    I bought a Momentum 351 used and it came with the Anderson Ultimate hitch. I made a couple panic stops with it while in a corner and it did shift a little. I had a rubber bed mat that I took out to pick up the trailer, but I see that Anderson sells a small rubber mat. With that I cut a hole in my bed mat, put the bed in, installed the bed shaft and hitch. I have yet to tow with it. I was glad to see you did the same with no issues.

      @JouppiOutdoors  Před 10 dny

      Andersen recommends to set the trailer on the hitch and re-torque the bolts to basically compress the bed mat between the hitch and bed floor. Ours hasn’t shifted at all!

    Thanks for the instructional video. I have just a t purchased my first 5th wheel, and the dealer recommended the Anderson hitch. My truck is set up for it. I am anxious to try it out.

    I have been using an Andersen hitch over 4 years and 60,000 plus miles. Had no issues until recently. I found multiple cracks in the welds on hitch. Andersen customer service shipped a replacement base overnight at no cost to me. My recommendation is to inspect all welds on base, looking for hairline cracks as part of your routine. For reference I pull a 41 foot 16,500 lb 5th wheel with a Ford f350 dually. Hitch is connected to the gooseneck ball with truck puck system. I have personally seen an Anderson hitch that folded and broke with a hard stop then acceleration. I am not bad mouthing Andersen but am giving a realistic review after years of using this product. I will continue using their hitch but will keep a close eye on all welds going forward.

      Absolutely need to inspect the hitch, but honestly, everyone should be inspecting their hitch regardless of style or brand. Thanks for sharing your experience and thank you for watching!

    I have used my Andersen Hitch for over 3 years and towed over 25,000 miles. My fifth wheel Toyhauler weighs overs 20,000 pounds. I've had to lock up the brakes on the freeway due to an accident that occurred right in front of us. The Andersen hitch didn't move at all!! I'm a fan for life. At first I was apprehensive but that went away the first time I used it. I'm a fan for life!

      big question I can't find answers to.... how to you get it to lift off cleanly? Mine seems to hang on to the ball too much, tending to lift the truck some.... Not tires off the ground, but I'd like it to release cleaner I think.@@JouppiOutdoors

    • @JouppiOutdoors
      @JouppiOutdoors  Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@chtomlin I haven’t had this issue. I park, chock the trailer, and raise it off the truck…maybe use the E brake on the truck to keep it from rocking back as the trailer comes up?

    Found your video by searching for Anderson Hitch reviews. I have one. While putting it in my truck in anticipation of a drive from Austin to Reno, we found a crack in the weld at the top, extending through the support bars. Had we installed it in the evening and departed
    in the morning, it could have been catastrophic.

    To prevent the hitch from twisting, I cut two 2x8's to size and put them between the hitch and wheel well. Doesn't budge.

    I’ve been researching hitches and Anderson keeps coming up in the top two. I’m more than a bit freaked out after listening to you, though. I’ve been retired for a few years and am looking to buy my first RV. My spouse died several years back. A dear friend is planning on traveling with me. Neither of us had anyone close to us who was handy with any tools growing up so we never learned. A huge wrench or drill? Nope. 70ft lbs of torgue? What? I’m a nurse but majored in Math first and I swear it sounds more complex than my Topology class. Can I RV without anyone on board being “handy”? All RVs have their issues. There are a couple of classes out there on maintaining your rig and I wonder if they’d help. In this RV hunt I’ve gone from B+ to C to trailer to 5th wheel and I’m staying with the latter. A 32’ Brinkley. But if I don’t know right off the bat what to look for on my hitch will I be doomed before I start? Maybe I’ll find some good teachers along the way…. Thanks for your video! It was very helpful.

    Just curious about the need for safety chains....we presently don't utilize any with our Andersen but i have now seen several video's showing the safety chains being utilized. So my question is should safety chains be used with this type of hitch?

    • @JouppiOutdoors
      @JouppiOutdoors  Před 11 měsíci

      There are many different opinions on this. I personally do not use the safety chains as a 5th wheel connection does not require them. However, a traditional gooseneck hitch does…the varying opinions depend on how the Andersen hitch is interpreted. Is it a 5th wheel hitch or a gooseneck…well, it’s neither lol.

    Do you have any issues with chucking, rocking? I have read a number of complaints about that. I currently have a Pullrite Superlite and chucking is absolutely terrible. I do not want to drop another $1k to find out this AUH has the same inherent issue.

    Great video, just what I was looking for. I’m selling my bumper pull for a 5th wheel. Actually, my new 5th wheel looks pretty close to the same as yours, I’m getting the 295RL. I’ve been debating between the B&W and the Andersen. Keep coming back to the Andersen because of how easy it is to take out of the truck bed. I pull with a 2021 Ram 2500 gas engine. A couple of questions.
    1) I’m pretty handy at fixing things, would this be an easy installation for me?
    2) Reviewing the Andersen website I should order stock number 3220. Does that sound right?
    Thanks, and keep the great videos coming.

    • @JouppiOutdoors
      @JouppiOutdoors  Před 2 lety

      I had a trailer shop install the gooseneck hitch but have seen videos of people installing it themselves. It doesn’t look too difficult but the trailer shop did it pretty cheap since I bought the gooseneck hitch from them. The 3220 is correct. Thank you for watching!

      I wouldn't trust it I would stick with the BMW hitches. It's a little bit heavier but you don't have to use chains and I've never seen a failure through one of them.

    We have this hitch. Do you experience any trailer sway? I have used a jaw type previously. With our Anderson I notice sway which is unusual for a fifth wheel. Our camper is 40’ 7”
    13,500 dry. I am on the fence about going back to conventional hitch. Please share your thoughts.

    • @JouppiOutdoors
      @JouppiOutdoors  Před 2 lety +1

      I have not experienced any sway. Your 5th wheel is quite a bit larger than ours though. I agree, typically sway is not associated with a 5th wheel unless there is a lot of weight behind the trailer axles.

    • @josephscheneck1540
      @josephscheneck1540 Před 2 lety +1

      I also have the Andersen and do not experience any trailer sway. In fact, we are quite amazed at how stable our setup is. Do you have enough tongue load on your trailer and/or are you carrying something very heavy in the rear of your fiver? That could contribute to sway.

    • @ScottVanArtsdalen
      @ScottVanArtsdalen Před rokem

      No comment on the hitch but on the sway. As has already been mentioned make sure that the bulk of your trailer cargo is in front of the axles. One of my concerns with the new 5th wheels that have huge aft storage is the temptation to load that storage up. It's behind the wheels and *could possibly* create conditions for sway.

    • @JouppiOutdoors

      The safety chains are optional and use the safety chain bolts that hold the red coupler in place. Different states have different requirements regarding gooseneck hitches and safety chains. Thanks for watching!

    Anderson get's a bad rap on the 2 or 3 hitches that have been damaged during a crash. When the $100k truck and the $150k trailer are totaled do we really think the $1,000 hitch should have survived without damage? SMH
