Disability and Mental Illness

The primary job of physicians performing Social Security consultative examinations is to evaluate physical limitations. However, many patients also have mental conditions they feel are disabling.
I present my approach to mental illness and disability.

I don’t think saying mental illness is over diagnosed is controversial in psychology. There’s huge concerns that we are medicalizing normal human behaviour, specifically depression, anxiety, and some personality disorders are where these concerns crop up. Telling the difference between sadness and depression, especially over one or two visits, is not an easy task.
