  • There are some conditions Social Security approves for disability based on the diagnosis alone, not work related limitations. I go over them in this video.

    Doc, appreciate the video content. Are you familiar with the diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia? I have had it since 2005 and am now to the point where no medication is working. Surgery is a crap shoot and the outcomes are not good. I have about 20 months until I can earn a full retirement, but it is getting difficult on some days to even talk due to pain that can be incapacitating at times. Appreciate your insight.

    • @DisabilityExams
      @DisabilityExams  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yes, familiar with trigeminal neuralgia. I looked, and there is no direct reference to it on the Social Security Disability website, so I cannot say. It might be possible to be approved if it interferes enough with your ability to work, especially things like focusing, staying on task, concentrating, and social interaction.

      If I could chime in. I was approved after head and neck cancer, 3 surgeries n radiation. Failed reconstructive surgery and I have parts of my mouth removed.. insurance refused to approve an Obturator , 3 years until I did a go fund me n friends helped. Many .. I had quite a few nerves cut during surgery that Drs wouldn’t tell me about. .. excruciating pain. One was Trigeminal Nerve Disorder. I had cancer surgery’s in 2016 n radiation in 2017. So it took years,, im in Palliative Care and they had said oh you may have it but finally last year , my Neurologist ordered the scan and I have a few nerves cut that gave me the Trigeminal diagnosis. It is excruciating and doesn’t relent. I am 100#s today .. I lost about 35# through surgery but radiation n the long list of new health problems from cancer n such my weight has plummeted. The Trigeminal… if you watched you tube videos, trigger warnings there n now me; it’s relentless and people have not survived .., they have found the pain just destroys their personality , it messes with your mind,, migraines that attract your face .. from deep in your ear to your sinus area , forehead , neck n chin,, the spasms. I’m not a lawyer but I’ve helped a few friends through the filling out of the disability application. I had a long medical background, no I’m not a Dr ,, better I worked in the trenches and I feel that I understood what was needed from the examiners ,, the truth. My friends all go approved on first try. The Trigeminal should be on the list, Even if it’s not , if you’ve been seeing Drs and it’s documented , you have scans , meds and your life has been altered .. then do it . Maybe it falls under nerve diseases.. it’s more a disorder but it’s a documented chronic condition. Trigger warnings: it’s called the condition where people stop living at their own hands. I have been in that state,, they are trying to get approval for a feeding tube for me. If you would like to message me I don’t know how to do that myself but if I can offer support just fyi. Again Im not a lawyer a doctor, just another human that has Trigeminal Nerve Disorder and it’s hellish.. this I do know about. I hope our Yt presenter is ok with my post and leaves it up. I understand if he can’t. Prayers for you no matter . N all that suffer in this world.

    Hi Doctor.
    I have a claim in for SSI (NOT SSDI). Most of my disabilities are conditions I was born with, physical and psychological, with a few being quite degenerative. How does Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome affect eligibility? My hypermobility from EDS is very severe (all my fingers bend ALL the way back to my hand, completely, no resistence), and I have extreme chronic pain in basically every joint. I also have POTS, Brady-Tachy Arrhythmia, beginning of an Aortic Aneurysm, High Functioning Autism, ADHD, Gender Dsyphoria (Im trans and have been on HRT for years), severe documented PTSD, and 6 hospitalizations for Pneumothoraxs in my left lung. I'm only 29, but it seems many of these diagnoses I mentioned compound on each other, making things like extreme chronic fatigue much worse, chronic pain worse and harder to deal with, etc. I rarely get more than 3 hours of sleep a day due to either physical pain in my back/ joints or throughout my body if I was too physical that day, OR... when my body isn't acting up so much, the PTSD or Autism/ Adhd will give me insomnia. It's.... draining. I attempted to work as a teen, but lasted less than 2 months even with a not-too physical job, due to my body just crashing and refusing to function. Standing, sitting, walking, BREATHING... all basic things that I frequently struggle tremendously with. I am very underweight as well. I spent the last 10 years locked up after an awful fight with my abusive father when I was 19 (It was a him-or-me type fight, so you can imagine how awful of an event that was), and I came home 4 months ago. While in prison, I was officially "medically unassigned" from all work and programs due to my medical issues, but I also was not given very much in the way of medical care for all those years. Will Social Security understand this, or will this 10 year gap in specialist care be an issue? I was diagnosed with almost everything I mentioned BEFORE I got locked up, when I was a teen.
    Sorry if this is a bit long. I am really praying you respond, because I am very new to "being an adult" in the world and I am not capable of working any "normal" job and I am worried because I hear Social Security can be very hard to get. I have my physical and psychological doctors' appointments for Social Security in one month. Again, this is for SSI, not SS "D" I. I know you do not speak for them, and this would just be your opinion, but I would really value and appreciate your thoughts. I have not even mentioned my social or mental struggles in this message. I want to know your thoughts on my physical issues, and how all my diagnoses combined TOGETHER might be viewed (physical and mental).
    Thank you so much if you've read this far, and if you spare a moment to answer. And regardless, thank you for these videos.

    • @DisabilityExams
      @DisabilityExams  Před 4 měsíci +5

      SSI and SSDI have the same medical criteria for disability, and I examine patients for both. What is different are the economic issues, not the medical issues. With your multiple physical and psychological conditions, I would go through the work-related abilities Social Security considers important: the ability to see, hear, sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, speak, travel, understand, remember, concentrate, persist, interact socially, and adapt, and list which abilities your conditions impair and how they impair them. That is what counts in terms of approval. Good luck with your exams!

      Quite the list of problems, sounds like a tv show

    • @JadusMoltriel
      @JadusMoltriel Před 2 měsíci

      @@jkohutiak A TV show? This is my life, not a TV show. Most of the diagnoses I listed go hand-in-hand with each other. People who have autism or other neurodivergences seem to be highly likely to also have connective tissue/ hyper mobility disorders like my Elhlers Danlos. And when you have Ehers Danlos, it creates a flood of cardiac and lung and muscular issues. Having any mutation genetically also makes other mutations more likely, so my battle with heart cancer and my two intersex conditions are all mutations.
      I believe 90% of my health issues can be traced to either: my autism, my Elhlers Danlos, or the PTSD effects of a childhood full of abuse.
      You'd be surprised how many people on the spectrum that have nearly identical lists of diagnoses to mine.
      Maybe don't be so quick to judge? I'm blessed to still be ALIVE after everything. Trust me, my health has been a very difficult issue my entire life, but I'm still here, doing my best.

    Hello Dr.Foster could you please answer a few questions about scoliosis? My daughter has severe scoliosis 60deg's S curve with a twist, will be getting a complete spinal fusion, and was denied disability once(under 2nd adjudication now). She misses a lot of school(9th grade) but has maintained a 4.0 GPA. The majority of her assignments are done online regardless if she is in the classroom or at home. Adjustments have been made at school such as one set of books kept at school and another for home, bus stop moved to the front of our house instead of down the street, and much more. I have been asked more questions about behavioral problems or IEP's than the physical limitations and once her grades come up it is as if she's totally fine?? Her whole focus is keeping up school work and frequently says despite the problems from scoliosis one thing it will never do is stop her from pursuing a higher education, the kid has lofty goals I'm positive she'll reach. Have you experienced similar circumstances and what is your opinion on severe scoliosis rarely being approved? Thank you kindly and your videos have helped us understand the tedious application process. Have a wonderful day 😊

    • @DisabilityExams
      @DisabilityExams  Před 5 měsíci +9

      Scoliosis is hard to get approved unless one of the following coniditons is met: 1. there is evidence of it causing nerve problems 2. the scoliosis is impairing the function of the lungs and/or heart 3. the person needs two canes, two crutches, a walker, or a wheelchair. Link to Pediatric Listing of Impairments for problems related to the spine (scroll down to section 101.15): www.ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/101.00-Musculoskeletal-Childhood.htm#101_15

      @@DisabilityExams Thank you very much for responding. We started the process through the recommendation of her general physician but I am realizing it is easier for an adult with arthritis to be approved vs a child in Annie's situation. I will ask at her next appt if her pain is nerve related and I did use a SSID attorney for the appeal. Overall I think it might be a fruitless endeavor unless the surgery/recovery process(at least 1yr and she will have less mobility afterwards)is considered. Again I honestly appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions and thank you for these videos. It is incredibly helpful during a stressful and frustrating process. Have a wonderful day and please give that adorable pup a boop from Annie.

    If someone was diagnosed with distant metastasis of their breast cancer (actually one place being to the spine just as you mentioned) but they continued to work for several months to a year after diagnosis before it became dangerous and impossible to continue, would the fact that they worked for a time hurt their ability to get SSDI approval? FYI doctors are strongly recommending stopping work (and this person can't work and largely sleeps or stays in bed now due to pain and lack of mobility) and the doctors are and willing to fill out whatever paperwork is needed.

      I’ve been applying since 2020 been denied all three times , I have a severe condition called RSD . It’s chronic progressive and I have access to NOTHING which is unfortunately making the condition much worse . I look fine and healthy , all of my tests are normal, RSD doesn’t show on scans unless they are very specific like a bone scan or nerve conduction study .
      Even though my drs have all gone to bat for me … it’s not enough . I’m on a slew of meds , my life is PT or dr appointments , I use mobility devices and am mainly bed bound .
      I can’t function in the winter hardly at all as cold or hot weather amps the issues up . Still being denied .
      My attorney is asking my Dr to fill out functionality forms , the guy has written literal books about my condition and I’m still not qualifying . I would thrive if I had a wheelchair and desperately needed benefits . But I’m locked away in bed slowly dying .
