An interior designer shouldnt be about putting THEIR taste into someone's house. It's about being sympathetic to the build, light, space and those living within the home. Class over fad anyday!
@maximillion8442 , I think a designer can both do both. They can make a statement that would be within the purpose of the show without insulting the homeowners and their family needs.
What's the woody designers obsession with Islamic stuff? Yes the family are Islamic but it doesn't mean they want their whole house to scream it. I'm a vegetarian but doesn't mean I want my entire living room made of vegetables..
Yeah I think stuff like that should be left to the family themselves. The religion aspect should be thought of to avoid things that they might not want (for example no Buddha statues or animal pictures in the direction ppl pray in). I think they didn't think that much about making ppl feel comfortable and safe in their homes and that's a pity. But I also think the designers should be allowed to talk to the family.
Yep - I solve the problem by zooming to the end - I don't have the patience for the angst between the "designers" and the side comments of the tradies.
I feel like the host of this show tries to pick designers who have a bold style and then she goes 'oh dear,' and makes puns about how the designers are bad even if the choices they've made are good.
I honestly think it was a shame they didn’t use that painting she(Pandora) showed Emily EVEN when she offered to put it in a black/ grey frame to fit Emily’s style. I honestly thought that would be a great compromise and the family would love it Edit: I wrote that reply mid episode and I’m happy they put it up at the end AND IM SO GLAD TO SEE THE FAMILY BEING OVERJOYED ABOUT IT. That really just warmed my heart
I agree, it makes me so angry here in England when people are racist and anti-islamic because this shows they are just a normal family like any other. Cheers to them.
Pandora is so typical of those right on mother earth types, she kept banging on about Islam, like the bossy one said it was more about her than the home owners. Also she didnt even consider the fact that there are 2 small children and 2 elderly people living in the house. The Ahmeds are a lovely family.
The funny thing is she didn't know anything about Islam.. The painting was one arabic letter which has no value in islam 😂😂 like if i have a painting contains letter G and that represents western culture 😂😂
Omar Gadal Good point. The painting is an abstract idea, for a museum. Now, a lovely piece of traditional calligraphy of an Islamic prayer framed beautifully would have been a better choice.
The Arabic letter does have some islamic meaning as she mentioned, its the start of a chapter of the Quran. But it's very abstract, unless she explains that , its just a letter for most people
The first thing I noticed was the very CLEAN kitchen of the Ahmed family (which was then destroyed within hours...) I was really worried about how these artistic girls would manage to think about the practicality of cleaning surfaces. I was so happy that the family liked the end result. Pandora`s painting is amazing and she is the one who added meaning and love to the family`s home :)
A GOOD DESIGNER is someone who GETS OUT OF THE WAY. If you want to EXPRESS YOURSELF, become an Artist and create installations. If you're a designer, PUT YOUR EGO AWAY and LISTEN to the people you're designing for.
the dark blue living room can be easily shifted to a pleasant, spacious place by keeping the fireplace wall in the same shade but shifting the colour of all other walls to a much lighter shade of blue. A shade that can go with the furniture and the other wall with the fireplace. Problem solved :)
The tree girl is too obsessed. In my opinion all the rooms in a house should somewhat match. These designers need to do a better job at working together
I'm in Canada and this is my first time seeing this show, I really like it!! and what nice families! The Ahmed family seem so genuine and kind. and Lilly is adorable. Thank you for the upload.
Mrs. Ahmed is so pretty, lovely and real...a breath of fresh air amongst the fake hair and makeup one sees so much of these days. Indeed, the whole Ahmed family seems sweet and kind. You are a lucky man, Mr. Ahmed!
I honestly felt sick to my stomach watching this show. The pretentious host and wanna be designers had no regard or respect for the home owners. They came in simply to impose their "off planet" or "mother earth" ideas, not to mention a brothel room for Grandma Lilly - and to hell with what anyone else thought. This poor family with small kids. No consideration for them whatsoever. Ugh. A Madam - A Space Cadet - and A F'in Hippie. Cannot bear to watch another episode of this show - ever.
Emily said it herself in her camcorder introduction. This is what I want to do. I'm doing it this way whether you like it or not! This is not how to be a good interior designer. You design what the customer wants, not you!
these eccentric designers are obviously selected for tv drama effect. No designer or wanna-be designer can be so self-obsessed. they have no business in being in interior design.
The thing about this show is it is high risk to let the designer design but if they nail it it's a free make over. This was great episode. Apart from the dining room
Nigel, Tracy and Lily were quite sweet. I love that Nigel and Tracy got teary eyed when the saw Lily's room. I think that changing 3 of the walls in the sitting room to a light grey or light blue would make it much better. Pandora's living room was rather dull and boring. I love wood, but that was just stupid. The kitchen was amazing and I really hate the industrial look. I really like that. I was very surprised.
OK. Wallpaper above the stove? Good luck getting the stains off. Dining room:replace the heavy chairs and the wood from the walls replacing them with nice paintings and it will be fine.
'So how would you describe your sty..' 'DARKKK' 'You know some people may want a little brightness to...' 'BLACKK' 'Ok just get on with it I don't get paid enough for this'
She’s got a gorgeous figure, for sure, but dressing like a hooker doesn’t do anyone any favors. Would you trust someone dressed like that to decorate your home? I wouldn’t - even as a presenter she’s kinda suspect.
I’m not going to apologize, but she looks like an adult film actress or a brothel madame! She REALLY needs to rethink an outfit that shows all your underwear lines! The fake tan, hair and over the top makeup need all toning down. She doesn’t need it, she would look lovely in more classic, age appropriate outfits! Some elocution lessons wouldn’t go astray! And may even help her win over a few extra clients!
I wish that our house’s ceilings were higher - I’d love to be able to hang a beautiful hardwood branch from the ceiling in our living room. But just ONE branch. Pandora seems not to have thought about the needs of the children and the elders. That dining room belongs in a museum or a childless couple’s city “pad.”
Those were my thoughts, too. I love the rough woody style combines with the Moroccan touch, but it just wasn't suitable for the kids and the grandparents.
I think Pandora (the wood lady) could have done a lot better if she had incorporated examples of South Asian woodwork (which is gorgeous!) in the dining room instead of going in the Moroccan direction. I would have liked keeping the walls and floor tiles simple with a small amount of Chinioti wooden furniture & wall decorations (which are quite detailed) to give it some style. I wanted a mirror with a wooden frame to make the room look bigger and a very small yet vibrant Persian rug in front of the door (and at a distance from the dining table lest food fall on it). (Chiniot is a Pakistani city famous for its traditional furniture and Persian rugs are normal parts of many Pakistani homes). Although it's nice when someone's trying to be reasonably inclusive of another's culture, I didn't like the way Pandora was doing it (I'm Pakistani myself). I don't know if the dining room is authentically Moroccan but it's still cringey that Pandora thought that a Pakistani-British family would "spiritually" or culturally relate to a style from one corner of the Muslim world (i.e. Morocco) even though they originate from the opposite corner of the Muslim world (i.e. Pakistan). And it's entirely possible that such a family would want a completely Western-style dining room than the Pakistani-type one I suggested above. Pandora's dining room looks more like a tiny village mosque's unfinished prayer hall than a place to dine. I am also surprised that the family liked the painting with the Arabic letter 'saad.' It looks like a page out of the book you give children to teach then the ABCs of Arabic. And indeed, without the maddah (an Arabic diacritic mark), it's just a letter of the Arabic alphabet, not the first letter of the Quranic chapter 'Saad.' Nonetheless, I am happy that both families like most of the modifications made to their homes and that their homes are much more impressive now.
I love the morroccan designed wall in the living room but the other parts failed , she should out her mark in a room but adapt it into the family space to suit them! So glad that she insisted on the Arabic letter it gave warmth and character to that grey room, Imo their design was overall lovely. In the other house I loved the wallpaper and kitchen but not the bedroom and lounge but at least the family did
First time I am watching this...just wondering why the designers didn't work with what the families wanted? I hate what Pandora did to that room AND the furniture, i think the original table was much better and what's up with all the wood? Pandora did what SHE liked and did not think about what the family would find nice and comfy...I would NOT hire her to do ANYTHING in my house! As for the bedroom....well.....she could have done more with the walls...the wall paper was not a hit with me but at least Lily liked it
I think Mrs Ahmed is a blessing to every husband, not many would care about the in-laws choice let alone share the house with, the son & daughter in law are blessing to the old couple. What a lovely family.
A good frame (on a picture) is ONE YOU DON'T NOTICE. It makes the picture LOOK GOOD but you are NOT staring at the frame. Good design doesn't scream "LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME!!!!!!" ... it simply makes you want to BE IN THAT SPACE.
People don't realize that it's MUCH HARDER THAN THEY THINK. It's not just a good idea in terms of design (which I don't think was achieved either). But, it MUST be function over form. People think they get to design for themselves--but that's not what it's about. You have to juggle your own creativity with this "PROFESSIONAL/COMMERCIAL" PROCESS. And that's not a dirty awful thing, it doesn't compromise the vision, it makes it sharper. To bring beauty to the quotidian experience is a great gift...
They are repeating this programme on BBC2 this week. It's on iplayer. I wondered why episode 2 was missing. Now I know why. Do not let any of those people near your house.
I REALLY LIKE the wallpaper = it looks like my g'mas house in the 1960 , only brighter ... I would have chosen different chairs & I would have brought some colors to soften the dark paper .. but, I really like it ... I am so glad to see the ending too ~ ty
I find it poetic that the woman who dresses light colors prefers dark designs whereas the woman who wears dark colors likes bright and sparkly design 😂
All actually really nice. I really love that black wall paper. The host isn't very good at judging. The wooden dining room could have worked if it wasn't closed in and chairs were lighter.
Interior designers should not design a place on how they want it, they did wanted to what they want and like. They have not considered that other people are maybe not completely into their style and have to find a midway which is not too hard to transform in a different direction if they are not happy with it.
I hope they kept the Ahmed’s dining table and chairs to replace that wooden set ( maybe that would go ok out the bad garden ?) I think with their original black and glass set it would be much nicer to look at and more practical
i liked the dining room, dont know what all the fuss was about, heavy chairs i think was the only issue, the lounge was very modern but the colours were too cold for a family atmosphere, if all the cabinetry had been left natural blond wood as pandora had thought of it might have been nicer, kitchen was faultless, even if not to their exact tastes atleast they got magazine style interiors that they could never have gone for if they had not taken this offer or participated in the show, so happy for the lovely family
vanillaorange1 lovely dining room I totally agree. I mean do they just want something boring? It was so innovative and beautiful. Perhaps it was against brief which really wouldn’t be ok though....I didn’t watch the briefing part of the show
I do feel that they purposely pick the wrong designers for the wrong families - that some of the other designers in this show would have done well in this house and these designers would have done well in a different house ... probably for ratings and extra drama i guess
The Ahmed family looks very lovely, kind and soft spoken. I was wondering how they feel about their rooms with wooden table and chairs after living there for sometimes. Did they adjust to it or they change the whole furniture?
Please do more i think it is VERY uneic and some of those comments were afesive and the families were very kind and caring and nice and don't say that she's 7 feet tall because that is how tall she is
I don't know that I would trust that presenter. She seems too keen on her own appearance (tight dresses, stupid shoes etc.) and is also very keen on self-promoting as a 'professional' designer.
I'm five minutes in, and this is the first episode I've watched, and I've got to say the hostess of the show is just a weeeee bit .....overdressed (?!?!) ..... I mean.... she looks like she is channeling Madam Yes from The Flintstones. Uncomfortably-so. Mockingly-so.
I have only watched the beginning so far, and I actually like the Ahmed family's minimalist-retro style. Just a bit of 'softening' is all it needs, so it will look slightly more cozy. It's nice and clean/uncluttered, but I'll bet the designers just ruin it.
An interior designer shouldnt be about putting THEIR taste into someone's house. It's about being sympathetic to the build, light, space and those living within the home. Class over fad anyday!
I liked the kitchen. The only thing I liked.
Amateur designers will be designing to their taste, hence this show with its drama and entertainment value
Ik. I’d never go on this show lmao. Especially with the drastically different styles in each room.
Agreed, but I think you misunderstand the point of the show
@maximillion8442 , I think a designer can both do both. They can make a statement that would be within the purpose of the show without insulting the homeowners and their family needs.

I think they didn't think that much about making ppl feel comfortable and safe in their homes and that's a pity. But I also think the designers should be allowed to talk to the family.

Asparagus lamps, eggplant tables, cucumber couches. Why not?

So, do the designers just ignore the family's brief? If so then what the hell's the point of having a meeting with them before they get started?
because its a TV show maybe?
So much ego!
I love how Pandora kept their religion in mind, very thoughtful of her.
I honestly think it was a shame they didn’t use that painting she(Pandora) showed Emily EVEN when she offered to put it in a black/ grey frame to fit Emily’s style. I honestly thought that would be a great compromise and the family would love it

"I love wood because it's living and breathing...," yet she has a bunch of dead pieces of wood all around her. Goofy.
Exactly what I said Lol
That can be a fire hazard.
she means that organic materials continue to warp and mature whereas steel/concrete/glass/etc dont

YOUR LOVELY PEOPLE!
I agree, it makes me so angry here in England when people are racist and anti-islamic because this shows they are just a normal family like any other. Cheers to them.

The Arabic letter does have some islamic meaning as she mentioned, its the start of a chapter of the Quran.

No they didn't one of the previous victims and designer are on here talking about the show.
They definitely should because it looked better before. Pandora is a daft cow, basically destroyed a good room
GARISH!!!
Celia looks amazing for 60!
She was actually 48 when this was filmed
Anyone else feels the wall with shelves in Ahmed's house doesn't really go together?
I really hope they give them the funds to redecorate once the show is done. Coz some of the other episodes are just cringe.
Please do more i think it is VERY uneic and some of those comments were afesive and the families were very kind and caring and nice and don't say that she's 7 feet tall because that is how tall she is
She’s only 7ft tall because of her tacky shoes.
I don't know that I would trust that presenter. She seems too keen on her own appearance (tight dresses, stupid shoes etc.) and is also very keen on self-promoting as a 'professional' designer.
The Ahmed’s family are lovely
I'm five minutes in, and this is the first episode I've watched, and I've got to say the hostess of the show is just a weeeee bit .....overdressed (?!?!) ..... I mean.... she looks like she is channeling Madam Yes from The Flintstones. Uncomfortably-so. Mockingly-so.
Love ladder shelves i have some but no as big
Mothwinged turd 🤣. I'm sorry. Had to get that out😂
I have only watched the beginning so far, and I actually like the Ahmed family's minimalist-retro style. Just a bit of 'softening' is all it needs, so it will look slightly more cozy. It's nice and clean/uncluttered, but I'll bet the designers just ruin it.
