of their lives so he was able to mentally check out while he was bludgeoning them to death. The fact that he didn't cave his mother's head in like he did everyone else's tells me that his mother is the only one who truly knew who he was. What was left of him, anyway.
Narcissists in particular blame others for their problems, all the horrible things that are inside themselves they project onto other, and they are absolutely full of rage and fury for all the imagined ways they've been wronged.
It's demonic, this mother should have raised her son Christian and this wouldn't have happened to her.

I truly believe this man bought new shoes and abandoned his car to travel on foot. He was too much of a narcissist to off himself. So he more than likely changed his appearance, name and location and started a new life. He would be in his 80’s now…terrifying that someone like that could be living amongst us today.
Narcissists actually have a high suicide rate as at their core they hate themselves. I think a lot of people mistake narcissism with like being obsessed with yourself and thinking you’re perfect but it’s actually the opposite. You hate yourself and think you’re the worst and so you have to project that you’re the best and buy the best things and force your children to act like the best children etc that’s where the abuse comes in.

There are narcissists who hate themselves at their core, but after living with a diagnosed, abusive one, I can assure you that not all of them are like that. I talked to his doctor about his behaviors before I left him, I was really, really wanting our marriage to work, and was told that while some of them can be helped with therapy to learn to basically deal with whatever makes them hate themselves, there are others who truly believe that there is nothing wrong with them, refuse to take responsibility for how they treat others because in their minds, someone else is always wrong. That's why they have to treat you so badly, to make you learn why you're wrong so you'll do it their way. They truly don't care at their core, about anyone but themselves. They can love another person to a point, but they will never love anyone as much as they love,and like, themselves. So with all due respect, because you are right about one side of narcissism, there IS another side to it that is just selfish, mean, and quite frankly, can be very scary.

@@CC12398 yes. Both are very unhealthy for others. While I can have some sympathy for someone who hates themselves so much that they feel they have to harm others, whether mentally or physically, it only goes so far because the damage they do to others is far worse than what they do to themselves. Some will argue and say suicide is on par with hurting others because it's basically the worst way you can hurt yourself. But is it, really? When you die, your problems, of whatever type, are over. So in the case of a narcissist, they are free and the people they damaged are still left here to deal with the results of their abuse. Let me be clear that I'm not speaking against someone who kills themselves because of horrible depression, bullying, etc.. I'm speaking specifically about narcissists. Because if my ex ever did it, you can rest assured he would leave a message letting you know exactly whose fault it was, every thing they said and did to cause him to do it, ect.. It would be because he was throwing a fit, wasn't thinking about the fact that he couldn't get out of the consequences of the action, and his last thought would be "This will teach them to..."( Fill in the blank). So in some cases, it's the ultimate act of narcissism.
Hi, Jiles (it's Nicola Todd, your long-time Aussie subscriber!) 2023 was a bleak year for me, I was feeling very ill right from the beginning. I was finally diagnosed with breast cancer in July, had the tumour removed in August, underwent Chemotherapy for 12 weeks then straight into Radiotherapy every day for 3 weeks which was rough! Finally got home on Friday, January 5 cancer free so I'm looking forward to a better year this year! Happy New Year Jiles to you and your family thanks for all the great content. With his psychological state, he likely died or killed himself in the deep woods but with his background, if anyone could disappear he could. Family annihilators tend not to kill themselves because they justify their actions in their own mind. 29:19
I highly doubt that. Keep in mind that one dog tracked him about 300 yards down one trail before he "disappeared", while another picked up his scent in the information stop and only tracked him as far as the parking lot. My guess is that he did go into that park- but only to that ranger station or whatever it was and then about 300 yards down one trail- before turning around, walking back to the parking area and getting into another car, perhaps one driven by the female companion someone else mentioned seeing him with. While the state and national parks may not have had as many visitors years ago, today, the Smoky Mountains parks is one of the top visited parks in the nation, if not the most visited. That's not to say he couldn't have disappeared in there and never been found- 4 or 5 others have over the years. Many others have been lost but later found, either dead or alive. It's one of the top 5 "deadliest parks" but I think that mostly people who aren't as prepared as they believe they are or try to go off trail or run into bears (in which case, most are found, at least in part).

This case happened about a mile from my childhood home and the murder weapon was purchased at the same Sears which I used to play in as a kid. Originally the case disturbed me being that the kids went to the same schools I did 30 years before. Unfortunately Bradford's Secret Service background has allowed him to probably get away, I hope that the family has some kind of peace.

I remember this story very well. I live near the University of Maryland & it was covered extensively in the news media. I also recall it being reenacted on America's Most Wanted. Such a heinous crime perpetrated by a man who was upset that he didn't get what he wanted at work!
Bishop is a textbook family annihilator. Underachieving in a high value job, overly involved mother that lives with the family, financial failure, affairs. I'm a horse, not zebra kind of person.

Not necessarily I grew up on Roosevelt Street right off of Center Street, right directly behind Suburban hospital where the bishop family home is. It is very well known by generational families here that he was a spy and most likely his family was killed and he got away. He had inside information do you really think the best man would have gone his whole life and they never would have caught him I doubt it. He was a test dummy for the government and everybody in this area knows it. But he's certainly dead today. Things aren't always a simple as some man killing his family what, he had a daughter and they found out about her as this video says her mother was originally a part of the Pagan biker gang which is not even mentioned in this video. He was selling passports documents he got a lot of money selling information to other governments similar to Hanson, but only in a different time. They don't tell you everything in these videos. I've heard more stories that I can tell you over the past 40 years. There's a lot of discrepancies. There's a lot of people have said that there was a look-alike going around town in North Carolina, Motel clerk said the man did not resemble Bishop who bought the pickaxe and Hammer at the hardware store in Bethesda, interesting story but there's more to it he's not a John list. He certainly didn't kill his family to protect them if he did kill them at all. Because you can't go through a house and kill that many people unscathed yourself. No DNA was ever found from anybody else that in itself is also very suspicious. The government can make a lot of things happen. Seriously if they can kill a standing US president in broad daylight. In front of hundreds of people and tell them all they didn't see what they saw what else can they do ?

He lived there with his younger brother and parents for less than a year, during World War 2. Please google “ron pataky.” He is a violent psychopath whose longest incarceration was twenty days in jail at age 63. Ron never was prosecuted for a felony. When he was a teen, his parents moved from the DC area to Ohio. They never returned to the DC area, but the facade of the house at 5803 Roosevelt Street in Bethesda looks very much like it did eighty-plus years ago.

I'm a hardened true crime fan, but "pulpification of brain" was next-level horror even for me....
pulpification is the worst word ever...to hav in a report.

This awful case sounds very like that of the murders of the Dupont de Ligonnes family. Neither husband/father has ever been found. Bishop could speak several languages and therefore could easily have fit in anywhere. It is so horrifying, to know that there are people out there, who can commit such heinous crimes.
I can't believe nobody mentioned that he might have switched sides and gone to the Soviets. They would love an agent they had so much leverage on. They would own him and he would have to do whatever they wanted.
Brad was in therapy. The CIA would never even consider him simply for that one reason.

I could not help but think of John List, another family anihilator, who remained on the run for many years before he was nabbed by law enforcement.
When I was a kid, America's Most Wanted did a profile of John List and the music they played to show the classical music he left playing in the house when he left after he killed his entire family and the scary nature of what he did terrified me. I can t remember exactly how old I was. I'm guess between 7-9 years old. Just hearing about a father who killed his own mother, wife and children was a concept I had never even thought about before at that time. Up until that point, to me a family consisted of people who loved each other and wouldn't do anything to hurt one another. I was confused and terrified. On the show, they recreated what they believed he would look like at that time with a life-like bust of him and that thing was terrifying to see. It must have been accurate because I think he was caught shortly after the second time that particular episode aired and the person who turned him in said that she had seen the episode and recognized him from the America's Most Wanted profile. This case is extremely similar. I hate thinking of the possibility that he lived a very long life after that and may possibly be deceased without ever being brought to justice for these horrible crimes. Shame, shame, shame!!
I think that family annihilators share certain characteristics and that studies should be conducted to identify risk factors. I note many of them, like List, experience failure that they hide from their loved ones, tend to be extremely conventional, and are financially dependent on their mother. Crazy! I used to camp at Elkmont when I lived close to the Smokies for several years. Half the people here probobly have too, but it always strikes me when i hear somewhere familiar in these cases. And what a horrible case.
I live in the city next to Bethesda. My mom said she had just moved to the area around the time this happened. I wasn’t born until 1988 but I have heard about this case multiple times because it’s a local crime. Thanks for covering it.

That’s definitely an interesting case. It’s been a while since I’ve seen anyone with talent cover it. It would be a great case for Monsters to cover.
Robert Marshall would be another one too.
I shall forever believe that MacDonald’s family was murdered, and that he was framed for it, because he refused to go along with having drugs shipped back to the USA in the bodies of dead soldiers. I believe Helena Stoeckley (sp?) and Ted Gunderson.

There's a family annihilator case from Australia from 1950s or 1960s where the father killed his entire family, which was his wife & kids. I'm positive it happened in Melbourne, Victoria. He was caught, convicted & was then released from prison after a considerably short sentence compared to the horrific crime he committed. He was released from prison with a complete new identity.

The middle son, Brenton Bishop was my friend, he is the smiling blond boy in the family photo, I knew the family, and the grandma was full of energy. They lived a few blocks away in South Pasadena for a couple years 71-72 I think, then they moved East. I was 11 when the murders happened and it has haunted me forever. Brendan was so full of life, and a great athlete. Still can't believe this happened.

@tonyahinrichs8828 I suppose the same could be said for the likes of John list, Chris Watts and many others. It's that selfish attitude of I don't want my family but nobody can have them, I get to decide whether they live or die as they are just extensions of myself.

MKULTRA, I was referring to the theory presented in the video, that brad was one of the CIA operatives or others involved, who were subjected voluntary or involuntary to LSD and other drugs as a sort of human experiment

This man had connections and lived all over the world. He disappeared into plain view somewhere in Europe, Eastern Europe or Africa but could easily have ended up in Central America. Truly a monster.

In 1980 I spent about 6 months camping in around the tropical East coast of far North Queensland. It is never cold there, and you can always get free seafood, coconuts, wild fruit. I had a Landrover camper with a gas stove and fridge. There aren't many people. There are some feral people as it is so easy to live on very little money. I was cooking fresh caught fish when an American man, about 60 walked out of the scrub. He did not look too rough. I offered him some food and cold beer, which he welcomed. I had lived a total of about 9 years in the US and travelled widely. He seemed to know a lot about Washington and the way the US government worked. We also talked about European travel and he had definitely spent time in Italy and Yugoslavia. He stayed in my camp that night but by the time I woke up next morning he had moved on. I have a really good memory for faces. When I watched this video, I realized I had seen Bishop somewhere and can only match it to the man in Queensland. I am not sure what to do about my sighting,
He was born in ‘36. So, he’d have been 44-45 in ‘80.

Holy shit I think I’m related to this guy. He looks just like my grandpa! He’s got this distinct Bradford look my family has. I’m a direct descendent of William Bradford of the the mayflower, so his name also being William Bradford is really eerie to me. There’s also another serial killer named William Bradford who used the nickname “Billy” and he killed a lot of women in the 70s posing as a photographer. I guess every family has good and bad people in it
