Balthier is Han Solo with his Strahl, the Falcon and his companion sexy chewie named Fran. We got tuskan raiders of the sandsea and more. the Archadian Empire Imperials as the Empire and Imperials themselves with their Darth Vader costumes as Gabranth etc. and Yoda lives in the mountains of Bur-Omisace. Having the easter egg characters biggs and wedge in every final fantasy places the ff planet solar system located somewhere on the edge of non republic enchani territory pressing into the unknown regions of Galaxy M4. This means the new repubic and roug squadron was planetside in every single one even when seperated by 1000s of years apart
When the republic wishes to acquire a new planet for its senate it brings its echo of sith war with it in order to subdue a planetary system into its cause the same way sometimes the sith does it too
I noticed this a few hours into the game. Square Enix said that this was heavily based on Star Wars but the lines between basing something and ripping off are starting to blur here.
the freeware celestia program add-on mod places courscant in a galaxy nearby in one of the galaxies labelled m4 I have yet to memorize the exact designation label and which one it is exactly
I would like to point out a few similarities: 1) Its Rebels vs The Empire 2) The main character is thrust into the predicament after his family is killed (just like lukes) 3) Han solo and Chewbacca are perfect rip offs of Baltheir and Fran. Both have unique ships and are pirates. 4) In both Star Wars and FF12 the Rebels have a hidden fleet that they could never of had enough money to pay for 5) The Empire has a massive beam weapon capable of massive devastation.
6) Sky City Bhujerba was exact rip off of "Cloud City" in Star Wars, Both were promised nuetrality and freedom from the Empire for their "resources" if the best was given to the Empire. And Both were back stabbed, and ended up helping the Rebels escape in the end. 7) The Bounty hunters hunting Baltheir throughout the game are alot like the bounty hunters hunting Han Solo. 8) The empires armor and helmet closely resemble storm troopers armor. Especially the helmet piece.
It's kinda neat that final fantasy got all space age. I think it peaked with VII, there was a cool cyberpunk/steam vibe to that one, and no death stars, or tie fighters. I think they're trying to win over the younger players with lots of flashy lasers and stuff. I really with they'd bring it all back to a bronze age type word with serious dark magic and crazy scary demons. I like the idea of space ships being relics that no one knows how to use anymore.

How did they rip-off Star Wars? On a superficial level, they are similar (even the music at some points) but if you go in-depth and actually play the game, the story has way more depth as well as twists and turns in FFXII than Star Wars ever had.

I was one of the first people on the squaresoft forums to bring up the similarities between the game and Star Wars; which was within the first week of the US release. At the time people said I was reaching hard for the similarities, but now if you google FF12 Star Wars it seems a lot of other people realized this. FF12 is garbage. I can't believe people in comments here still claiming it isn't true. It borrows heavily from Star Wars.
This is still rendered invalid by them not taking Star Wars into consideration whatsoever, hence the similarities being very broad (consider how many FF games have rebels and an evil empire), and is pretty much overshadowed by FF9 being close to a carbon copy of Dragon Ball.
Similar to Star Wars or no, it's a pretty badass game. Last of the truly great FFs, IMO.
So thats why I loved FF12 so much.

The Space Age crap peaked with VIII dude. The Ragnarok airship was an actual space craft.
