There is perennial debate in Pakistan about the role of Military in our society. On one side are the people who believe with strong conviction that Pakistan Army is one of the best in the world. On the other hand there is another group of people who blame the Military for a lot of problems that our country faces. In today's video I review the book of a writer who belong to the latter school of thought. Her name is Ayesha Siddiqa and she is a military analyst in Pakistan. In 2007, she wrote a book titled "Military Inc, Inside Pakistan's Military Economy" which talks at length about the business and economic ventures of military in Pakistan. Alhamdulila Pakistan is the only country about which is famously said “Countries have armies but Pakistan Army has country just for themselves”. It’s not only a state above state, but rather a deep state with absolutely no accountability. It is in their interest to keep Pakistan as Security state and keep the phobia of imminent threat so that the big powerful army can be justified by hook or crook.

Very impressive details facts .. shocked to see these details about army. Army is a complete state within state, you have proved here. We “The public” never visited this area. I will buy that book of Ayesha Siddiqa as you have referred in your show. Army will keep interfering in our political affairs to run the political business as per their designs. Thanks for the facts you came up with.
There are still many businesses that are not included in the list given in this video. But this was a detailed video. Anways, everyone is afraid to openly acknowledge that our Military is out of the line now and few of the military personnel are making profits and even after retirement, they are given huge sum of money and land which is not given to any other Govt officer. Even after retirement, many are offered jobs that are at higher level.
Looking at this trend, I am concerned about Pakistan Future.

Well done Shahrukh - thank you. It’s a must read. It expanded my horizon to another starting from Yahya to Ayub to Zia to Musharraf and the Bhuttos to Mujib ur Rehman to Shareefs to now IK. The political saga our country goes through every 2-3 years now makes so much more sense - Ayesha Siddiqua has done an brilliant job with her research. You missed a very important point that premium Space Agency of Pakistan (SUPARCO) was forcefully taken over by Army during Musharraf's time. It has a budget of more than 20 Million US Dollars per year. But They are failed to even build one space launch vehicle(SLV) so far. Only "Major Generals and above" are allowed to become its administrator and Civilian Scientists are forced to work under Military Officers. That is why Pakistan's performance in Space race is pathetic and no one can question anything. But ISRO (India's space agency) is moving forward with full force as they uphold merit. Our own Army has destroyed our Space program and we cannot even dare to question these Generals.
