- The new Transformers the Movie reissue Starscream has many elements of the reissue from the collectors’ series number 9, but some changes as well. Captain Kyle compares it to the Generation One version of Starscream (though actually the first Takara G1 reissue of the toy) to see how it is different and if it’s worth getting for your collection.
The new Retro Transformers the Movie Starscream has accessories that must comply with current toy safety standards, but it does come with special fists that allow it to hold the included Megatron in gun mode. But with all the various versions of Starscream that have been reissued, is this one worth getting? Captain Kyle examines it and sees what changes have been made since the G1 version was released to determine if another toy of this character should grace your shelf.

I remember the first 2 Transformers I got when younger. WheelJack and Thundercraker. It was a choice between Starscream and Thundercracker, and I chose Starscream, but the store sold out. Those old school stickers on either side of the head. Memories.
My first one was Soundwave because they were sold out of Optimus prime
It seemed I never saw any Starcreams but a lot of Skywarps.
The rub signs were always the best part
It's a great figure, I too love the new face. I had real trouble fitting the bottom part of the Megatron gun into his fist, I had to use a tiny clamp to squeeze it in there and I could see the plastic actually stretched a tiny bit when it finally clicked in place. I hope they sort that out when they do the retro Thundercracker version.
Yeah, Megatron gun bottom was a pain. I don't recall having that issue with the Takara Starscream "animation" reissue. And yes, it would be nice if Thundercracker didn't have that problem.
Don't know why they just can't give 2 sets of non-firing glued launchers. No one would miss the firing feature.
Looking forward to watching this after work. I like mine but I do wish it at least came with the decal sheet so we could pick and choose what decals we wanted to add.

Im saw this at walmart and was tempted to get it! I spent so much time collecting the Siege-Earthrise Starscream and that i didnt want to fall into another rabbit hole
i remember, in the 90s, getting Starscream and it was all metal, with a removable front landing gear wheel. I remember having late 80s and early 90s transformers that were all metal too. My brother and I buried them in our backyard. We also used magnifying glasses to melt little GI joes and played with Ninja Turtles toys.

I am hoping for an upgrade kit for this Starscream. Mainly the null rays and missiles.
Just picked up the new one at Walmart today. Never had one as a kid. I prefer the original one but happy to have the retro version. Thank you for the comparison!

For the price, the new reissue is well worth it when compared to trying to get some older reissues in the aftermarket.
Certainly the paint apps on the face is the biggest plus. The biggest detraction is the clear mold wear, due to how often this mold has been reissued amoungst all the various seekers. The most clear wear is the entire nose/cockpit area, as the fit and finish clearly is deformed. It has gotten worse with the recent WM Thundercracker release, and since they've announced an upcoming Skywarp version, I'm sure we can expect further degradation.

Walmart's g1 starscream reissue came with megatron as well,an I would always store his hands underneath him when he is in plane mold. you could stick them underneath where his arms are

The new one is my first starscream ever lol and hes great, my only gripe is that some versions of the mold including my own have QC issues other than that he kicks autobot butt!

The plastic on the retro version is the same shade of gray as on Earthrise & Studio Series 86. If you dislike the long missiles but have your SS86 version in the coronation gear, you can just give the reissue the spare guns instead.
I prefer the old toy colors but I'm not willing to spend the small fortune a mint original or even reissue costs. This was $33 & comes with the Megatron pistol so it was worth it to me. It's odd though they don't advertise Megatron anywhere on the packaging.
Not exactly, the ER & 86 Screamer is along the lines of the reissue's shade of gray. Just a tad bit lighter than the original, especially the tail fins.
I have one and a slight problem I have with it is that the chest has gotten really loose after being transformed on and off for a while. Is there a way to tighten the hinge that connects the main body with the cockpit without risking the figure breaking?
It's a big push pin I had to slide it to one side with a pin punch, I actually just used my hand to slide it just do a little at a time & test it. If all else fails use a hammer with the pin punch just be careful

I wonder if the lack of chrome including on the stickers is because of an environmental law for toys or something, there is no chrome on any of these anymore.
Same mold used for the commemorative series. Always hated the long missiles and guns.
I have seen pictures of the new Thunder cracker.he is a light blue with the Megatron pistol too.

The last Starscream reissue at Walmart went on clearance. I may get an extra if this one does.
This figure is great as everything is painted on the Studio Series of Starscream. His colors are much better, and I would recommend this figure!!!!!

Still the best one.
I think the one on the left would look better with the orange cockpit and the head of the one on the right . And with holes in the fist for the Megatron gun . And black thrusters not blue . Also the shorter missles . The longer ones look ridiculous.
The large missiles makes this a no buy.
Man, I don't know if your copy is missing it but in mine there are another couple of missiles that are more "show-accurate"

I actually don't understand the assinine missles if it's a choking concern, explain to me Studio Series Wheelie's slingshot then, it ruins the figure what a shame.
You expect logic? I think it's because the missiles are projectiles that can shoot. Wheelie's slingshot doesn't shoot and Studio Series I believe is aimed at older collector anyways.

Starscream's faction symbol was upside down on the wings in in bot mode in the original run of the show. So the Movie Edition is correct in its placement. When Floro Dery did the box art for Starscream, the cell animation artist were still creating what would be the final versions at the time. It was kind of a cart before the horse thing. So for the box art on the original figure, the factions appear face down which follows the sticker sheet placement unbeknownst to the animators. The show itself went with the upside down symbol. Apparently Starscream was an Autobot scientist working with Jetfire/Skyfire before Megatron started a war. So as the theory goes Starscream intentionally wears them upside down on the wing in some form his own twisted form of disrespect or him being tagged in this way to denote he is a traitor to both sides.
Well, Starscream was a scientist, but he wasn't an Autobot. He didn't have a faction until the war started. He was a Cybertronian scientist, like Skyfire, who also didn't have a faction or a symbol when he was awakened.
So basically the new one is substandard......surprise surprise. Why is everything crappier but more expensive these days?

I swapped out the diecast metal piece with a g2 hot pink metal piece from G2 starscream. I swapped out the legs and a bunch of other piece to create a new G2 starscream with a color pallet of greys, black, purple and hot pink. Looks great. I ordered the repro G1 short bombs and painted those purple.

With the price it goes for , wish hasbro included a display stand. To hold the figure in place and hold the extra missiles. Maybe have starscream printed on the front too.

@@ToySpotlite Well as they’re marketing it under the ‘86 movie I think those are even less likely unless they do releases under other sublines. If this sells well enough, maybe they would. Lord knows they don’t mind creating sublines out of thin air for Bumblebee variations.
I want to hope this being under the movie makes a Thrust just a bit more likely, but probably not.
You can always cut the missile just like the original version to make it short.
But unless you make a new notch, they won't fire.
