    Yes. Beautiful progression. Thank you for sharing… and it’s true that the type of guitar changes my play. I do like the combination of a deep humbucker Guitar like a Les Paul, and then a clean crystal type of guitar like your jazz master. At gigs I usually bring two guitars with that sort of combination… In my case it’s usually, a Heritage 535 and a telecaster. Love your stuff, Paul. Very enjoyable, very entertaining, very helpful.

    had to laugh when you picked up the cup and said how each guitar manifests differently in your head.
    I had just been noticing exactly that.
    Each of them manifests noticeably in your whole body language and expression.
    Many players will play to the expected sound/tone of different guitars, but your entire feel and approach engages each.
    The way you hold it, your head and shoulder movements, and facial expressions.
    You truly FEEL the soul of each guitar, and attune to it. channel its energy ....... it seems like the Les Paul is a long-time lover.... lol, ...... comfy, but such a passionate embrace.
    thanks again Paul.

    So good - as always. It's interesting that you mentioned how the guitar influenced what you played. Jeff Beck once said he stopped playing Les Pauls for that very reason. If I recall correctly, he also said (paraphrasing) that the Strat was more of a fight, but he could play what HE wanted.

    I’ve lost track of the guitars I have owned over my 60 years of playing. They come and go. Always searching for the perfect feel and tone. I have concluded that my search for the perfect guitar has reached a dead end. It was easier finding the perfect woman with whom I spent thirty years before her passing. As for the ten guitars I have left, I give them all equal play and enjoy every minute. And your videos give me the motivation to continue playing in my declining years. You are like free therapy Paul.

I’m about to turn 54 at the end of this month and I swear I’m becoming more appreciative and thoughtful and reflective as I age. Feels like I’m at a sweet spot where I’m very aware of how mortal and temporary we all are and yet I’ve (thankfully) got my health and (hopefully) many great years left in the tank. I’ve not had to experience quite the kind of loss you have experienced… But I sure am touched that my silly wee videos might make you smile. Cheers man 🍻

  • @petergoddard1960
    @petergoddard1960 Před rokem

    What I love is that every guitar you have brings it's own personality out in your playing and thus pulls on your creativity differently. Moreover, I'm constantly astonished by how good an amp that Cornell is. I know you're not hammering it as such. even so, its so dynamic it allows all those tones to breathe beautifully without colouring them. I know pedals are a lot of fun, but I reckon I'd be happy just straight in. If I recall you had some work done on it not so long ago. Was there an issue or did you have it modded in any way?

    • @paulstaffordcook8799
      @paulstaffordcook8799  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Thank you Peter. Yeah, I’m extremely happy with that Cornell. I love the Marshall too, but (to use a metaphor) the Marshall is like the 2 seater sports car you only take out the garage on special occasions 🤣. A while back, the Cornell was making an unpleasant fizzy sound when turned up loud… the amp tech solved it by screwing the reverb tank to the chassis. All good now 😊

    Funny how each guitar takes you in a different direction. I think you need a clip-on hula girl for that Jazz Master.😂
    It just seems to naturally gravitate toward the Hawaiian chords.🏝
    Of course the Gibson is its regular unruly self trying so difficultly to behave.😂
    I can certainly tell that you are much more comfortable with the Gibson, but the Jazz Master is coming around rather quickly as well.
    I completely agree about the attenuator, nothing sounds like a full Marshall 100 stack, except a full Marshall stack. Like every simulation, it is just a synthesized sound trying to be something it isn't.
    Yes they certainly provide a reduced volume option, but it just isn't the same.
    That Cornell does a fine job and it fits your circumstances perfectly.
    You also mentioned the Cornell's attenuator inboard that you never use.
    I think it is far more important to find the sound you like and just make music that makes you happy.
    Being satisfied with where we are as musicians is the real starting point in being truly creative, from there, everything is possible🍻🤙

    Not really sure if this relates to the topic of your video, and for sure I agree that different styles of guitars motivate different styles of playing. But what I still regret - or even not - it‘s just still in my mind:
    I always wanted a good Tele besides my main and only guitar, a Greco Les Paul. Then I was lucky and managed to put together a really wonderful partscaster, MJT body, Kloppmann Pickups,.. top notch level and tone. But then… I never was able to connect to it. Even after >1y it felt strange in my hands, so I sold it to a friend who loved it a lot. I am still thinking of this guitar, but I‘m afraid I‘m the typical one-guitar man 🤷🏻‍♂️
