    For me, Kaido was the most loyal member of the rocks pirates and seeing how it all fell apart in God Valley broke him and his view of pirates changed dramatically. That’s why he tells the scabbards that their pirate friends will betray them and abandon/run away once they realize they cannot win.
    Can’t wait for his flashback! Right, Oda? Oda?

    I think Kaido is in Wano waiting to meet Joyboy and receive his grand death. If the prophecy of Joyboy is set to free Wano from a big threat, he may be setting himself up to fullfil that role. That would give meaning to him saying that Luffy couldn't be Joyboy after "defeating" him.

    It'il be interesting to see the difference between Kaido and Luffy's take on forming a crew. We saw that Kaido choses the strongest creatures, mostly another pirates that he broke their spirits. Whereas Luffy choses his crew for other reasons, their hearts, their morals, their personalities. I think that's something we could explore in Wano specially after last chapter's Sanji's quote : "What type of person does the pirate king needs?"

    • @iamnotinvolved1309
      @iamnotinvolved1309 Před 2 lety +24

      We have definitely been exploring that theme of leadership & subordinates explicitly more in Wano. Look at the difference between Oden, Orochi, Kaido and then Luffy's leadership and the subordinates they've pulled in, and Luffy is the one who will win in the end.

      Yeah and just the fact that kaido's rise of constant struggle, hardship, defeat and bouncing back perfectly mirrors luffy's rise. They both have gotten where they are through extreme never-breaking will and they've both amassed a large following of powerful pirates/people, yet luffy's done so through his character and pure hearted friendship whereas kaido's done it by breaking the wills of his followers. That definitely needs to be heavily stressed and honestly I think 5 chapters of backstory are merited

      I think Shanks is probably the son of Rocks tbh. God valley was 38 years ago, Shanks is 39. Also when whitebeard and Shanks met, WB said that Shank’s face reminded him of the scars he got from “that man”. I always thought he was talking about roger but idk, WB goes onto say Rogers name directly so idk why he would’ve called him “that man”. Also shanks really doesn’t look like Roger at all, if anything that comment would make more sense directed at Ace or even Luffy.

    1. The several deaths that Kaido witnessed might be an indicator that the first major death he witnessed, Rocks, died in a shameful way, likely betrayed by whitebeard (as it's theorized already), and that scarred him since. I honestly see him, after Rocks's death, going into a depressive state, almost like Shanks after Roger died, and gaining the resolve to engrave his name in history, seeing how his captain was errased from history
    2. His backstory of defeating everyone is 100% linked to how many times he's been captured and defeated
    3. Yamato might be his attempt to prevent being hit by the prophecy of "the son of a Dragon will rule over wano", but he might feel threatened by Luffy since he's also the son of a Dragon (Monkey D Dragon)
    4. Luffy being JoyBoy and being the one to free Wano and vanquish the force oppressing it might be what he sees as the best avenue towards an honourable death he so much desires
    5. It's theorised that Momonosuke is the Acient Weapon Uranus, so could Kaido maybe have been told about a prophecy of one of the acient weapons eventually coming to exist in Wano, and decided to take control of Wano to make sure he eventually got a holf of that acient weapon?

    What is really enjoyable with your theories is that they don't feel like spoilers, you always maintain some sort of mystery, not going in the details of the actual mysteries of one piece, rather linking some pieces we already have in the story to make some logical guesses that hypes us up. Like even for the "end of one piece" theory, which is the one where you go the most into predicting the actual storyline, you leave a lot of blanks, giving us an idea of how you think things are going to unfold, but leaving the actual mysteries left to be discovered within the story itself.

    Both came close to the truth with their captains and watched them fall but responded in different ways.
    Shanks seems to encourage joyboy and other pirates to seek the truth, along with limiting devil fruits in his crew.

    I think it could be pretty impactful if the marine he defeated was a young sakazuki- one reason is that like you said in a previous video, post time skip seems harder to feel the power of since we barely see their power in contrast to any figure we see pre time skip, and using one of the most feared figures pre timeskip as a benchmark would be fitting for the most powerful creature, without diminishing sakazuki’s appeal too much. And I don’t think borsalino or Kuzan would work as well since kuzan has already played a significant flashback role, and borsalino seems to already lack feats so him taking the L would make it worse.

    My speculation, or rather my wish, is that Kaido's flashback triggers when he is about to be defeated by Luffy. He thinks of his past, his struggles, then thinks to himself, "Am I really about to be beaten by this kid?". After the flashback, he gets back up, ready for another round, and drops Onigashima. As someone "battle-heavy" as you said, I think it would be really cool if this time the enemy got back up instead of Luffy.

    Kaido knows about the skull on Onigashima being the skull of Joyboy. Since Joyboy was an Oni/ancient giant he expects the next Joyboy to be one as well. This could be why he raised Yamato (the Oni princess) as a boy for her to become Joyboy.
    Maybe Kaido himself was raised by Rocks because Rocks thought Kaido might be the next Joyboy. So Kaido gathers Oni around him (Black Maria and others possibly) and even took the ancient giants from Punk Hazard.
    There's also the connection with Gecko Moria (also an Oni?) who thought he will defeat Kaido by taking the body of Oars and Oars Jr. (son and grandson of Joyboy).
    He probably knows that the strawhat is a symbol of Joyboy (both Oars and Oars Jr. had one on their head and the giant one in Maryjois could be the original) and so recognized that Luffy is a potential candidate but rejects it because Luffy is practically the opposite of what he expects Joyboy to be.

  • @deepEleven
    @deepEleven Před 2 lety +13

    Maybe Kaido knows about the importance of Wano because of his Oni heritage. Oni's are deeply connected not just to Kaido, but also to Wano as well.
    There was a theory that Oars was called continent puller because his race pulled a bunch of islands together to form Wano, explaining the weather differences in different regions of Wano. And, now we are seeing Kaido doing a very similar thing with moving Onigashima to meet Wano. Maybe his fruit was previously wielded by the Oni race and then celestial dragons stole it and kept it in God Valley. That's why Big Mom consider giving him his fruit as a big debt.

And he somehow realized that he could never be joy boy (Poseidon didn’t exist yet maybe) , maybe that’s why shanks was crying during the roger flashback as well?? They were both potential joy boys but were too early. So one of them decided to find joy boy and set up for success. While the other one was enraged and wants to kill joy boy, so he stationed where he knew joy boy would have to come (wano) and has been waiting for him there.

    If Kaido knows of the true history, I think it might be that this has something to do with him taking care of Yamato, since Roger wanted a child after learning the true history, if I remember correctly. Thematically it might be a misinterpretation of inherited will, that moved Kaido to take care Yamato and "worship" a great death with Oden as a foil, who did it right and whose will was inherited by the scabbards and Yamato.
    Edit: The other parallel I see is that inherited will and devilfruits work similar in that they pass on their will or power respectively to another one. If there is indeed a parallel between inherited will and devilfruits, then the introduction of artificial devilfruits might hint at someone (Kaido) trying to pass on his will artificially, too, and failing like the fruits.

    The reason why Kaido know some stuff was probably as simple as that he have been to lodstar island - which most old pirate have been and realize that they need to get the full story to get to raftel. The only reason why the strawhat know about the poneglyph is because Neko/Inu tell him upfront about raftel so he didnt need to find out from lodstar Island. If Kaido knew when he was in Rocks crew, why whitebeard seems like doesnt know about the poneglyph when Roger trying to recruit Oden? We know that whitebeard not interested in becoming pirate king, so he probably didnt reach lodstar island. The thing about his speech in marineford, could be the info sharing that roger gave him after rogers come back from Raftel.
