The Montgomery family, changed lives when they decided to set up a non-profit organisation that helps those in need in their county, from food to clothing to furniture. With the economic crisis putting strain on more families, Salt & Light has grown from small charity to a full-time operation but being solely dependant on donations it is becoming hard to keep up with the rising numbers of people in need.
With their work being their main focus as more and more families are in need of help, their own 105 year-old family home has suffered and falling apart. Ty and the team are here to give this inspiring family a great safe and structurally sound home!

What a beautiful family. Certainly well deserved Extreme Makeover…both the house AND the Salt & Life building. A double blessing! This family makes me feel like a slug. But my intention is to change that & get out of my house more to volunteer!!!

This is one awesome family
Champaign County, IL, is the location of a major, internationally known university (U of I) that should have been generating a healthy income for local government. I hope county officials are doing a better job feeding and clothing the poor in 2024 than they were doing when this episode aired, but I doubt it 😢.

The truth as to what made these homes affordable for these families has been sitting in plain clear sight all along.
If you take a look at the episode for the Wofford family from Season 2, there's a segment midway into construction when they're building the second floor. Paul DiMeo is hosting the segment where he clearly states "these walls are pre built off site". This is the answer.
The homes they completely rebuilt were built using hybrid combinations of Prefab and Panelized wall construction. Generally speaking, these methods use building materials much more efficiently than traditional construction, thus the unit costs are up to 60% lower. In the show's case, although there was an increase in property values, these construction methods significantly curtailed that increase. These methods also produce homes that are far more energy efficient so that curtailed increases in utilities.

But as with all these magnificent huge homes, how many of them have lost their houses that were built for them due to taxes that they couldn't afford to pay every year, and in this families case, how are they going to afford all the electric bills for the freezers and their house bills as well

for someone to not have any money to repair their house and could fall down and hurt their children but surely have money to have beautiful white teeth which costs so much.Your priorities are wrong or this is a fake show !!!!!!!!!!!!
Please don’t judge, it’s easy to properly take care of the teeth that God has provided us with to last a lifetime, doesn’t mean because they’re white they’re bought. You must be struggling with mouth issues of your own and I I’ll pray for you. Look at the bigger picture in this, this family is selfless and helps those less fortunate be able to have a sense of dignity. We should all be like them.
