#3 will amaze you! Excellent CD video explaining interlacing: • CD / Interlacing Excellent Zenith video explaining video heads: • VCR Video Heads Explai... (ironically not deinterlaced)
I have one of those Hitachi VCRs with 5 video heads. It's a portable VT-8E with linear stereo audio. I believe the drum has 3 single heads and another 2 in dual azimuth configuration. It's a weird setup that's for sure.
Yeah I think the 5-head models had 4 heads, 90deg from each other (2 for SP 180 deg apart, 2 for SLP 180 degree apart) then an additional "trick" head in a dual azimuth configuration. I had an RCA VMT-590 as a kid with 5 heads. The picture with special effects was amazing. I would say it was slightly better than my newer VCR at the time, with 4-Head dual azimuth.
one set of heads is for SP and the other is EP when you took one head out you only know have half of the picture one scans the top picture the other is the bottom picture
Not top and bottom, each field. The camera is synchronizing to the fields funny, which makes it look like top and bottom. In real life with one head missing, it's rapidly flashing between full picture and no picture.

NOT PORN
This is a correct categorization of my video. Thank you.
