  • Welcome back to the channel!
    After quite a bit of interest in my back up power system, I decided to put together a few videos of the system and it's upcoming changes.
    This video is just the intro covering how I've currently got everything setup and describing changes that are underway.

    That is an awesome set up. I have a 8750 contractor grade that I put a tri fuel carburetor on it works good. I also have two predator 3500. I end up using those more than the big one just because of the noise factor since I’m in a subdivision, but it would also be nice to add a bigger diesel generator for power outages during the summerright now I just run some window shakers in the bedrooms during the summertime if the power goes

      I too have a selection. I really like my 3500w inverter type units. I got a few of them from a pallet auction. Have a couple of the suit case 2ks and a 8k standard contractor style. The 8k is loud but it works in a pinch. The diesel is also stupid loud but enclosing it recently made a HUGE difference. Not sure if I have a video up on that or not... I think I do but its been a bit.

    The 0 series generators do not have mufflers on them, they made some with acoustic covers but they are less common, I have some 800 series units and they are reasonably quiet. You might benefit from a couple of AP exhaust “Turbo Pack” mufflers, they’re cheap and surprisingly quiet. Or you could use any turbo style muffler. I’d recommend putting a rain cap on wherever you run the exhaust, because I’ve seen critters, both mud wasps and rats, build homes in exhaust pipes and cause problems at the most inconvenient times.

      That's the plan. I'll route the exhaust outside and up with a rain cap.

    I like your setup. I service generators. I was able to buy one of my customers old generator. They bought a new bigger unit from us. Mine is a Cummins 12v with Stanadyne rotary pump. It's a 100kw 3 phase and re-tapped to 240v single phase so only 74kw now. I was able to piece together an ATS (automatic transfer switch). You wouldn't believe how little I paid for this unit. I also did the service and maintenance on the unit for the last 6 years for this customer. It came with a 75 gallon day tank used as a primary fuel tank and a shed housing, I still need to trench and run cable to the house.

      Nice! That's a heck of a unit for stand-by power.

      Eventually when I get my WVO designs centrifuge through you, I would like to run some prime power on WMO. @@NotSoGrandGarage

    this is what I use for backup, we're completely off-grid with solar and wind and forklift batteries, but I have a mep003 for last resort, I also have a mep026c DC 28 volt power generator for charging batteries. I run my mep003 off 80% uses oil 20% diesel, but I also run my m925, m109a2, m1009 all on oil. I also have a mep015 28 volt generator. yes I collect military vehicles and equipment I have several military generators, trailers, trucks, I'm a Marine Corps vet and worked on many of these while I served, and great equipment. also you can use two of those mep003 together to get double output.

      Very nice bud. I run quite a few things off oil blends. Have a bunch of videos on the subject if you haven't seen them yet.
      Sounds like you've got a nice collection!

    Make steam with exhaust heat, 100 or 200 ft coiled copper pipe inside insulated 6" wood stove pipe, will use 4x less fuel, steam clean engine of carbon build up, steam over 200 c temp is dry steam, will light a match at that temp, diesels love hot steam, burn cleaner and run cooler under full load

    Have you had any issues with the distance? I finally broke down and purchased 2 older 3ph disconnects so I can choose my source (mains or off-grid). The older one's I found on ebay have 3 separate blades so you can get a complete disconnect without keeping all the neutrals connected (a whole other issue).

    • @NotSoGrandGarage
      @NotSoGrandGarage  Před rokem

      No issue with distance. I trenched in 2-2-2-4. It's oversized for the unit and run. Works great. As for the disconnect, the generator itself has a 3ph disconnect built in which is nice.
