This video is from the movie "KISS Meets The Phantom Of The Park". It was a made-for-tv movie in the 70s, and (as I understand it) most of the band wish people would forget it ever existed. Although, personally, I love it. KISS as cosmic super heroes!

Sung by drummer Peter Criss. He had a hand in it, but the primary songwriter is his friend Stan Penridge. The demo was called Beck, producer Bob Ezrin changed it to Beth for the album.
Saw Peter sing this acapella on the first KISS reunion tour in the 90's.

The first song I heard from Kiss in the Early 70's was "Rock and Roll All Night" and I was hooked since then. the band had went through a few band member changes over the years but the original lineup was in my opinion was the best. Gene- the Demon, Paul - the Starchild, Ace - the Spaceman, Peter - the Catman. Alive was my favorite double album.

Hey-ho and greetings from good ol' Germany! 😃
Thank you sooo much for your lovely reaction to this KISS Klassic! 😘
You asked if there was a "Beth" in reality.
    There was ... sort of.
Peter Criss, the original drummer of KISS, who is singing this song (and co-wrote it), had a band before KISS. And one of the members of that band had a wife named Beck, and Beck used to call her husband all the time when the band was rehearsing or touring ("Where are you now, honey? When are you gonna be back home? Does it take long? ...".
    All the time!
And he kinda told her on the phone the things we hear in the lyrics of this song.
Peter Criss took some notes during those phonecalls that he overheard and worked them into these lyrics ("Beck, I hear you callin', but I can't come home right now...").
When Peter Criss presented his song idea to his colleagues in KISS, they suggested to change the name of the girl that is being addressed from "Beck" to "Beth".
In a nutshell (there are more details to it, of course, such as the input that producer Bob Ezrin had), that's the background story of the genesis of this tune.
Thanks for bothering to read! 😇

Oh, people would know what they look like now. Back in early 80's they took off the makeup for about ten years or more and then put it back on in 1996 for their Kiss reunion tour. All four original members back together for the first time in like 15 years or along those lines. The original four were Gene Simmons on bass "The Demon" Paul Stanley on guitar " Star Child" Ace Frehely on lead guitar "Space Ace" and Peter Chris on drums " The Cat Man". That's who's in "this" video you watched.

Back in the 70's concert prices were very cheap. My first ticket to a KISS concert in 1976 was $8 for General Admission, by 79' it had moved up to $22 for a G.A.. KISS was also one of the bands who toured twice a year. I saw them 8 times in the period between 76' & 79', more out of availability than the fact they were also one of my favorites bands back then. I saw Ted Nugent 6 times and The Cars 5 times in that same time frame, for the same reason. To the people I knew growing up, the summer was for music festivals and concerts. Whether we were at a rock concert or bluegrass festival, to us, the 70's was all about the music. Going to concerts is a regular thing in my life, I've been blessed to have seen nearly 200 various artist and performers. This included such legends as Elvis, Led Zeppelin, Willie Nelson, and even Tiny Tim. lol Thank you for the great reaction.

Beth was based on Peter Criss's wife Lydia. I was at a special party in New Orleans and Lydia was there seeing a Kiss tribute band. It felt weird standing five feet away from Lydia, and the drummer from the Kiss tribute band who was imitating her husband singing Beth felt a little strange.

This was their highest charting hit, and my Fav. KISS song, they should have allowed Peter Criss to sing more songs, but Paul and Gene were kind of like Don Henley and Glenn Frey, of the Eagles, the wanted to lord over all the decisions. This song I think was in the movie *I love you Beth Cooper* a little comedy from 15 or so years ago.

This clip is from their one and only movie. KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park. Yes, I watched it. It’s bad but judge for yourself. Apparently they were difficult to work with. One of them was so drunk that they couldn’t get to set so the director grabbed a random person , slapped the makeup on and filmed. The funniest part is that he didn’t care that the guy he grabbed was black. No one cared about the movie anymore and the crew just wanted to hurry up and be done with it. Yes, you can clearly see that a black man is behind the KISS makeup.

Always loved Kiss, but they were and are twenty five percent music, seventy five percent show. Gene was a marketing genius. He knew what was bringing in the money, and it wasn’t album sales. It was the entertainment value. Why do you think they went back to wearing makeup? It wasn’t because they started making great music. They hadn’t released an album in years when they made the decision to put the makeup back on.They knew that’s what drew the ticket sales and at the end of the day, and let them live comfortably in their mansion in LA. Anyone average person would take that deal.

Worst is that a lot of kids today(my grand kids and great grand kids} only know either as history references or elevator music. Peter Criss had the best voice in Kiss. I love the raspiness of his voice. Ace Frehley wasn't that bad either, but he didn't sing that much. I don't think he was very confident in his voice. He preferred getting other people to sing the songs he wrote. Ironically, of the four 1979 solo albums the four members did, his was the only one to have a big hit from it, "New York Groove".
Gene Simmons would be my third favorite singer, not far behind Ace Frehley and Paul Stanley is my least favorite. But that's just my opinion. We all have different tastes.
