PSA: Tea metabolizes differently than coffee does. For my neurodivergent friends, switching from coffee to tea really helped me manage anxiety and regulate my mood swings.

I can definitely agree with this. I like coffee but the caffeine triggers my anxiety and panic attacks. So most of the time I stick to tea. Tea caffeine works better for me

True, but she drinks green tea though... there's hardly any caffeine in it! I would go for an Earl Grey or English Breakfast for a bit more punch (still less than coffee). I'm ADHD and I react horribly to caffeine in tea! Like I get headaches, nausea, and the jitters from strong tea but never from coffee... odd :(

It's true, it contains L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes relaxations. Therefore it counteracts the negative effects of the caffeine so you feel alert but relaxed. I always go for English breakfast tea and find it wakes me up without making me jittery and anxious.

A few years ago I had the wish to have my 18 year old body back. I would have literally sold my soul for this. BUT now that I’m 40+, I rather have a healthy body and most importantly a strong body. When I was 18 I was around 50 kg and always on the edge of an ED because everyone only saw my big behind and not the slim and weak torso.
With all the dieting etc my weight was like a yo-yo on steroids. I went from 50 to 66 kg, then to 98kg, lost 30kg, went to 104 and had an unhealthy relationship with food. For the last few months I started with a meal plan and weighing my ingredients. At first it might sound bad, but I actually didn’t know how much I actually am „allowed“ to eat to be „full“ without feeling bad. I used to limit my portions just to have many snacks in between meals in the end of the day. Now I have my 3 main meals and 2 snacks throughout the day. And, girl, those portions are huge!
Guess what, I started at 104 kg in June and I’m now on 97 kg. I never was this satisfied after a meal as I am now.
And watching your videos gave me so much motivation to stay on track.

@AbbeysKitchen Avocado hack from a fellow Torontonian: Always choose an avocado with the stem still on the top. Break off the stem part. If it’s yellow to green in the hole it will be a perfect green avocado. Never buy ones with the stem thing if it’s missing it means air has gotten in thus turning it brown as it oxidizes ✔️

Eat your burrito first, then eat your fruits on a separate plate after that. :) I'm pretty sure it's a cultural thing because in Europe (I'm from Hungary), we definitely don't do that. Anyway, I love your videos, I love that you try to teach us not to over-stress about food but at the same time, you remind us to be a little more mindful about our food decisions.

North Americans are obsessed with “one pot cooking” and “one plate eating.” It’s so weird to not have courses and to just pick like it’s a buffet at every meal. I body shamed Selena like 10 years ago. I reposted a pic of her to my less than 100 Facebook friends laughing and calling her fat. I feel bad but of course she never saw that specific post. I was incredibly offended that a celebrity could be over weight, as I felt I was personally completely worthless because of my weight. I remember someone calling me out on body shaming. And I responded in a kind of way they I felt it was my right as a ft bullied person to call someone else fat.. which is stupid. But looking back like I said I was offended. Here was this beautiful, successful girl going out in swimwear, enjoying her life regardless of the size of her body. And here i was, personally believing the way I looked would forever hold me back from living a good and happy life.

General compliments like "you looks great!" are much safer. Just my opinion.

Just in case some reading this don't know, visceral fat is fat around the organs, which is much more of a health risk than subcutaneous fat, which is just under the skin.

Don't burn yourself! Steep it at a lower temperature and let it cool down a little first. Also, steeping it at a lower temperature for less time will make it taste better because it will have fewer tannins.
Bouncing the teabag doesn't do anything (though I'm guilty of this, too, sometimes). Looseleaf tea tastes much better and has better quality, but I'm not doing that every day. Some green tea is higher in caffeine than black tea.
If I'm treating myself or working from home, to I'll drink a nice quality green tea that I can steep several times. The difference is more noticeable than you'd think. I've never liked coffee.

As always, fantastic video Abbey! I love the new intro clarifying that you are making the celeb diets your own because we are all so different, I wish this was more commonplace! I must say wish that mouth and chewing noises were minimized more in post, they are so unbearably overwhelming in my earbuds (but this is common for me with videos, when the mouth sounds or gulping are the same volume as words or louder i can’t hang and have to click away immediately😅)

“Drink your caffeine how you like it.” Does this include energy drinks? I’ve heard so many bad things about energy drinks but never from a nutritionist. Sorry if you’ve already addressed this in a different video!

I’m not a dietician but I am studying to be one from what I have learned they are not great for you and can cause stomach issues in some people from the stuff besides just caffeine put in them :)

I think energy drinks cause anxiety issues in a lot of people and could be harmful to the gut microbiome but idk... I used to drink monster ultra zero every day but I had to quit because of the anxiety effects, though I never experienced any of the physical ones. This is definitely a really good question for abbey.

Hey Abby! I love your videos and the HCC helps me so much! But I noticed that you use a looooot of berries (which is amazing because duh berries are the best) but are there other (maybe less expensive fruits) that you can pair you recipes with?

Agreed with everything you said until you mentioned Selena won you over with calm down, love the woman, but the song is by Rema and was already popular before her feature😆😆😆 (sorry I'm anal because I like Nigerian artists being recognised). But yes her diet is really helpful, I'm trying to eat more intuitively, but I feel like my snacking always goes way overboard if I don't restrict how much I snack. I'll have to look into eating healthy snacks that satisfy me just as well

Ok that big tupperware of berries, tell us your secret!!! I'm assuming they're washed already, how long does that last you in the fridge? We go through so many but I haven't figured out how to keep them from going bad so I just end up washing fruit all the time every day. I wish I could have it prepped like that in advance!

Hi Abbey, can you please review Dr. Amy Shaw's books or her video interviews? I'm listening to "I'm so Effing Tired" and a lot of what she is saying is making a lot of sense. Feeling like I need to only eat organic and make major diet changes. I can send you links to interviews she's done if its something you'd consider.

    • @katelijnesommen
      @katelijnesommen Před rokem +4

You do you of course, but just wanted to flag that 'organic' is a label that covers a lot of ground and doesn't automatically mean there are any less herbicides or pesticides or more nutrients in your food. Research hasn't been able to show significant differences between traditionally grown food and most 'organic' food.
